Gary Bushell is a vile anti-gay fuckwit. He used to be in an extremist lefty group here in the UK, called Militant – (a group that used to take its young gay members outside and beat them up for "bourgeois revisionism" ie being gay).

Now he has become as vile a right winger as he once was left and he justifies his opinions with the excuse that he is working class and the working class don't like poofs.

He writes for the SUN newspaper a scummy mass circulation newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch, and panders to the lowest common demominator prejudices of its ill educated readership – reading age of a retarted 11 year old – and, until it became unfashionable here, was a rabidly anti-gay rag. Depressingly, the SUN is one of the biggest selling newspapers here in the UK.

I don't underestimate the stupidity of human beings. Indeed that is one of the problems of a capitalist democracy, namely that opinions are formed by and in the interests of the rich and powerful men who own the newspapers and dictate what people think. These same people are of the same super rich class as those who own most of the companies in a country.

A solution would be to break up the big media conglomerates into much smaller units, much like the Bell telephone company was broken up and then run all the media outlets as trusts, much like the Guardian newspaper here in the UK, and/or run the broadcast media like the BBC or Channel 4 here in the UK is run, via a general tax on everyone who watches tv. (Until recently channel 4 was paid for via a "tax" on the profits of the big commercial tv companies, as well as raising revenue via the normal showing of adverts on tv)

Dawster, it's not a question of "muzzling" free speech – just as you don't permit some arsehole with a bully pulpit on the radio to go around saying blacks are monkeys nor should some bully on the radio be permitted to go around equating gays with child molesters or to go around spreading anti-gay hatred.

If the campaign against anti gay jamaican ragga artists and rappers is justified then so is the fact that gary bushell is disciplined for his hate speech.

I think he was making light of the situation at hand… and that was wrong, true. And yes, he commented in May that pedophiles and gay people both don't watch football (soccer).

I don't mind people being ignorant. i still think it's covered under "free speech". he was being apathetic and rude. i think it's up to his employers to say "no, we don't want this"… in which case there is a place for him in America with Fox News.

my issue with the reggae thing (as i had written), was that it actually WAS promoting violence and gay bashing.
