Brenda Namigadde, the 29-year-old Ugandan lesbian who’s been pleading with British immigration officials to grant her asylum, received an emergency stay, saving her from a planned deportation on Friday. With the horrific murder that claimed the life of Ugandan activist David Kato just for being gay and speaking out against the further criminalization of homosexuality there, I can only imagine Britain didn’t want to have a PR nightmare on its hands if Namigadde were sent back — and slaughtered.

Does anyone else find this strange? “Ms. Namigadde’s lawyer, Abdulrahman Jafar, said he would argue that she should be allowed to remain in Britain, regardless of her sexuality, because she has declared herself to be a lesbian.”

@Alan: I don’t find in strange. The murderous savages in her old country would have killed her whether she’s a real lesbian or not.
