Calpernia Addams Is Tired Of Trans Actresses Having To Play Freaks

Today The New York Times ran a great overview of American trans actors including Harmony Santana, the actress who wowed Outfest audiences in her debut feature Gun Hill Road. But life isn’t all starring roles and queer premieres. Casting trans gets tricky when you have directors acting weird about their stars seeming gay opposite their trans co-stars, cisgender actresses portraying trans people, and trans-ploitation films that turn trans-victims into psychopaths. Sick of it all, Calpernia Addams made a short film that shows just how hard it is for talented trans performers to get the respect they deserve, both in front of and behind the camera.
