Monsignor Dadeus Grings, the archbishop of the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, told a Brazilian bishops’ annual conference he believed paedophilia was on its way to becoming as accepted as homosexuality in society at large. “Society today is paedophile, that is the problem. So people easily fall into it. The fact it is being denounced is a positive sign,” he told the gathering on Tuesday, according to the O Globo newspaper.
Archbishop Grings, a 73-year-old priest with conservative views, said the gradual acceptance of homosexuality by the public was a precursor to a possible broad acceptance of paedophilia. “When sexuality is banalised it is clear that that can have an effect on all cases. Homosexuality is one case. Before, no one spoke of the homosexual. He was discriminated against,” he said. “When we start to say that they [homosexuals] have rights, rights to publicly demonstrate, in a short time paedophilia will also have rights.”

Why does he not accept there is no proven scientific link between paedophillia and homosexuality. This reminds of the time when the Catholic church hated on Gallileo when he proved that the Earth revolves around the Sun not the other way around (as a text in the Bible suggests), they were very ignorant and it took them centuries before they apologized for their ignorance and now it’ll probably take centuries for the Catholic church to admit the distinction between homosexuality and paedophillia.

In 1929 when the Vatican became a city state from the Lateran Treaty with Italy, it carried over the same civil law that was on the books in Italy at the time. At the time, the Italian Codic Penal had an age of consent of 12 years. It is an arcane law and is irrelevant to Vatican City. There are only 824 citizens in Vatican City. None of them are children. They are prelates and guards.Children have never been citizens of Vatican City. The arcane law of consent doesn’t apply to anyone because there are no children who are citizens.”
It isn’t surprising that the Vatican has not gotten around to updating the law – after all, it took about 400 years for them to deign to reopen Galileo’s case.

Liar – in No 11 I simply gave you a statement of the facts – how they ended up with an age of 12 due to the year in which the Lateran treaty was signed. I then suggested that they don’t get anything done very quickly, which is true, using the 400 years it took them to admit their mistake regarding Galileo as an example.
