While we're on the subject of beating dead horses

John McCain's campaign released yet another statement about Madonna's ill-fitting comparison between their candidate and Adolf Hitler.

Said spokesperson Taylor Griffin:

It's a disappointing and vulgar attack on John McCain, who has devoted his life to the cause of freedom and the fight against tyranny. But, it's not surprising that Barack Obama and his fellow celebrities stick together.

Oy. We thought that moment had passed. Or is it past? Regardless - while a clever jab, Griffin, you're so early August!

As he prepares to accept his party's nomination in Denver this week, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama released a new video taking on John McCain's admittedly poor view of the economy. The ad, "Don't Know Much," offers a clever cover of the song by the same name.

The Democratic Party hopes to project a united front at their convention in Denver, which begins today. Not all Democrats, however, are backing the presumptive nominee, Barack Obama.

Gay media honcho Paul Colichman, a former Hillary Clinton backer who owns Regent Entertainment, Out and The Advocate, tells Page Six that he's so disappointed with Obama's gay marriage stance that he refuses to shell out the dough for the Senator's campaign:

[Colichman] said he finally dealt with his disappointment over Clinton's defeat last week and came around to Obama.

"I thought, 'Get over yourself!' I had literally written out a check to the Obama campaign. And then I saw him in front of an evangelical group in Anaheim," he said.

Before Rick Warren at the Saddleback Civil Forum, both Obama and McCain defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

"I thought, 'Wow! He just threw the gay community under the bus,'" Colichman said. "My partner looked over at me, and we tore up the check."

"If we always vote for the lesser of two evils, if we accept their crumbs and platitudes, if we write checks to candidates who don't stand up for us, aren't we being self-destructive?" he argues.

Colichman forgets, of course, that Clinton also defines marriage should be between a man and a woman. She and Obama both back civil unions.

McCain Offers Immediate Attack

It's official!

Barack Obama announced last night that he's picked Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his running mate. Biden, who previously attempted to throw the press off track, brings 35 of Senatorial experience to Obama's ticket. And, thanks to his seat on the Foreign Relations Committee, first hand international policy knowledge, which will help even Obama's odds against John McCain.

"In an unusual move, Hillary Clinton's staff is creating a 40-member "whip team" at the Denver Democratic convention to ensure that her supporters don't engage in embarrassing anti-Obama demonstrations during the floor vote on her nomination, according to people familiar with the planning." Yes, but can they quell outdoor rallies? [Politico]

Barack Obama's gays are getting more involved than ever! Scads of journalists and political types have joined forces for the straight-forwardly entitled LGBT For Obama, which works as both a blog and a fundraising tool. Not only will people like Hilary Rosen and Andrew Sullivan been offering their praise, but regular Joes can use the site to funnel money to Obama, thus giving us all a better view of how many gay dollars the candidate's garnered. You should check it out. [LGBT For Obama]

We hate to start the day off with bad news, but we must give a shout out to Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who died last night after suffering an aneurysm this week.

Homo-Journo Ryan J. Davis Sounds Off

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but looking at the political landscape, Hillary Clinton is the most practical choice for Vice President.

Adding her name to the ticket would unite and energize the remaining Democrats who are slow to warm up to Senator Barack Obama. A recent poll of convention delegate showed that nearly 30% would like to see Mrs. Clinton as VP, by far the largest bloc. With the former First Lady on the ticket, all evidence points to united party and a Democratic victory in November.

» Pulling Ahead?

"In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday." A poll from right-leaning Rasmussen Reports, meanwhile, puts Obama ahead by three points, but only one when you include "leaners". [Reuters and Rasmussen]

» Lovin' Obama…

"Sixty-eight percent of [LGBT voters] polled between August 1 and 7 prefer Obama. 10 percent favor McCain, while three percent prefer the Green Party's Ralph Nader and one percent back Libertarian candidate and Georgia Congressman Bob Barr. Three percent chose "Other," while 15 percent remain undecided." McCain's ten percent's far less than President Bush's 2000 and 2004 numbers, when he had 23% of the gay vote. That's sad for McCain. "Senator Barack Obama has all but settled on his choice for a running mate and set an elaborate rollout plan for his decision, beginning with an early morning alert to supporters, perhaps as soon as Wednesday morning, aides said… Going into the final days, Obama was said to be focused mainly on three candidates: Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia and Senator Joseph Biden Jr. of Delaware." Said Founder Now Supports Obama, However Impotently

The ManHunt/McCain Scandal takes a new turn this fine, sticky Saturday!

For those of you not paying attention, ManHunt co-founder Jonathan Crutchley came under fire this week for contributing the maximum donation to Republican presidential hopeful John McCain's campaign.

Incensed by the businessman's conservative connections, several ManHunt members canceled their subscriptions and, fearing more backlash, fellow co-founder Larry Basile asked Crutchley to step down as Chairman of the Board. Crutchley agreed..

Which brings us to today…
