Charlene Cothran
Protest For Ex-Gay Publisher

Charlene Cothran’s back in action!

The “ex-gay” former Venus publisher has been hard at work on an inflammatory new project: a speech entitled “How Homosexuality Destroys Families, Not Just Values.” Sounds like a real winner.

Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network will protest Cothran’s appearance on March 13th. As a publisher of Venus magazine, a publication formerly oriented towards African American lesbians, about a year ago Cothran apparently decided that the grass (and money) was greener on the Republican right, and has since become a tool of their movement and a professional gay hater. Her presentation, which is advertised as “free and open to the public,” will be at 7 PM, Thursday, March 13th at … Continued…

Ex-Gay Publisher Up On 700

Charlene Cothran’s been making new friends since disavowing her lesbianism and turning her fag-rag, Venus, into an ex-gay mouthpiece.

The controversial publisher just appeared on Pat Robertson’s The 700 Club to spread her good, no-longer-gay word. In addition to explaining her celibate lifestyle, Cothrene explains how she’s still involved in the gay rights movement. Instead of furthering gay visibility, acceptance and legal rights, however, Cothrene’s trying to convert the queers: My mission now is to educate and turn people away from the homosexual lifestyle simply by presenting the truth. We simple want to have people to question what they’ve learned through the pages of Venus over the last thirteen years.
We would love to ignore the first thirteen years of your career, Cothrene, but we’ve got this pesky thing called a conscience. It really gets in the way of selling out our queer comrades. Good thing “God” took yours when he “saved” you…

Watch the nauseating video, after the jump. Oh, and be sure to read Good As You’s dissection of the despicable Cothrene.

Kelly Loves/Hates “The Gays”

Kelly Rowland’s attempting to make another comeback with July’s Ms. Kelly. Homo-journo Clay Cane snagged a sitdown with the former Destiny’s Child crooner.

No surprise Cane - who’s previously grilled ex-gay publisher Charlene Cothran - takes their conversation in a decidedly queer direction. The entire operation, however, nearly gets bogged down by semantics when Cane asks about Rowland’s reaching out to the gays:
I hate the way that sounds, “the gays.” People are people! But, you know what, Destiny’s Child, we have a big gay fan base and they have been very supportive. I have friends that are gay and they’re like, “Ma, you need to go to the clubs and come visit the kids.” So, I’m just like, okay, I thought it would possibly be me going there once and just see what would happen—but I had a good time! Here in New York I always go to this one place called Splash and I have the best time! Cane goes on to describe Splash - a veritable petrie dish of horrible faggotry - as “cool”. Poor thing needs to get out more.
