Until the major sports networks, and regular news networks, actually cover this and delve into homophobia in sports nothing will change. I’m glad that these idiots on twitter speak their minds because it shows the country how homophobic and hate filled it is.

Unfortunately this type of stuff happens in most stadiums. I have heard the f-word thrown around a lot at games at Wrigley.

If this had happened after the result of a basketball game with black tweeters, this thread would have 2x the number of posts and would be filled with smug race-related comments and cynicism. Funny how homophobia doesn’t tend to strike up the same amount of ire and outrage when the perpetrators are young white guys. You know, the demographic that’s supposedly so much more open-minded and socially progressive today.
That being said, I honestly don’t take offense to this. Not really. Why? Because I’m not surprised. I see and hear homophobia on a semi-regular basis with people my age (33) and younger. Unlike others I haven’t allowed myself to be convinced that it’s died out and that the average Joe is okay with the gays because it’s 2012. Plus with this being online, it’s just par for the course.

@2eo: Awesome, thank you, you saved me time :P These pathetic tweeters think they can get away with their hate speech but we will prove them wrong. Only problem with me is that I’m not into Twitter so I don’t know how it all works, and right now it says the site is down =/

I like it when you post the names of their accounts, as someone who doesn’t use Twitter it makes it a lot easier to have them tracked down and frightened.
