It’s Jesus, bitch. While Britney Spears readies her extravagant mime act for Las Vegas, a new musical uses the pop diva’s songs to tell the story of Christ.
Scheduled to be performed Thursday at the Foxwoods Theater in New York City, SPEARS: The Gospel According To Britney is a new pop opera that chronicles the life, death, and resurrection of God’s only son using hits like “…Baby One More Time,” “Stronger,” and “Oops!… I Did It Again.”
According to its press materials, SPEARS: The Gospel According To Britney was immaculately conceived by 23-year-old Patrick Blute and originally presented last year at Columbia University. A review in the Columbia Spectator was favorable.
“Little can be done to deny the star power of SPEARS,” wrote Charlotte Murtishaw in the review, “which manages to tackle the marriage of Spears and Christ in a way that respects both deities and keeps the audience fully engaged and entertained.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
On the show’s website, Blute says the completely sung-through piece is intended to assuage “a lot of the anxiety 20-somethings feel about living in a society that has thousands of statements and not much substance.”
No word on how much of the performance will be lip-synced.

Please, it’s not an “opera”.
it’s a vulgar pop music show.
Try not to confuse actual art with trash. I know it’s hard, considering just how much trash gets put up on this website, but still.
