McCain’s 2013? We Doubt It.
John McCain released a new ad campaign today depicting the year 2013, four years into his potential, admittedly presumptuous presidency. We have to tell you, the commercial plays a trailer for a utopian 24. The narrator sounds an awful lot like Dennis Haysbert, who played David Palmer, America’s first black president. Smart move, McCain! But, unfortunately for you, we’re not convinced. |
Gay Marriage: The Many Reactions
The California Supreme Court’s historic ruling on gay marriage has already turned into the hottest news item. And, natural, the reactions are coming in. Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger kept his promise and vowed to let by-gones be gay bygones: “I respect the Court’s decision and as Governor, I will uphold its ruling. Also, as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling.” PFLAG’s proud as pie, of course, but mama Molleen Matsumura had an especially touching - and press friendly! - response, “California has embraced our children and affirmed our families… My husband and I are proud to now live in a state where our daughter’s union will be equal to our own.” So cute! But, there are some people raining on the parade, so to speak… |
Gay Marriage Victory In California!
Boy, oh boy! Things are probably hectic in California right now, where the Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that Proposition 22, a ban on gay marriage, is unconstitutional. The bad news is that the court also acknowledged that San Francisco “acted unlawfully by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in the absence a judicial determination that CA statutes limited marriage to union between a man and a woman are unconstitutional.” The 2004 marriages [Note: a commenter correctly pointed out that those 2004 marriages have already been wiped clean. Thanks, CNN. You jerks.] |

Edwards Officially Endorses Obama
The rumors were true: former candidate John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama this evening, speaking of the Senator’s “bold leadership.” The speech, staged in Michigan, effectively rained on Hillary Clinton’s West Virginia parade. Speaking of raining, the Clinton campaign had to apologize to a West Virginia voter today after a campaign caller, who had thought the person picked up, inadvertently left a fairly offensive message. Hi. Hello? This is crazy. This person hung up. Maybe they think it’s a bill collector. I bet it is. West Virginians are poor. Ouch. 61 Responses» |
Gay Democrats Must Move Beyond Impotent Delegate “Goals”
We’re in the home stretch of primary season, but that doesn’t mean all’s well in the Democratic party. Aside from Hillary Clinton’s commendable tenacity, and the din of her vocal, though dwindling supporters, there’s a new tussle a brewing: the delegate selection tussle. Many state parties have shown resistance to the Democratic National Committee’s Shay Amendment, a measure that set so-called “gay goals.” These numeric marks were set to help each state or territory include gay people in their overall delegate camp. Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out quite as planned. And, if you haven’t read part one, you’d better catch up. |
Jesse Metcalfe Not Gay, Will Hurt Those Who Say Otherwise
Jesse Metcalfe doesn’t have a very big funny bone. The soon-to-be washed up actor went a bit mad after blogger Perez Hilton joked about his potential homosexuality. [Says Hilton] “That was quite negative energy. He was drunk and said he wanted me dead. I was quite shocked. I’d only joked that he might be gay, what’s the big deal?” Perhaps Metcalfe’s simply trying to emulate his new butch image. Or maybe Hilton hit a nerve… 22 Responses» |
Gay Pol Jim Neal’s Not Bitter
Jim Neal’s Senatorial dreams were dashed last week when he lost to fellow Democrat Kay Hagan. The road to Washington wasn’t the most level, especially considering Neal’s relative obscurity and the fact that Hagan won the support of party leaders, who apparently worried Neal couldn’t take on Republican Elizabeth Dole. While some would be sore about their loss, Neal’s taking it all in stride. He hasn’t yet decided what the future holds, but this homo-politicos sure of one thing: he made - and will continue to make - an impact. Neal and our editor chatted yesterday about the candidate’s loss, gay group Human Rights Campaign’s non-endorsement and why this year will change America’s electoral process forever. |

Will Gay Delegate War Spoil The Race?
With only six primaries left - and Barack Obama’s resounding lead over rival Hillary Clinton - many people have basically declared the delegate selection over. That, however, would be premature. While the majority of the states and overseas regions’ delegate numbers have been determined, most of them must still decide which individuals will head to Denver this August. have ruled which candidate gets how many delegates, most of them still must decide who will head to Denver this August. And, like so many things in this election, there’s loads of drama surrounding the process. Infighting, allegations, personal homophobia and potentially impotent DNC “gay delegate goals” may derail the whole process. Editor Andrew Belonsky offers part one of an extensive two-part analysis, after the jump… |

Gays For McCain.
From The Editor: I heard something interesting while in Philadelphia this weekend. A gay man mentioned that he and many of his friends - all of whom support Hillary Clinton - plan on voting for John McCain if Barack Obama gets the Democratic nomination. Like so many others, these voters don’t think Obama has the experience necessary to run the country. So, readers, this has me wondering: are there any other men or women out there who plan to back McCain’s campaign if Clinton loses the nomination? And, if so, why? 165 Responses» |

Robert Gant Makes Us Melt
Robert Gant’s a rarity in Hollywood. First of all, he went to law school. Second, he’s openly gay. And, as testament to our changing times, continues to get work. The handsome 39-year old will soon appear in the here! network’s Kiss Me Deadly, on which Gant plays the first gay spy whose post-espionage life goes haywire after the return of an old friend, Shannen Doherty. The movie will hopefully be the first in a series, but Gant’s not sitting on his honches. He’s also just wrapped Special Delivery, a Lifetime movie in which Lisa Edelstein plays his love interest. Yes, a gay man’s playing straight: a growing - and welcome - in Hollywood. Gant recently sat down with our editor to discuss the ins-and-outs of being homo in Hollywood, not being perfect and why Gant loves his life. |
