Houston-based River Oaks Imaging and Diagnostic settled a wrongful termination suit filed by 27-year old Izza Lopez, who alleges the radiology chain rescinded a job offer after discovering her transgender status. The parties will not discuss the terms, but a Lambda Legal spokesperson remarked, "I can tell you the case has been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of both parties." Human Rights Campaign claims to be fighting for trans rights, but their actions in Houston recently have some people wondering whether they mean it. A number of protesters had gathered will gather at the non-profit's April 12 dinner in the Texan town and got a bit a surprise when HRC called the cops on them and will have to face the cops. The organization's leaders also apparently instructed hotel staff to call in the troops if trans protesters started passing out opposition flyers. [Bilerico]

Finally Broke Down After 2006 Attack?

Hate crime survivor David Ritcheson spent the last years of his life fighting hate crimes. The Houston-based activist lived to tell about a gruesome attack by some neo-Nazis. Joe.My.God elaborates on the 2006 crime:

[Then 16-year old]Ritcheson was beaten and sodomized with a patio umbrella by two men shouting "White power!" Ritcheson barely survived the attack and underwent over 20 surgeries over the last two years. One of the men who attacked him received life in prison, the other got 90 years.
