Can’t a Police Officer Spit A Gay Porn Rap On YouTube Without Getting Hauled In To Answer For It?

The supposedly rowdy Australian men seen in this video “were on the verge of arrest,” the Sydney Morning Herald reports, for getting all jocular and referring to police as “makin’ bacon.” But they were not arrested — they were joined, by Brisbane’s Constable David Jay. He delivered his own rap battle return with a line that rhymed “homo” and “watching gay porn in slow-mo.” Hah! Cue groups like PFLAG calling for disciplinary action: “If that tape makes it to the police hierarchy, he should be hauled over the coals because there’s absolutely no need for that. He should certainly be spoken to about it and it’s not acceptable language by anybody.” But other reports say Jay “won respect from hip-hop acolytes for his cool-headed handling of a raucous crowd of drunken MCs.” Probably also true! Full video below:

As we queers have learned, nothing endears adversaries more, than anti-gay slurs. Nothing unifies the world’s peoples more, than their hatred of us.

In the second linked article, they’re claiming he said hobo, rather than homo. His fellow officers have nicknamed him “Slim Shady”. How appropriate.

Fortitude Valley is a rough area of Brisbane. He did what he had to do to diffuse the situation. Do I like it? No, but since I live in the neighbourhood I know how rough it can be and he did the best he could.

If we lived in Australia we should be lucky to live at all. Bullying of gays and gay suicides is higher in Oz than in the US.

Awww God bless the Valley :) I was there just last Sunday for Halloween… managed to not get one threat or epitaph, even though I was wearing the shortiest shorts that ever did short…

It’s quite the dumpsville and bloody dangerous for twinkies like me. I doubt this cop should be sacked for it, perhaps just a reprimand?

So where is the problem here? He identified with the crowd, earned their respect and quickly turned around and used it to his advantage. That situation could have otherwise resulted in violence quickly. What he did is called good police work. Sure he said something others might find unpleasant, but he is a cop. Cops often have to communicate with language and attitudes that polite society find offensive. It would be different if he was insulting a gay person to their face. Who knows, he might even be gay himself. Whoever is complaining about his language needs to look at the bigger picture here… he is pretty cute though.. :)

Probably not the best choice of lyrics, but he lives to fight another day.

There are parts of Australia that are rough as guts, and whilst no one should have to put up with that shit, it’s certainly not a crime to exercise some self preservation skills.

Now if this had happened in Melbourne, Sydney or Adelaide… it’d be a different story probably.

If you were the victim of a gay hate crime in Brisbane, would you report it to THESE police? Knowing they won’t take it serious and might make a joke of it.

I think it’s funny, rhyming homo and slo-mo is pretty ingenious.

But seriously guys, are gay people really trying for the Most Easily Offended Minority award? Seems like that’s all I see on Qweerty (and other gay sites) anymore. How boring. And how empowering for any straight douchebag who enjoys watching the feathers fly…

@Jason Why do i see you commenting something negative about Australia all the time when an Australian topic is on the limelight. Australia is a multicultural, diverse, and gay-friendly country whom is WAY ahead of the US in terms of gay rights.Go get a life.

@Kev C Your figures are clearly distorted as you publish results from a research and just loop it up with the gay community. The US is far behind Australia in terms of gay-friendlyness and gay rights. You Yankees are just jealous of our lucky country.

I would like to agree with both Chris and Slobone….I think that he was difusing the situation that he was confronted with. Did you notice his little smirk at the end.
I think that people shouldn’t get their “panties in a twist” over this. At most he deserves a reprimand and some sensitivity training. He also looks that he is about 11 years old and who knows how long he has been on the job.

Er, Australia is a backward country where gays are segregated into tiny communities. Outside of these communities, it’s a very hostile place. No Australian district allows gay marriage or gay civil unions.

      In brief, Australia is backward.

@jason: “It is estimated that some 50,000 British convicts were sent to colonial America, representing perhaps one-quarter of all British emigrants during the 18th century” http://www.dinsdoc.com/butler-1.htm , besides most of ours were Irish nationalists, Unionists and people who did petty crimes like stole a loaf of bread. Besides, we don’t have a ban on gay marriage embedded in our constitutions, unlike America, and most people support gay rights, a vote on a ban on gay marriage would certainly be rejected (Menzies couldn’t even pass a ban on the Communist Party at the height of the Cold War). To base judgement on Australians because of some drunken Queenslanders and John Howard/Phillip Ruddock’s pollicies is insulting. Its common knowledge that both parties shrewdly identify a couple of marginal electorates with a few evangelicals which they need for power, that’s why Labor lost Melbourne to the Greens, and Richmond could even go to the Socialist Party in the State election in a couple of weeks.

To sum up my long post; we’re being fucked over by the Government, the opposition and the extreme minority Christian Lobby despite extreme majority public support, and their losing support because of it.

    • No. 22 · poiu

I think its a bit hippocritical to say we’re backward when everytime gay marriage has gone to a vote in the US; its lost, yet it consistantly gets over 50% (with up to 80% of under 35s, with the only minority support coming from the 55+ group at about 40%) in opinion polls; we’ve even had legislation introduced to get rid of the Howard/Ruddock/Rudd era policy and the increasing liklyhood of it being supported by the ALP (its probably going to get supported at the next ALP conference – where party policy is decided by the ALP (parties are a lot more diciplined here) – as well as support from various members of the Opposition (except of course the National/Country Party and the Chritian Lobby, who no one listnes to anymore).
Change here is happenning, and its happening fast.
Long Live Greens and the Hung Parliament for making the major paries do something for a change.

Why is it that whenever I see an anti nationalistic comment the reply to that comment is always something negative about the US? As if anyone saying anything even remotely intolerant is automatically an American? What makes you all assume Jason is from the US? I’m so sick of people thinking fighting bigotry with bigotry is effective. You don’t make the situation any better.
