It’s been less than a month since Houston rapper Fly Young Red debuted his explicit club anthem “Throw That Boy Pussy,” but he’s already elevated himself to diva status after enjoying some buzz across the gay media circuit.
Red was in New York City on his first promo tour this week, where he sat down for an interview with BET and performed at least three times at events across the city. Last night, Red took the stage at weekly scenester soiree Westgay and was allegedly cut off once he got on the mic to complain about his lack of VIP treatment.
According to his Instagram post this morning, Red feels “discriminated” against because gay club promoter Frankie Sharp did not provide him a private area “to chill” where clubgoers would not “bump into me” him and “make me spill my drink.”
Nicki Minaj would not stand for this, either:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Like I tried to say last night on the Mic before the promoter told the DJ to turn on the music on to shut me up. If an artist coming perform at your club, there should be an area for me to chill in the club with out people I don’t know bumping into me and making me spill my drink. I asked for a section which means a section for me and my guest. I can’t even get enough respect from a Gay promoter to treat me like he would do any other artist with a section off area where I can chill and get my mind right to have a good show. But if i was a straight artist with a little bit of notoriety the red carpet would be rolled out for me. Discrimination against ourselves!!!! Im really breaking new ground with this venture. BUT LIKE NICKI MINAJ SAID IF U LET THEM FEED U PICKLE JUICE THAT’S WHAT UR GONNA BE DRINKING!!!!! So i went off!!! Lol!! It was well deserved!!! He was pissed and made me perform first!! LMAO Oh well!!! The crowd was awesome!! I love my fans and supporters!!!
Haters aside, it seemed everyone had a great time once Red started performing. As expected, the “Boy Pussy” lyrics inspired one excitable fan to get on stage and throw his boy pussy to the audience’s delight.
UPDATE: Westgay promoter Frankie Sharp has written in to Queerty to offer his account of what happened at the event:
He [Fly Young Red] was an ungrateful artist with a severe attitude problem. In my almost three years of doing Westgay, with having acts like the Scissor Sisters, Lil Kim, Khia, Zebra Katz, Natalia Kills, acts that are 10,000,000 times as big and relevant as Fly Young Red, I’ve never had anyone act up the way he did. He was aggressive and violent and if it was up to me, I wanted to kick him out with no performance. Unfortunately we had already paid him.

Never heard of this person. Something has to be wrong with our culture when something called “throw that boy pussy” is an anthem to be debuted. Our art says something about who we are, and what this says is that we’re a bunch of crass and thoughtless boobs.
When I want an effluvium of pure and unadulterated filth, I’ll watch the Aristocrats. At least that’s funny.

Hmmmm. Dunno. No, hell I’ll give him a pass tcause it takes balls of steel to do what he’s doing in current rap culture (have you seen the hatred on his youtube?); trust an an overinflated ego will not only serve him well…it’s fucking essential!
Is that Frank Ocean throwing da boy puss???!!! LOL
Spike
I’ve heard of Niki Minaj, never heard of Boy Pussy.
Curious how a gay rapper, in a gay club, not being provided his VIP requirement falls under ‘discrimination’. Sounds more like a contract violation. Or is he suggesting that a str8t performer would not be denied such contract requirements whereas because he is gay, black, male, he was being discriminated against?
jcortez
I really hate that word. Ugh.
redcarpet
I’m sorry but this guy hasn’t paid enough dues to be throwing around this kind of attitude. He’s had 1 song get kinda popular on the gay part of the internet.
He might have been annoyed, but a true performer knows the show must go on.

@redcarpet: I think having to deal with the constant death threats and threats of kust regular violence (never seen it this bad) merits an upgrade
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
^*just
Spike
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: Constant death threats = Chill area where he and a guest can hang and not have people bump into them and spill their drinks ???
Doesn’t sound like he is too concerned over death threats, spilling his drink, most definitely yes.
mawbinatl
I can understand his stance, but to call out the club on the stage is childish. He should have discussed it with the promoter and possibly the manager.
A place for him and his people? Seriously? He has an entourage already? Or was he just trying to ‘flex’ for his friends?
He’s still learning, I suppose, but to scream discrimination is ludicrous.

@Spike: You have never heard of Nicki Minaj? Yeah ok sure whatever you say.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
@Spike: No, lol I’m not suggesting this is about him being in mortal danger by schlepping among the plebs….anyway clearly lil dude is fucking fearless. Just meant that seeing as he’s having to deal with much worse shit than those other pampered artistes will ever encounter, therefore he deserves some extra special velvet rope love.
Spike
@DerekR: Actually, if you were to have read my post you would have seen where I stated . . .
“I’ve heard of Niki Minaj, never heard of Boy Pussy.”
You get that? I’ve heard of Niki Minaj, as in I have heard of her, aware of her music, her look, blah blah blah . . . so whatever you say as it involves my never having heard of her, whatever.
