CANCELED: Wanda Sykes Loses Her Show

After dismal ratings — tied directly to a pretty dismal format — Fox is canceling The Wanda Sykes Show. The New Adventures of Christine star wasn’t even beating the ratings of its predecessor MadTV.

The news arrives from the network upfronts, where media companies trot out the coming season’s offerings so advertisers can plan where to spend their cash. And while ABC let on about a few series it’s picking up, there’s no mention of Cheyenne Jackson’s It Takes A Village. Not yet.

It was only a matter of time. I tried to watch, but it just wasn’t very funny.

I love Wanda Sykes, but that show was awful.

The show wasn’t nearly as awful as some think. It had the potential to be quite brilliant. There were plenty of hysterical moments.

@John Raymond Barker: I definitely agree that the show had its great moments! It just seemed to have too many dead spots that dragged. I kept hoping she’d find something that worked, but she never quite did.

I don’t think she was ever very good. We need interesting gay people, not gay people who are famous simply because they’re gay or they know someone who knows a producer at Fox or whatever.

Wanda couldn’t quite locate her groove in interviewing guests on her show.

As a standup, she’s brilliant & she’s also a great talkshow guest (watching her & Leno or Craig Ferguson is always a blast). Being a comedian & a guest may involve different skills, I don’t know for sure. Maybe the lack of connection to a TV audiance was difficult, unlike the direct feedback she gets as a comedian or guest.

When she’s on the road, she almost always has a full house. She still will be making people laugh & think, but just not on TV. i wish the network could of found a better format for her & the show.

If u get a chance to see her live, it’s worth the money.

She never really had any very interesting people on her show. It lacked the vitality that her one woman shows had,not nearly as funny. Doesn’t surprise me the current show is being dropped. She can do better than that. Odd though that Fox would have aired it given its homophobic stance and right wing affiliation.

YEAH!!! Show sucks! Wanda was way to bigoted and focused on subtle prophesying instead of just being funny and entertaining. just had to ever wait a few minutes for her to say something racist or promote blacks who weren’t very funny. pretty sad she didn’t show much diversity beyond that.
