Like most WASPs who ritually condescend to their plebeian audiences, Anderson Cooper delivered a disingenuous apology to the Dyngus Day-celebrating residents of Buffalo, New York. Cooper claimed that, during his minute-long giggle fit (one of his most severe ever), he was saying “this is so stupid” to himself, not branding a quirky regional celebration as lame.
Really, Andy? An insincere apology is worse that no apology at all, IMHO.
Anyway, Buffalonians With Too Much Time On Their Hands (BWTMTOTH) actually staged a “Pussy-Willow Pride” protest against Anderson Cooper yesterday (right), and Cooper invited the Dyngus Day’s HBIC on the show. The guy told Anderson he had every right to think Dyngus Day is ridiculous and weird (thank God for sincerity), and that they wanted to accept his apology and invite him to next year’s festivities.
In fact, he said, the Dyngus Day druids would like to offer Anderson Cooper the title of “Pussy-Willow Prince.”

Anderson strikes me as kind of quirky and odd himself after watching his daytime show, I don’t think his apology is insincere and I do think he’s the type that really does appreciate weird celebrations like this Dyngus thing. What set him off giggling was the mention of the word “pussywillow”.

i love it when anderson goes into a giggling fit during a ridiculist segment (as long as it stays the exception rather than the rule). it’s so infectious!! can’t help but smile to see him succumb to the girlie-giggles. they’re sincere and i love it 🙂
