U.S. District Judge David Bunning just ordered that Rowan County clerk Kim Davis be released from jail, reports The New Civil Rights Movement. On Thursday, Bunning placed Davis in contempt of court, ordering her to stay in jail until she agreed to do her job and give marriage licenses to same-sex couples or leave her position.
So far, Davis has done neither. Bunning has insisted that Davis stop interfering with the distribution of marriage licenses:

Let’s see how long it takes her to once again become the “Rosa Parks” of the batshit crazy Christian right. She’s a Democrat? Great… Beshear’s a Democrat as well, and fought gay marriage in Kentucky. Democrats in Kentucky are stupid, apparently.
Just thought I’d add that because BJ McFrisky seems to think finding a rare example of a bible thumping Democrat in a red state erases the shining example the conservative nutballs have made of their party and denying rights to anything not white, male, and Christian.

T Scott Kohnhorst
She was free to go at ANY time. All she had to do was agree not to interfere with marriage licenses given out by the other clerks.
Vegas Tearoom
How much rope are they going to give this woman?
Greg Harris
Now release her from her job!
Cory M. Warren
If she refuse to comply yet again, next time, they will just wait for the legislature to impeach her, or her term to be up.
Deb Kerak
SHE IS STONE UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shle896
Yeah, that’ll teach her!
Ian Reeve
Why am I the only person in this country to question This woman as a product and also perpetrator of Nepotism and Cronyism? her mom held the office, now SHE holds the office AND her son works at the office WITH her. in virtually all government offices nationwide that is a conflict of interest and there are laws preventing it. why not in KY????!???
Octavio Roca
Call the Kentucky Court Clerk’s Office to begin impeachment proceedings–otherwise the bigot will be back there tomorrow. They do answer the phone: 606-784-5212. Call them.
Jamie Weldrick
She is a whore
erich40
Not enough time! If they let her out, just ask her. “ARE YOU GOING TO DO YOUR JOB!” If not, BAM back in the slammer. It is going to be interesting to see how the people on her staff are going to follow through. If they don’t, take them away and lock them up with her.
Glücklich
Will the authorities be monitoring her activities? I mean, BLM usually tags buffalo when they’re released back into the wild, right?
Dan Hawley
Who cares.
darian
She’ll be back in jail before the end of the week.
Bob LaBlah
Does anyone know if her son, who is a deputy in that office and didnt get the position until she was hired, is still on the job?
Cagnazzo82
There needs to be a massive fine if this four-time married hypocritical pick-and-choose ‘christian’ goes back to work and once again refuses to do her job.
Enough is enough with this woman’s circus.
Bob LaBlah
@Ian Reeve: I thought every one knew that God fearing, white christian Kentucky, does not see things they way the rest of the world does.
Perfect example: Let’s not forget that to this day, Ron Paul has NOT conceded he lost the bid for the republican nomination back in 2012. That’s a long time not to notice no one wanted his ass for president.
Josh447
Letting her out of jail while she watches others do her job is total BS. She had years knowing gay marriage was coming and could have quit upon legalization. She is a complete negative example to the justice system. She is still not doing her job and should have zero accommodations and should be re-jailed, stat. No one can use fairy gods in the legal system.
Something is not being said here in this situation. We need to know why the judge really let her out of jail.
GG
I had questions when Judge Bunning allowed Davis’ son to remain in the county clerk’s office without requiring him to follow the law. Bunnings reasoning was along the lines of (paraphrasing), “As long as there are other clerks there who will do it . . .” That seems to be what’s behind his latest order releasing Davis; i.e., “as long as there are others there to do it.”
There is a problem. First, we all know that, generally speaking, rural areas tend to be more conservative. Second, rural communities, by their very nature, are less densely populated than metro counties, and, therefore, would have fewer clerks – sometimes as few as one or two – in any given county clerk office. What happens when a county clerk’s office has but one clerk, and that clerk is against marriage equality? What happens when a clerk’s office has three clerks, and one is on vacation, one is out sick, and the remaining clerk is against marriage equality?
Overall, as even-handed and thoughtful as I believe Bunning to have been, I believe he should have addressed this issue with Davis’ son in the same way he did with her. As it is, I believe those against marriage equality will use this as a means to try to firmly establish special exceptions for dissenters. So, in essence, it will be fine to pick and choose what parts of your job you will perform, and which parts you won’t (because religion), as long as there is someone else in the office who will.
I see this as a dangerous precedent.

Carol Kawahara
Should keep her in jail. She is not working in a religious job.
Jimmyjam29621
Wow, so she gets out, lets see what’s she dose per the judges order.
Jerry Kelley
Didn’t all the Gays in that county get a license the day she was canned? So who’s left in that county wanting one? She should be left to rot or reconsider.
Jim Tatman
String ‘er up!
Eric Brookstein
Stones for sale! Make your order now 😉 🙂

@Xzamilio: Southern Democrats are more to the right than Northern Republicans. Says a lot about Southern Republicans… they make the British National Party look moderate. But Beshear has pretty folded and told Davis she must issue those licenses.
AtticusBennett
to see which politicians have fiscal plans that will utterly screw over all but the wealthiest americans, look for those who “stand with kim davis”
they know stupid bigots care more about hating gays than about learning the facts about fiscal policy.
adrianjurado310
Great, now you can follow her home.
crowebobby
@GG: Hey, as long as there another fountain to drink from, what was the problem with not being able to drink from the WHITE one? I thought that question was answered in the 60’s.
Desert Boy
Misery’s lawyer says she’ll continue blocking licenses when she returns to work. If she does, she will be re-arrested and returned to jail. Heffa signed an Oath of Office and she’s in violating that oath.
coastguy61
Ms. Davis took an oath to serve the people If she in good conscious does not want to issue marriage licenses to “ANY” of the people in Rowan County she needs to resign. As a Christian with a Theology Degree from Multnomah Bible College I am convinced that there is “No Biblical” basis to deny same sex marriage. Read your Bible people, if you choose to follow the law of the Old Testament then you need to follow All of the Law and in Ms. Davis case, she would have been stoned to death for adultery. As a follower of Jesus Christ I do not condemn her, instead I pity her for her hatred toward other Christians who happen to be Gay.
Giancarlo85
@Desert Boy: That won’t take long.
Bill Mountrey
That really cleaned the air at the jail.

This is how I envisioned the Judge and Miss Piggy Prigg (From West Wing courtesy of Daily KOS):
While addressing supporters, the fictional President Bartlet notices a popular conservative talk show host in the room and interrupts his speech to take her bigotry head on. The moment was an absolutely perfect takedown of bigotry based on biblical beliefs. Watch the masterful scene
BARTLET: It’s a good idea to be reminded of the awesome impact, the awesome impact… I’m sorry. You’re Dr. Jenna Jacobs, right?
JACOBS (obviously pleased to be recognized): Yes, sir!
BARTLET: It’s good to have you here.
JACOBS: Thank you!
BARTLET: … the awesome impact of the airwaves, and how that translates into the furthering of our national discussions, but obviously also how it can … how it can … Forgive me, Dr. Jacobs. Are you an M.D.?
JACOBS: A Ph.D.
BARTLET: A Ph.D.
JACOBS: Yes, sir.
BARTLET: In psychology?
JACOBS: No, sir.
BARTLET: Theology?
JACOBS: No.
BARTLET: Social work?
JACOBS: I have a Ph.D. in English Literature.
BARTLET: I’m asking ‘cause on your show people call in for advice – and you go by the name Dr. Jacobs on your show – and I didn’t know if maybe your listeners were confused by that and assumed you had advanced training in psychology, theology or health care.
JACOBS: I don’t believe they are confused, no, sir.
BARTLET: I like your show. I like how you call homosexuality an “abomination!”
JACOBS: I don’t say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President. The Bible does.
BARTLET: Yes it does. Leviticus!
JACOBS: 18:22.
BARTLET: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I wanted to sell my youngest daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She’s a Georgetown Sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be?
(Bartlet only waits a second for a response, then plunges on.)
BARTLET: While thinking about that, can I ask another? My chief of staff, Leo McGary, insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? Or is it okay to call the police?
(Bartlet barely pauses to take a breath.)
BARTLET: Here’s one that’s really important, because we’ve got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you?
(The camera pushes in on the president.)
One last thing. While you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building when the president stands, nobody sits.
(Jacobs sees that, in fact, the president is standing and she is the only one in the room sitting. After a moment, she rises, holding her tiny plate of appetizers. After the president exits, Sam Seaborn sternly approaches a thoroughly belittled Jacobs.)
SAM: I’m just … going to take that crab puff.

@woodroad34:
I remember that episode and have hunted the clip on YouTube a couple of times just because it’s such a great scene.
Jim Guinnessey
I doubt if she will comply as the Far Right politicians Ted the Moron Cruz, bigots from Liberty University, Chief Clown Huckabee, Rick the Mouth Santorum, Tony the Phony Perkins, Bryant the Pervert Fischer and a host of other Far Right panderers and frauds will use this sanctimonious adulteress to keep their names in the limelight. And let’s not forget the bloodhounds in the GOP eager to use every free media scrap that falls their way to bolster their chances with their ignorant constituents to vote the “GOP hate fags agenda” in 2016.
Rick Holtz
Ugly, hypocritical, bigoted POS. She’s stealing from the government, is a serial adultress and has a twisted idea about right and wrong. She should rot in Hell.
NateOcean
Which of her ex-husbands will she be sleeping with tonight?
Mercurical Memo
America is a Proud Nation. It points fingers at Al-Queda, Boko Haran and ISIL and yet they harbour the exact same carbon copy type of people in its borders. I remember when White gays got into frantic panics over the Blacks that were keeping them from getting married, remember that? It was all the Black community’s fault.
This Kim Davis episode is about as entertaining as watching Fox News fall apart over Donald Trump. When Ann Coulter calls O’Reilly stupid one MUST grab the popcorn.
So now here’s this white woman, and backing her are all these white wing-nuts who hide as rabidly behind the bible as a-lqueda does with the Koran. I mean, I look at Americans and your Pat Robertsons, and Phil Robertson’s bloody rape fantasies, a nation that is beyond gun crazy, where every other day there is a Charlie Hebdo like massacre, but don’t you take those guns away from AMERIKAHNS!!!!
USA!!!! USA!!!! USA!!!!
CarolR
@Cory M. Warren: Her term is 4 yrs. and started in Jan. 2015. Let’s hope they impeach her before her term ends.
CarolR
@Deb Kerak: Completely irrelevant.
Curty
She better not disrupt same sex marriage licenses or deny their civil rights again. Stupid selfish, nutty bitch. Throw her ass back in jail if she does. This is so selfish of her and against the law. The Gov and state needs to impeach this hypocritical whore!
ethan_hines
I have a feeling this paper will have as much power as the one signed by Neville Chamberlain to prevent WWII.

I don’t care about this woman or what she does anymore. For. The. Love. Of. God. “Unfollowing.”

Don’t celebrate whore, you didn’t win because you spent time in jail.

@GG: Could not agree more. You put it so succinctly. Does the adulterous fanatic issue marriage licenses for different raced heterosexuals? I guess nepotism is rampant in Kentucky since her son is serving in her office and wasn’t elected.
Mikki Hurley
I’d be so okay with these people who wanted to impose religious laws actually proved they abided 100% in said laws themselves.
Atldeuce
Before we get on our high horses, remember that Clinton and Obama also prohibited dam sex marriages until the polls told them to”evolve” their positions. Only Joe Biden has been with us all the way
paul dorian lord fredine
yup, with rev. lard-ass at her side. just can’t pass up a good photo-op. always good for the fundraising.

I wish the media would frame it in most basic terms. Just like anyone else — when you’re hired for a job, you are obligated to fulfill all the tasks of the job.
This religious ignorant is not being persecuted for her beliefs, but for her ability do her job because it conflicts with her beliefs. In this case, instead of putting er in jail, she should have been put on leave or fired.
The religious freaks use it as confirmation of war on religion, when it’s just a practical matter of reason and following the law. Unfortunately, public businesses have some leeway to discriminate. But when you work for the government, you should not be able to get away with this sort of bullshit. Religion has its place in society, but the USA constitution was brilliantly constructed to separate church and state. Just look at the middle east, where religious dogma dominates their governments.

If she does not do her job, she will go back to the slammer. Perhaps she should seek employment from her cushy $80K job to possibly the local Piggly Wiggly?
bearfuzzlover
Maybe she is but, with respect, that’s not the issue. Her failure to issue same sex marriage licenses is. I believe if she refuses, she should be sacked from her job and returned to prison for a term determined by the court appropriate to her non compliance.
