First Brandon McInerney’s lawyers tried to get Judge Charles Campbell, in Ventura County, California, to recuse himself over some sort of perceived bias. Campbell said “uh uh.” Now they’re trying to secure a change in venue, saying there’s no way McInerney (pictured), accused of shooting to death his 15-year-old gay classmate Lawrence King in January 2008, can get a fair trial because of all the publicity. I would argue he can’t get a fair trial because no matter what, God has other plans for him.

@Phil: Every American is entitled to a fair trial. That is one of the beliefs this country was founded on. You don’t get to ask for the same rights as others and then chose to deny others of their rights. Even thinking things like that is insane. This person deserves a fair trial, and I do agree with a change of venue; however, I’m not sure you can really change the venue of a case that has gotten national attention. In the end, the person deserves a fair trial free of bias.

An eye for an eye solves what, exactly? McInerney isn’t eligible for the death penalty since he’s under 18, and life w/o parole won’t bring back King. I’m not suggesting we let him go with a hug and a box of candy (hey, someone is dead, and while I don’t like kids getting LWOP, I certainly see this as a dramatically different scenario than what happened to the good pastor in GA), these ignorant comments about children in the judicial system scare me.

I’d say if he gets tried, convicted and executed that will be justice enough in my book. While it won’t bring Lawrence King back, it will be the next best thing. We need to send the message that hate crimes will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Society rightly proscribes murder (which is different from merely “killing” because it describes the intent of the perpetrator) because it violates an innocent person’s right to life. Brandon McInernazi not only did just that to Lawrence King but did it because of an immutable characteristic that made him superior to his perpetrator. That any gay person or supposedly pro-gay person would plead for his life scares me. But then again, I have seen defenses of both Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein on this very site.
In the marketplace of ideas, not all ideas are of equal validity. The idea that gay people should be killed for being gay an invalid one. The idea that people of western and central European origin are superior to any other race or ethnicity is fatuous and easily discredited. The law needs to reflect that while you may be “free” to hold these ideas (i.e. the government cannot prosecute you for them), if you act on them in this fashion, you need to be punished as severely as possible. If that includes the death penalty, then forgive me if I shed no tears for dead hate criminals.

Brandon McInerney left his home with a gun. He proceed to school where he shot Lawrence King point blank in the head two times in front of many other students. This was a 100% deliberate premeditated act. He is 100% guilty with no uncertainy. His lawyers are unfortunately muddying the waters as much as possible to make the case ripe for years of appeals. They need only get one juror that hates Gays to vote not to convict. The only sliver of good to come out of this is that Lawrence King’s family donated his organs.
We need to realize that some persons simply are wired wrong from birth. People who commit such brazen horrific acts are incapable of changing. Like the recent case of a few students who decided to kill for fun another student. In broad daylight they attacked a kid going to school. They beat him again and again with 2′ x 4’s in front of other students on video. I may hate every single fiber of their being ofsome of the rightwing lunatics who cast vicious hate against the Gays. Yet I could never pick up a 2′ x4′ and beat them until they are dead. Society has deemed a rabid dog should be permantly removed from society. If a person serves notice upon society that they are unfit to live among normal persons they need to be permantly removed from it……..
Feeling for both victims
Some of Brandon’s teachers said he was a victim of bullying too by Lawrence King. He was pushed to the limit and King embarrassed McInerney by asking him to be his valentine in front of all his friends. I feel for both sides. They both had very troubled paths. Brandon should have just punched him instead of using a gun. I dont really know how to explain it but I still feel for Brandon too and believe he needs counseling and doesnt need life in prison. Just a long sentence.

I will always be a jew AND gay but reject judaic rules and teachings, the way you phrase it, it would be like how can you be Swedish and gay or Brazilian and gay.
