Canadian Soldiers In Amsterdam Anti-Gay Attack?
Two Twenty-Somethings May Be Jailed For Attacks

Dutch news sources say public prosecutors have their eyes on two allegedly violent Canadian soldiers:

The public prosecution department has asked the courts to jail a 22-year-old Canadian soldier for eight months for beating up a homosexual man in Amsterdam this spring. A second soldier, also 22, faces a six-week sentence. The attack sent out alarm signals about increasing violence against gay people.

We guess not all of Amsterdam's anti-gay attacks are instigated by Muslim immigrants, as some would like to believe.

(PS: Are we the only ones who thinks eight and six month sentences are a bit lenient?)

Yeah, the sentences are lenient - but that's Holland for ya. I'm sure their jails are nicer than my apaprtment building.

I'm wondering why the Canadian media hasn't picked up on this yet? Perhaps after Somalia they're still interested in hiding the violent nature of some of our troops?

Is there any other media coverage ANYWHERE on this? Seems pretty slim on detail - do we even know it was someone attacked BECAUSE he was gay, as opposed to someone WHO was gay was attacked for another reason? Want to know a bit more, so any other links shared much appreciated!

So, are not most sentences too lenient in these over liberal times. Children must not be smacked for fear of being charged with assault. We have lost our ability to reason the difference between a smack and cruelty and children are growing up thinking that slef will is their right. So called "sports" people demonstrate violent gestures and over the top one up-manship aggression and the more they do so the more we pay them. Left to me this 22 year old thug would get twnety years hard labour.
