It did (bother me) when I was young. It hurt my family a lot of course. But who cares?… It doesn’t really matter to me any more. I have got gay friends. If I was gay would it make any difference? Would you not come to my concerts if I was gay? I hope not.”
— 73-year-old entertainer Sir Cliff Richard, who has never married, asked about the gay rumors that have followed him throughout his career, during an interview with A Current Affair
Cam
Actually, if he had come out, people over here might actually remember who he was.
Bromancer7
Wait, is he trying to say that he’s not gay? Cause I could have sworn he came out years and years ago.
Billy Budd
I feel sorry for these guys who get old and retire without ever being honest about who they are.
jazz4108
I could not live like that. I waited till I was 25 to come out to my friends and was so scared and found out I had nothing to worry about. Several of them have hit on me since which is kind of funny. I am settled down now in a 13 year relationship but my partner does not want to marry claiming he does not want me to inherit his debt from school loans. I hope hes being truthfull but it does make one think as we have been through a lot together and we are still together.
vive
I thought it was common knowledge that he was gay. Is he now saying he isn’t.
woodin
saw him down in Barbados several years ago at a musical performance and his small posse of friends where definitely not straight.
Mezaien
What Career? the shadows have broke up in the last century. I remember him in the early 1960`s.
GeriHew
My guess is that he is more or less asexual.
JJinAus
@Cam: Really! You’re on the internet. Educate yourself. I am not a fan, but he has been extremely active with 100 albums and millions of records sold, so hardly a recluse. Clearly you’re yet another ignorant Yank.
JJinAus
@Mezaien: Approximately 250 million records sold. Seriously. You need an education.
Oh, and I think Cliff needs to be slapped for staying in the closet.
NJjoe
I too thought he was out. Oh well.
Cam
@JJinAus:
I love these hysterical fangurls that come in here and first claim to not be a fan, then go on to list every detail of the person’s career.
First of all, there are several places where you live I am assuming that you could buy a life.
Secondly, if you go and re-read my post without hyperventilating you will see that I said he might be remembered OVER HEAR if he came out. In other words, nobody in America really remembers the guy as he had one minor hit here, coming out would have certainly gotten him a lot more attention over here if he had done it a few years ago.
There, now you can go smooth out all of your posters of him and that ticket stub you got from the concert you went to 20 years ago while you’re typing on here how you aren’t a fan. Sheesh.
Mezaien
@JJinAus: Come on dude! when I was in uniforms you were in liquid form.
JJinAus
@Cam: Ooh, err, I feel so cowed. Some snarky navel gazing bitchy queen slaps me and I am to retreat into my obscure country and sob because I am not living in ‘Merica. I don’t know how I will sleep tonight. Incidentally, OVER HEAR is spelled OVER HERE. So sorry somebody who has sold 250million records is not worthy of your attention because he is not geographically close to you.
Seriously, you are the epitome of the arrogant, clueless American. You are letting your country down.
JJinAus
@Mezaien: Really? I have worn uniform and I am in my 50s. How ancient are you?
Cam
@JJinAus:
So lets see, it’s arrogant to point out that you were wrong? Or is it arrogant to not care who Cliff Richard is? Because either one means that much of the word is arrogant.
But again, lets take a look at you shall we? So desperate that you troll the internet for mentions of your obsession.
Then you come on a gay site and start calling people queens.
Even more sad, you lie and claim to not be a fan while at the same time being so stupid that you mention a list of details about your obsession that only a fan would know.
And lastly you….(Yawn)….oh, I’m sorry, but talking about you was nearly as boring as listening to a Cliff Richard record.
JJinAus
@Cam: Something is wrong with you. YOU were wrong. Not only that, willfully ignorant and xenophobic. I am gay, so you’re wrong again. You ARE a bitchy queen. How many minutes has it been since you uttered the phrase “get her”?
JJinAus
@Cam: Oh, and PS, you’re typing on the internet. How did I know these details? Ummm……………..GOOGLE!!!! You should try it before virtually opening your mouth (having first clicked on the article) and showing your ignorance about the subject of the article. I am not a fan of Cliff’s. His fan-base is suburban. I just dislike people who, despite have every advantage in life, are still ignorant.
Cam
@JJinAus:
I love it when people who claim that they aren’t fans get so angry and obsessive and then try to claim that they don’t care.
Here is a thought, instead of simply name calling and acting like a spoiled 3 year old, point out exactly what I have said that is wrong.
I mean I would hate for you to take time out of your busy anti-gay day of calling people queens and bitches, but give it a try. Take what I have said, break it down and point out what exactly is incorrect.
Oh you can continue to do what you have been doing, hyperventilating, using anti-gay language, pretending to be gay when called on it, pretending to not be a fan of this guy and then getting FURIOUS and attacking any comments that you don’t agree with etc….
JJinAus
@Cam: You’re a nut. I have been “pretending” to be gay for decades. My partner (male) of 14 years will agree.
You were wrong, I pointed this out and now you are furious and have concocted a preposterous back story to try and wriggle out of it. Psychology 101. The very thing you accuse me of is the thing that you are doing. Now put your toys back in your pram and get a life.
PS furious? Where am I furious? Look at your own post. Classic transference.
