Veterans.
Actress and self-professed gay icon Tori Spelling has confirmed rumors that she’ll join the cast of CW’s Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off. Fellow alum Jennie Garth will also be a part of the fun, which gives us absolutely no hope for this potentially disastrous televisual adventure. This does not mean, of course, that we won’t watch. Madness.
Here’s some sorta gay chatter: “Which young star — who plays gay on his hot TV show — has a taste for significantly older women?” On another, possibly unrelated note, did anyone notice last night that newly gayed Erik on Gossip Girl made nary an appearance at his mother’s engagement party, or whatever that fancy event was? Plot device out! [NYDN] Respond» |
“Poor Woman.”
Barbara Walters is brilliant! Rather than prolonging the tabloid conflict with former colleague Star Jones, the legendary journalist describes her as a “poor woman” and goes on to say, “I think she’s suffering now… I’m not going to be a part of that.” Sounds like a sympathetic comment, of course, but we all know she’s really just calling Jones a loser. Rejection.
El Salvadoran national Joaquín Ramirez - an HIV positive gay man - is set to return home Thursday after the Canadian government denied his asylum plea. Ramirez alleges that three federal cops beat and raped him prior to his great escape and he fears retribution if sent back. “…I am sure that I will be assassinated if I go back. There have been four men who have come to my sister’s home in a car and have parked outside her house. They have asked my little niece if I had come back yet and they have also called my sister and told her that they were going to kill me.” Canadian officials reportedly doubted Ramirez’s claims. Passage…
We all thought it was dead, but an Arizona ban on gay marriage found new life yesterday. The bill had been languishing in the House since April, but squeezed by yesterday after two Democratic representatives - Jack Brown and Pete Rios - lent their weight to a largely Republican bloc. The measure now moves to the Senate, which means many homo eyes will be one Republican presidential hopeful John McCain, who previously used his Senatorial powers to vote for a gay marriage ban. Rubbish.
While we’re on the subject of conservative trash: “…Multiple studies have established that homosexual conduct, especially among males, is considerably more hazardous to one’s health than a lifetime of chain smoking.” [Modern Ghana] 3 Responses» |
Hyperbole.
We all know anti-gay bullying laws are a lightning rod for conservative fire, but Star Tribune’s Katherine Kersten takes the cake: “…What if that curriculum is really a disguise for a very different agenda brought to Minneapolis by the Human Rights Campaign, a Washington, D.C.-based gay and transgender advocacy group?… In other words, what if anti-bullying advocates themselves turn out to be the bullies?” And that’s not the half of this woman’s spiteful garbage, which spurred an AfterEllen reader to launch a campaign against Kersten. That’ll learn her! [Star Tribune and AfterEllen] Respond» |
So It Begins…
Testimony begins today in the divorce trial of Jim and Dina McGreevey. The trouble began, of course, when former New Jersey Governor Jim came out, thus stoking Dina’s wrath. She alleges that her soon-to-be ex-hubby committed fraud by entering into a straight marriage. He claims, of course, that she knew he liked boys, because the couple had a number of encounters with McGreevey’s male driver. Expect loads of finger pointing and salacious testimony over the next few days. [MSNBC] Respond» |
Bob Barr In.
Former GOP Congressman Bob Barr made good on threats and threw his hat into the presidential arena. No, Barr’s not challenging John McCain. The Georgia-based politico’s gunning for the Libertarian nomination, which will be decided Memorial Day weekend. There’s debate over whether Barr would hurt McCain, the Democratic nominee or simply not matter. One thing’s for sure: he ain’t winning. [LA Times] 3 Responses» |
