Burt Reynolds had some harsh words for Charlie Sheen this week.
During an appearance on ITV’s Loose Women yesterday, Reynolds said Sheen “deserved” HIV after years and years of “misbehaving,” adding that he had zero sympathy for the actor.

“His father [Martin Sheen] is a very, very decent man and a dear friend of mine,” Reynolds blabbed. “I feel bad for him. For Charlie, I don’t feel bad for him. He’s getting what he deserves. … He misbehaved badly. Very badly.”

“If you’re going to misbehave like that,” the actor, who details his battle with prescription drug addiction in his memoir But Enough About Me, continued, “then they’re going to get you.”
It’s unclear who or what Reynolds meant when he used the word “they’re,” but we can only assume he meant the HIV virus.

Reynolds went on to say he believed Sheen did a poor job at announcing he was living with the virus, implying that perhaps he should have kept his HIV status silent instead.
“He’s handled it badly, I think,” Reynolds said.
Of course, the 79-year-old Hollywood veteran isn’t the first celebrity to express animosity towards the actor. Last month, anti-vaxxer Jenny McCarthy, who once worked with Sheen on Two And A Half Men, publicly shamed him for not telling her about his status before they taped a love scene together.
“You would think there would be some type of, I don’t want to say criminal issue, but I don’t even know how to feel about that,” McCarthy said.

Maybe it’s because I’m in my 20’s. Or maybe it’s because I’m straight. Regardless, I don’t see why he was considered such a sex symbol, even in his prime. I’ve seen the Cosmopolitan nude layout and I don’t find him attractive at all. Then again, I don’t find Tom Selleck attractive either, whether in his prime or now. And there are plenty of men in the 70s and 80s that I think are attractive.

Since the 80’s, the message surrounding AIDS is overwhelmingly about safe sex, and being responsible for yourself. That is not to say anyone who has AIDS has contracted it due to being irresponsible. But Charlie Sheen has lived a reckless lifestyle, where he has acted completely irresponsibly.
As for the promiscuity aspect of it, lets not be blind to the fact that having sex with a lot of different partners will increase the risk of contracting AIDS. Having unprotected sex will definitely increase that even further. That has always been the message ever since AIDS was labelled as GRID in the early 80s.
Did he deserve AIDS? No. No-one does. Has he “misbehaved”? If that is referring to his promiscuity, then maybe. It’s a matter of personal morals. However, his behaviour around declaring his HIV status to other people, is definitlely bad. He has put other people at risk by his behaviour. That is not on.
