Bryan Singer Drops Out Of X-Men Campaign, Defends Himself Against “Outrageous” Abuse Allegations

bsingerThe allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past. This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I’ve decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film. However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support.”

Director Bryan Singer announcing that he won’t participate in the publicity duties for X-Men: Days of Future Past due to sexual abuse allegations made against him, in a statement released through his publicist

@robirob: Absolutely correct. This is not a decision on Brian’s part. He’s only the director. This is a decision made from higher-ups.

Everyone who was in the gay scene in Hollywood/West Hollywood in the late 90’s knows that these allegations are probably true. Bryan was never seen out without an underaged-looking twink (or four) with him. The first time I met him, at a house party in Santa Monica in May/June of 1998, he hit on me relentlessly (I was a younger-looking 20… If he’d known I was 20 he’d probably have said I was too old) and after I turned him down, because I was in a relationship, he made sure to be a total dick to me at every party I ran into him at for the next three years (when I moved back to NYC).

A good friend of mine at the time, who was 17, said Bryan used to cruise him and his friends at Mickey’s (18+ nights) and the Abbey (which let anyone in back when it was a coffee shop with some alcohol) relentlessly. He’d even use his influence to get them into Rage and Revolver. He put a lot of effort into the way-too-young ones to think he’d never gotten lucky with some of them.

I hate to judge anybody based on looks but.. come on he LOOKS like a freaking creep. Anyways, now that that’s out of the way… sigh I’m sorry, here comes more judgement. I’m just REALLY surprised he’s still standing or that he ever had a leg to stand on in the first place. An openly gay filmmaker in the 90s with a notorious reputation of partying with twinks made movie after movie….. How the hell did he even get a chance when most gays can’t even go a year without facing discrimination?

@Ian: X2 was actually a great movie. Three ruined everything it built though. Either way, it’s nowhere near as bad as Xmen Origins: Wolverine. Will.I.Am CANT DO ANYTHING!!!!

Bryan Singer is not the first older guy to be into twinks. He’s not the first older man to be into younger people PERIOD. It doesn’t mean they were minors, it doesn’t make him a rapist, and it doesn’t mean we all get to make assumptions with zero evidence. Terry Richardson, Woody Allen, Ted Nugent…all of them have a lot of evidence stacked against them. So far, Bryan Singer only has a few bitchy queen witnesses in comments sections and an accusation that appears to be falling apart.

@viciouslies: I’ll take what you say at face value. And what you say indicates that:

*Singer cruises people at venues for people over 18. Nothing illegal there.
*He’s sometimes rude if rejected. Makes him a prat but isn’t illegal or unusual.
*He is attracted to 17 year olds. Well as the age of consent is 16 in most of the civilised world. So nothing unusual about that and nothing illegal in Hawaii or most of the free world.
*You say he was rejected but didn’t force himself on anyone you know of.

So basically he behaved like a large number of straight and gay men is chasing pretty, young but legal people. Just like High Hefner, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and millions of others.

The specific allegation by Egan is that Singer raped him. So unless you have evidence that supports this then your comment doesn’t really move us on at all. Except in damning a gay man for what has been seen as normal behaviour among straight men for hundreds of years.

If Singer is a rapist then he needs the book thrown at him, but if he isn’t then he shouldn’t be trolled for behaviour which wouldn’t even merit a mention if it was done by a straight guy.

I bet Bryan Singer really counted on him being visible in the promotion of the most likely successful movie (all his other non X-Men projects flopped) to reel in new barely legal twinks. The whole thing is one major c’ckblock to him (I doubt that at this point he even cares about his career).

      @Zodinsbrother:
Hello “Hollywood Babylon”.To defend Singers behaviour with the argument that “has been seen as normal behaviour among straight men for hundreds of years” on a queer web-site is really monumenal stupidity. You sound like one of the stupid bible boys who is claiming the right to bash on gay people with the bible argument.NOPE!I`m no ones ally. And if you wouldn`t define yourself not only just as a gay man in your community but
also as a part of the society you had noted the following:
-to “abuse” minors is mostly not seen as normal(outside of Hollywood obviously)
-not all parents are willing to sell their kids for money and fame
      – Freaky F*cker Woody Allen was not chosen as “Daddy of the Year”
-Girls mostly do not dream to be like Anna Nicole “Sad and Dead” Smith
      – Hefner is mostly celebrated by ol F*ckers like him
-And the Stones/Beatles( had to google that) are famous for love/dating/marry powerful woman and not for chasing&drugging minors.LINK please!!!

@viciouslies: yep. the only thing I would correct is the focus on just singer, because there is a little group of 3-4 of these high profile pedophiles in WeHo, among whome Singer is just 1, and of course, West Hollywood queens being the servile, facile people that they are, everyone either ignores it or is jealous of the ability to parade around underaged children so boldly and regularly. sad.

the biggest fear is that singer might not have anymore house parties with free flowing coke, and broke queens will never be able to find their own dealers much less pay for it.

@smithster11: Singer will be cleared too. LOL! What? Hopefully nobody is under any illusions as to how the Los Angeles justice system works here….

…he will be cleared of all charges, and his accuser will be vilified and defamed. That doesn’t mean shit about whether or not the charges are true or not, which they probably are.

      I loved X2.

I am on Singer’s side. I would agree to behis defense witness, would sware on the bible to tell the truth, and would describe him as the most human, caring, law-abiding, and honest gay guy that I’ve ever met.

In my opinion is he being harrassed by a bunch of oportinistic leeches. I don’t believe he has broken the law, and I believe that having sex with young adults is healthy, positive and desirable.

In Germany, you can`t make that much money with a law case like that.If Egan would win this case here he would probably get 1000 Euro “pain and suffering money”( not more than 25000 Euro).

So… you’re a long-time friend of Singer’s, Billy Budd? Or are you just so envious of his successful career as an ephebophile who gleefully manipulates inexperienced (but “legal”) young twinks that you’re willing to lie on his behalf? (Also, incidentally, have you ever seen The Manchurian Candidate with Frank Sinatra and Angela Lansbury? “Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.”)

As long as it is good thing for you simply give a shit if it is good thing for others.

Your English is excellent, toberlin (and so is Billy Budd’s), but it would sound better this way:

“As long as it is a good thing for you, you simply don’t give a shit about whether it is a good thing for others.”

In other words, “to give a shit” = “to be concerned about, to worry over something”, etc.

(My very first “professional” job after graduating from the University of Virginia was teaching ESL to Russians in Moscow! I feel very bad for LGBT Russians — although, fortunately, things aren’t quite as terribly hopeless for Russian gays as some people in the West imagine — but that’s a topic for another time.)
