Jesse Metcalfe Not Gay, Will Hurt Those Who Say Otherwise
Jesse Metcalfe doesn’t have a very big funny bone. The soon-to-be washed up actor went a bit mad after blogger Perez Hilton joked about his potential homosexuality. [Says Hilton] “That was quite negative energy. He was drunk and said he wanted me dead. I was quite shocked. I’d only joked that he might be gay, what’s the big deal?” Perhaps Metcalfe’s simply trying to emulate his new butch image. Or maybe Hilton hit a nerve… 23 Responses» |

Redundant?
The gay watchdogs over at GLAAD gave gay news rag The Advocate a media award for “Best Overall Coverage,” thus dashing the hopes of Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek and other mainstream magazines. Now, no disrespect to The Advocate, but they should inherently have great gay coverage, which translates to an advantage. This is like giving the Pope an award for “most prayerful,” or something. Regardless, congratulations! [Gay.com] Respond» |
Veterans.
Actress and self-professed gay icon Tori Spelling has confirmed rumors that she’ll join the cast of CW’s Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off. Fellow alum Jennie Garth will also be a part of the fun, which gives us absolutely no hope for this potentially disastrous televisual adventure. This does not mean, of course, that we won’t watch. Limp…
Imagine our titillated surprise when we heard Playboy, which has made a trillion bajillion dollars on tits and vagina, will soon offer 20 hours of gay porn to Time Warner customers. Exciting, right? Well, not quite: “Each program in the package ‘may depict erect genitalia, male-on-male fellatio and simulated or implied sexual intercourse.’ But, according to [a company] memo, content shall not depict actual anal penetration, licking or anal sexual play of any kind.’ Male ejaculation and forced bondage also will be off limits.” [LA Observed via GNW] 4 Responses» |

Washington Launches Image War
An old, largely forgotten battle reignites this morning. Former Grey’s Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington, who left the show after calling costar TR Knight a “faggot,” has filed a complaint against ABC for using his picture in a recent episode of the popular show about doctors and their problems. [Washington] claims the producers failed to get consent over the use of the picture. His attorney, Peter Nelson, sent notices to ABC and SAG indicating the alleged inappropriate use of Washington’s image, the actor’s manager Howard Bragman said. “They have the rights of the character to advance the story, but not the image,” he said, adding that what he expects out of this debacle is a … Continued… 7 Responses» |

Jackie Warner To Be Dehyrdated
Lesbian fitness lady Jackie Warner is feeling the wrath of disapproving sponsors. Warner and one of her staff came under fire last week after having a laugh about a client’s breast, which was made worst when people learned that the breasts in question had beat breast cancer. The incident led many homos to label her a “negative icon.” Now Gatorade’s pulling out from Warner’s Bravo show, Work Out: We have notified Bravo we no longer wish to be associated with The Work Out [sic] and will be pulling our commercials. Furthermore, we will not renew our sponsorship of this program in subsequent seasons. |

The Advocate’s Thomas Roberts piece inspired a list of the out, not-so-out and even more not-so-out homo-journos. Hey, ABC’s Jeffrey Kofmann, call us! [The Sword] Respond» |
Expansion.
Dallas-based Gay List Daily will be expanding its operations to include New York, Los Angeles and even a more general “national edition.” For those unfamiliar with the List, we’ll let the press release do the explaining: [The List is] a swank e-publication ‘dedicated to making trendy gays even more trendy and gay.” For further reference, please see Bruce LaBruce’s Otto; Or, Up With Dead People. Thomas Roberts On Media’s Hard, Queer Conditions
What would you do if hunky homo-journo Thomas Roberts hiked you out into the wilderness? Whatever it is, we bet you didn’t think “Interview him!” Well, that’s what The Advocate’s Sean Kennedy did - fool! - and got the 35-year old to open up on about his very public exit from CNN. Contrary to rumors, says Roberts, he was not fired suspiciously close to coming out. His contract was over and, you know, he had personal shit. The boys then get into the reality of news television - and how it’s too conservative for an openly gay anchor. In fact, Kennedy shares some interesting insight into his own experience trying to nail Roberts. … Continued… 11 Responses» |

Beautiful Women Blind Our Gay Ways
We Queertians may dig dudes, but we’re all about beautiful women. Yes, women - not girls, not chicks, not babes. Women. Our colleague Cord Jefferson explains: The problem with the term “beautiful girl” is that girls are rarely, if ever, beautiful. Girls are pretty and girls are cute — and that’s fine because there’s a time and place for cute (the age 16 and prom, respectively) — but they’re not beautiful. Women are beautiful. Women are sexy. Now, prepare yourself for some of the most beautiful, sexy, vagina-possessing specimens this side of Uranus… 3 Responses» |

Azerbaijani Media Plays “Gay” Sequel
Azerbaijan’s state-owned media’s making another play for the homos. Or, rather, imagined homos. The post-Soviet nation grabbed a surprisingly few headlines last month after (allegedly) trying to discredit journalist Agil Khalil by claiming he’s a gay. Khalil, who works for opposition-connected newspaper Azadlig, began writing about how members of the ruling party, New Azerbaijan Party had been selling state-owned property for private funds. Soon after the reports, Khalil was beaten and then later stabbed. State prosecutors claimed his gay lover stabbed him and even produced a shoddily edited video as “evidence” of the mens’ tussle. Khalil denies those claims. Now the same tricks are being pulled on Ali Karimli, leader of opposition party Popular Front of Azerbaijan… |

Some New York-based bent blogs take center stage in this week’s Edge NY. Here’s what drag legend Lady Bunny says about the Big Apple’s big gay blogosphere: “The mainstream media is so full of lies and distortions that we need the unfiltered information which comes from some of these blogs” she said. “Unfortunately too many gay men have the body of Gods and the brains of 15-year-old school girls. So I try to mix in some politics with more entertainment-oriented posts to trick them into caring about issues other than Jennifer Aniston’s new hair style.” [Edge NY] 10 Responses» |
