Cartoonist Howard Cruse Flashes Back To Pride 1984

Howard Cruse is best known as the artist-writer behind the award-winning graphic novel Stuck Rubber Baby. But he also brought us the queer comic strip Wendel.

Cruse recently posted a panoramic strip he did waaaay back in 1984, when the advances the LGBT community have achieved probably seemed like a pipe dream. And yet, some things remain the same.

Cruse writes:

Time-Machine Time! In 1984 a June installment of my Wendel comic strip portrayed the thoughts of Wendel, Ollie, and other at that year’s Gay Pride rally. The strip was actually a repeating panoramic loop (as I’ve emphasized by rearranging the panels end-to-end online) with but one mildly prescient exception to the repetition. Happy LGBT Pride Month to all!

You can see the whole strip in detail on Cruse’s website.
