Can Gay Porn Survive the Recession?

xtube

QUEERTY SELECTS — While almost every industry faces uncertainly in this economy, the gay porn biz also faces more and more consumers turning to free sites like XTube to get their X-rated fix. So how are porn producers handling this extra-sharp knife? The Advocate‘s C. Brian Smith explains: adjusting, lowering expectations, and threatening to kill the people behind free streaming porn sites. [Advocate]

Oh, and one other thing. The Advocate POS article lost me with its reference to the crappiest, craziest POS web site with respect to Porn, ever. I won’t even say its name, as it doesn’t rank in any way but its rank-ness.

WHAT is the obsession with porn articles lately? jeez. between all these sex-industry articles and the increase in man-pic columns (“oh snap!” and “gratuitous skin”) in addition to the usual “morning goods”…. y’all better be careful, this site is starting to sleaze out.

I have never been so hard up for sexual release as to spend $50 bucks on a DVD. Sorry Chi-Chi LaRue. If I can’t get it off gay-torrets.net it’s just not that important.

I would make a bailout joke, but it’s been a long day.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for porn producers who exploit their talent endlessly with flat fees per scene and rights to the footage and images in perpetuity? Not so much.

Why do you think performers form their own production companies? Because the only other way to make money in porn is to use your “stardom” as escort marketing.

In a recession I don’t know many people willing to pay $60+ for a DVD.

I discovered the “tube” sites late, I refuse to pay for porn now. Since porn is generally used for jacking anyway, it’s easier to hop online to satisfy that urge.

The Advocate’s got it wrong. It ain’t because we’re all broke-ass poor. Guys have turned to homemade porn because produced porn is usually so BORING. I mean, really: jack for 3 minutes, suck for 5 minutes, rim for 2 minutes, anal for 8 minutes, and then a measly dribble shot. Come on ChiChi….

@ Winter, you should keep your mouth shut if you want that site to remain active and free of charge. You are STEALING porn. I don’t see why you would be dropping web address where you STEAL your porn. Trust me, it is stealing and if the porn companies decide to go after that website, they can.
