I was privileged to not only see Ms. Lavin and Mr. Silver in “They Lyons,” but was able to meet them outside the theater after the performance. Both were very warm and gracious people. I look forward to the opportunity to see them both on and off the stage in this new play in 2014.
I’m biased here, because CHEERLEADER composer Andrew Abrams is a friend of mine. But I think it’s a smart, fun show with good songs, and I hope Jerry Mitchell brings it to Broadway.
(And since I’m being biased, I’ll just throw in for NYC-based readers that Andy Abrams is talented, funny, and momentarily single!)

Love the film (Eddie Cibrian!) and ill bet the the play is fun!
Cheerleader is a hysterical film, but I think Natasha Lyonne deserves a lot of the credit for its success. Jerry Mitchell is the wrong person to direct this (or anything) IMO. He does not have the creative talents to bring a new musical to stage. He’s managed to butcher a few classic musicals with his pointless (as in lack of directorial vision) direction. Sadly, there are few great directors working today, but Mitchell should be at the bottom of every producer’s list.
A small nit- Streep and Thompson are not really stage actors. Yes, they have appeared on stage, but so has Julia Roberts. That doesn’t make Julia Roberts a stage actor any more than these two.
