Candy, the best (and first) transversal style magazine, features trans model Connie Fleming giving First Lady Michelle Obama a run for her money as their “Candydate” of choice.
Shot for the mag’s fifth issue by Danielle Levitt and styled by bespectacled bowtie buff Brad Goreski, Connie represents a variation for the magazine, which has previously featured celebs on the cover including Chloe Sevigny, James Franco and most recently, Tilda Fucking Swinton.
Editor Luis Venegas explained the concept to Dazed Digital:
I especially love the cover story, which for the first time isn’t a super-popular star, but a fabulous, beautiful black transwoman channeling a politician who looks pretty much like Michelle Obama. I remember back in early 2007 when the Democratic Party’s nominees were narrowed down between two “controversial” stereotypes never before seen for presidency: a black man, Barack Obama; and a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton. At that time, I thought, ‘when will the time come when these archaic walls break down and the White House will be occupied by, for example, a black, transsexual woman?’ At that moment I decided someday I would toy with this idea on one of my covers of Candy. Connie Fleming is the model and she’s done a fabulous performance.
While Connie certainly looks great, Michelle’s ‘do is a bit more on point. It’s a known fact her hair hasn’t moved since the late-90s. But then again, those are federal follicles.
How about we take this to the next level?

I think she looks more like Omarosa Manigault than Michelle. Both are attractive women though!
