Queerty is better as a member
umm really? that was by FAR thee most wasted story…apparently this site is run by a bunch of nazi pc homo monkeys look’n to sensationalize anyting ANYONE says! Brit wasn’t being “homophobic”…she was say’n what any other homo of cackl’n “gurls” say when out with their possee on a friday nite…http://getoffmydress.blogspot.com/2013/12/as-eyelash-curls.html
Well, she has a point. If you’re a Britney Spears fan and consider her your “idol” or “icon” you most likely are somewhat a girl.
Q… she is mentally ill – she means no harm
Well, they are! No use denying it, girlfriend!
I hate the stereotype that gay men are “somewhat girls,” basically reducing gay men to female children. Insipid. All the drug addicts above who agree with her statement are insufferable.
Britney is not the gay-friendly person her deluded gay male fans have claimed her to be. Her image is built on appealing to the straight guy fantasy by using strategic nudity and lesbianism.
She is a pathetic act who ripped off her fans by reportedly miming in concert. Nuff said.
I think she’s a hack and a worthless talent, well, no talent. She’s a batch and should hide. I think she’s terrible.
There’s NOTHING homophobic about her saying gay guys are kind of like girls because there’s NOTHING wrong with being like girls! Save that sexist stuff for the real homophobes. Britney is sweet and real! If you’ve ever seen her shows/specials ‘chaotic’ and ‘for the record’, you’d see she is a genuine and gentle soul. I love Britney!!!!!
She may not be the most artistic person herself, but she is certainly an artist in her own respect. And whether you think she has talent, she’s accomplished more in her life than you most likely so who’s the real hack??
Oh, please, get a clue. Britney spent her whole career faking talent. She mimed or lip-synced, even in her supposedly “live” concerts.
The media gave her a pass because the media has been bought. Britney stinks.
Well, it’s true! Most gay guys are kinda girly, including me, though I’m not a fan of Britney Spears. What would really be newsworthy is if a Tony Romo or Tom Brady did come out as gay AND were fans of Britney Spears. Non-girly guy celebrities coming out gay, and non-girly guys loving Britney Spears? Now THAT would be news.
We all don’t “adore” her, either. Don’t blame her for making blanket statements and then turn around and do the same thing. She is nothing but a product. She can’t sing, doesn’t write her own stuff and if she wasn’t hot (well, at least at one time she was) she’d be flipping burgers somewhere (not that there’s anything wrong with that – she just wouldn’t be a multi-millionaire “entertainer”).
What would one expect from a republican ?
Well duh, she’s a southern Baptist.
This girl is not a homophobe. She’s apparently surrounded by gay men who are more feminine and that’s her point of reference. Her friends probably need to explain the diversity of our community. Str8 people on the whole are not well informed about the lbgt diversity,
Oh yes , we’re girls alright – most of us anyway, are at least pretending to be girls. And some of us, just a few of us, even WANT to be girls. Being the girly guy, who hates physical contact sports, is afraid of getting hurt, makes friends with all his girl classmates in school and has an affinity for all the finer, prettier things in life go hand in hand with growing up and later coming out as gay. This is the way it goes for the majority of gay men.
we need to get a giant cruise ship, but Britney, Miley, Kanye, Chris Brown, and other hateful folks on it, send it to middle of ocean, sink it.
1. Britney Spears is an idiot.
2. Gay fans of Britney Spears probably do tend toward the “girly,” not that there’s anything wrong with that.
She’s just stupid, not homophobic. Madonna is the same way. Have you ever actually heard what she really thinks of gays? She has repeatedly referred to them as broken, dysfunctional, helpless, weak.
maybe she meant gay guys are like girls in the sense a girl can be friends with them like they are with girls? hummm.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with what she sai and it is accurate to some degree. Gay guys generally (not all because I know some douche is going to say how much he LOVES sports and to fix cars) go for the “girly” things. I mean go to any gay website talk to majority of gay people we’re not talking about how much we love (insert straight male artist here) no we’re always talking about DIVAS and wannabe divas. Not to mention from a science perspectives many studies have been done on the brains of homosexuals that shows there are quite a few parts of our brains including the size of it which are identical to women’s brains as opposed to heterosexual men’s brains. Not to even further mention, WE LIKE MEN. 9.5/10 women like men. So yeah guys we are “somewhat girls”
@Bee Gaga: Amen.
Britney, being gay does not mean that you’re a member of the opposite sex. Honey, you’re more stupid than the Louisiana dirt. Give those kids back to Kevin.
I love Britney… and we ARE like girls. So don’t act all insulted, that makes you people look even more like flaming homos.
If you want to be a girl, be a girl. Just don’t project your rejection of masculinity onto other gay men.
If you or others wish to shake your faux-uteruses to a mindless Britney babble, take the floor and stop pretending that we must all be like you.
implied I am taken by surprise that someone able to earn $6934 in one month on the computer. this website>>> iz.sg/Br
Jimbryant, you are a tool. She’s hardly the only performer to have used a back track or lip synched for whatever reason or another; she’s still a performer and she’s more of a dancer than a singer, but she has her voice/niche and her personality, which is not homophobic.
It’s pretty sick and sad when we gays try to even turn on people who clearly are not anti-gay but just have a limited perspective. There are many more conventionally masculine gay guys out there, but honestly most of the gay guys that are fans of and dance with Britney are rather femme. Again, there’s nothing wrong or insulting about being compared to a female! The appropriation of the male as superior to the female is so stupid.
“umm really? that was by FAR thee most wasted story…apparently this site is run by a bunch of nazi pc homo monkeys look’n to sensationalize anyting ANYONE says!”
So lets see, in trying to claim that what she said WAS NOT Homophobic, you use the word “Homo” in attacking.
So in other words, of COURSE you don’t see a problem, because you are obviously a bigot.
Lastly, it’s funny whenever there is a story on somebody like Spears and all their Crazy fans come in here freaking out. The worst are STILL the former Clay Aiken fans.
What’s the big deal, of all my gay friends, the one that has been to a Britney concert, BIG GIRL. She’s right. The extent to which she doesn’t understand that when she makes such comments it comes off as sounding like she is labeling all gay as being girly just reveals her to be a BIG IDIOT.
She has a point.
@Kieran: ROTFL !
@Dez “there’s NOTHING wrong with being like girls!” AMEN!
I love that Britney’s off-the-cuff remark can cause such a worthwhile debate about gender and gay identity. We still have a lot of internalized homophobia when we are worried about being perceived as girls. What’s wrong with girls? Nothing. It’s like straight men being afraid to be perceived as gay. We applaud straight men who say “I don’t care if people think I’m gay, there’s nothing wrong with being gay.” I equally applaud a gay man who HAS THE BALLS to say “I don’t mind being called a girl, there’s nothing wrong with being a girl.” And then follows it up by saying “come out back and this girl will give you a good f-ing” LOL..
I didn’t like Britney for a long time…. until I loved her. I still do. Most people who’ve sat down to interview her are very open about saying they come out of the interview confused… wondering if she really is in fact a secret genius behind the dumbass southern persona. In fact she can sing (watch her on Star Search as a kid), but no one can actually sing in the type of production spectacle she presents as a concert. She did drive her own career and make herself a star. She has struggled with mental illness and luckily has so far avoided her grandmother’s fate of suicide by self-inflicted gunshot at age 31. And yes, like so many of us (gays included) she started out a homophobe (as she was taught growing up I’m sure by our culture) and has gradually “evolved”. No doubt she still has some evolving left to do. As do we all.
Love you, Britney, keep doing your thing and enjoy life !
A straight being perceived as gay is not the same thing as a gay man being called a girl. Of course there is nothing wrong with girls or women, but gay men are not girls or women !
@deepdow… yeah, I can see what you mean in terms of it being used culturally as a put-down and insult to gay men to be called a girl….
….but then I look at little farther into it and say if you are really offended by it and take it as an insult then that is because we have been taught culturally that men are more important than women and so a man will feel offended and insulted if he is referred to as the person in society who has the least power… a girl. Yes I can see it’s hurtful to a gay man to be called a girl. We were raised to be hurt by that. But in the end I give the greatest applause to the powerful gay man who is so comfortable in his identity as a gay man, and so strong and comfortable in his own body that he is willing to stand up for girls and say “I don’t mind being called a girl, I think girls are amazing!” It doesn’t make him a girl in my opinion, it just makes him awesome.
Much like my afore-mentioned straight male celebrity who doesn’t protest “i’m not gay, so don’t call me gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that” but instead just says “I don’t mind if you call me gay, I think gays are cool.” I like the second guy better.
The onus is on the whole male gender, regardless of sexuality, to become at ease with the “girl” identifier then, but it’s not and furthermore, why would you call a gay man, a girl, a female child? I have no problem with men being characterized as effeminate, but the idea is not to own insults and try to appropriate stereotypes in my eyes. Girls are wonderful, but I don’t think it should be necessary for gay men to validate the girl experience through their lives. Maybe we should just give power to girls and women? Maybe we should give power to gay men?
I am comfortable with myself, but I am not comfortable with living vicariously through the backwards stereotypes of – ugh – the celebrity.
Let’s not be side-tracked by the “girl” notion. Let’s concentrate on Britney Spears and her prejudices towards gay men. Let’s also concentrate on her miming and lip-syncing, which have earned her millions.
Let’s also mention that she is one of a number of current pop females who use gay men as a cover to appeal to the sleazy straight guy fantasy for female nudity and lesbianism.
We’re being used as a cover, guys. Time to tell Britney and her cohorts to take a hike.
I think that her music sucks, but that’s just my opinion.
We can’t expect her to be an expert on gay culture. She’s not that smart, people! As far as I know, there are only 3 smart fag hag celebrities: Cher, Bette and Babs. There’s no way that she could be a part of that club. So what if Brit doesn’t know what a “twink” is. She obviously knows that’s her fanbase.
hmmm, I am a gay man and I am not offended or upset by being called “somewhat girl.”
In fact I think that “somewhat girl” would be an awesome t-shirt that I would happily wear. Hilarious actually. And I would love to see some hot masculine male celebs all wearing “somewhat girl” t-shirts too.
Also I don’t think anyone is forced to buy Britney’s records, or attend her concerts, and I doubt that anyone is unaware of her lip synching and miming. Miming? Actually I’m not sure I’ve seen her do miming, but now that you mention it, I hope she does, I would watch it happily. It’s called “entertainment” and her flaws are part of her package.
@spunkybunks: Yeah I guess Cher is smart. Past boyfriends and the “If I Could Turn Back Time” video made me a little hesitant at first on this assessment… but I do enjoy her outspokenness, candid comments, willingness to retract comments when wrong, and willingness to “evolve” on her journey with her child Chaz.
I commented here but it didn’t get published (probably because of the swear words, my bad). Hopefully this works, so here it goes.
Personally, I’m not offended by anything she said only because she’s not the brightest bulb in the bunch. Yeah yeah yeah, most gay boys are just like girls and blah blah blah. Like I never heard that before.
But what gets me is how if it were a straight guy saying this exact stuff, most of you Britney defenders would probably lose your minds. And if it were a black straight guy… whoa.
Yes, it’s completely dumb to even think that femme gays are the minority in the gay male world. So it is irritating when some gay men, like jimbryant, need to constantly point out that there are masculine gays out there as if being femme is so terrible or even non-existent lol. However, it’s just as irritating as hell when others insist that all gay men are inherently femme and must worship female divas because we’re all really girls trapped in men’s bodies and so on. And loving men doesn’t make you more girly, just like loving women doesn’t make you more manly. I know plenty of 100% straight males who are far from macho, and some are pretty damn girly themselves.
@yupwhatever …. I’ve given some thought to whether I would be upset if a black straight male said that he often was inspired by or performed for or felt a kinship with his gay fans because they were “somewhat girls.” I don’t think it would bother me. In fact I think I would like him more for acknowledging his gay fans… despite the inelegant choice of words. I think the gay community would educate him pretty quickly, as I am sure Britney is getting a dose of education as we comment on this story. I think the issue for me when evaluating any celebrity’s gay gaffes is whether I feel malice, aggression, or the threat of violence behind the words, which I do not in this case.
@jimbryant: What’s a “Nuff”?
What is this? Butch gay men hate Britney week or something?
Or is it the butch gay men against fem gay men who love Britney and other girly, pink fluffy things club?
@GeriHew: PLENTY of butch gay men love Britney! But certain gay men, both butch and otherwise, have an agenda. Whatever. Let them gloat in their imagined superiority — they probably need it.
