With only six primaries left - and Barack Obama's resounding lead over rival Hillary Clinton - many people have basically declared the delegate selection over. That, however, would be premature.

While the majority of the states and overseas regions' delegate numbers have been determined, most of them must still decide which individuals will head to Denver this August. have ruled which candidate gets how many delegates, most of them still must decide who will head to Denver this August. And, like so many things in this election, there's loads of drama surrounding the process. Infighting, allegations, personal homophobia and potentially impotent DNC "gay delegate goals" may derail the whole process.

Hillary Clinton has long been a gay ally. Who could forget how the former First Lady invited gays into the White House, tried to set up gay administration staffers and marched in New York City's gay pride parade? No wonder so many gay people are throwing their vote behind the Senator from New York.

What would possess a gay person, then, to vote for Barack Obama, a fairly unknown candidate from Illinois? Our editor recently sat down with three of Obama's key gay campaigners to figure out what makes them tick and tock for Obama's presidential clock.

The presidential race hits critical mass this week as candidates prepare for Super Tuesday. Semantics aside, the Democratic contenders - Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton - are hoping to boost their standing by nabbing former rival John Edwards' gay supporters. And Obama seems to be in the lead.

Last Thursday, the White House held a conference call with conservative Christians. Lilly Tomlin was most definitely not there to say “One Ringy-Dingy.” The subject of the conference call was Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. James Dobson, one of the so-called Christians, later made cryptic comments hinting he had received assurances that Miers would dance a stiff right-wing trot.

The revelation has caused Eric Stern, Executive Director of the National Stonewall Democrats, to hit the nail on its manicured edge. “The Republican Party’s reliance on the corrupt counsel of anti-gay activists is poisoning American policy with toxic cronyism.”

Stern also urged Bush to meet with LGBT representatives at this time, and said: “In almost five years in office, the Bush Administration has failed to meet with one gay family over our concerns, yet they continue to push anti-gay policy as a reward for regular meetings with anti-gay activists.”

Miers record, meanwhile, reveals a perfect London fog regarding her positions on issues of the day. When the fog lifts, one sees she supported Texas sodomy statutes. We don’t know why a woman would be against sodomy if she’s never even tried it, but we aren’t betting money on Bush meeting with gay groups.
