Actually, WWH, I'm not surprised. I know people who've clerked at the Supreme Court over the years, and Rehnquist and Scalia are quite popular to clerk for, mostly because they were/are funny, personable, and smart — despite their loathesome politics (and resultant judicial droppings). AC fits that mold nicely, I suspect.
I've met Ann on two occasions. (Ok, three, but we just jock-nodded each other on that one.)
