Denton Mulls Diller, Death Wish
Media mogul Barry Diller and wifey Diane von Furstenberg made an appearance at Madonna’s celeb-filled fuck fest last night. While we’re sure the glamorous couple had some chuckles, made some memories and may have possibly helped Malawian children (or Kabbalah?), none of those niceties concern us - or Nick Denton. |

Did Nick Denton Drive Staffer Out?
Gay media mogul Nick Denton’s master plan seems to be crashing down. The Gawker founder stepped in yesterday as managing editor and touted his site’s brave new direction. Unfortunately his public cries didn’t match one staffer’s personal experience: media reporter Richard Morgan says he quit after just one day. Morgan questions Denton’s “vision”: [Denton] is erratic. There is no vision beyond page views.” Morgan also claims his short-lived boss is “obsessed” with the gay mafia. But, really, who isn’t? Denton contests Morgan’s take: Richard Morgan didn’t so much quit as splutter out. We did manage to get two publishable posts out of him before that happened. I wish him luck at a more … Continued… Respond» |

Nick Denton Steps In Gawker
Gay media mogul Nick Denton’s getting back to his Gawker roots. NY Times reports that Denton will be filling in as his flagship website’s managing editor: Mr. Denton…will become the managing editor, at least on a temporary basis, of the prominent New York media blog on Jan. 2, according to three employees who requested anonymity because the move has not been announced. Asked about the new position, Mr. Denton declined to comment. The decision may indicate Mr. Denton’s desire to have a more direct role in his first blog. On Nov. 30, immediately after three of Gawker’s top editors quit, Gawker published a job listing for a managing editor. Denton’s apparently … Continued… Respond» |

BigHead DC Releases Lott’s Gay Lover “Emails”
In an effort to clear his journalistic name, Rob Capriccioso published the alleged emails between him and Trent Lott’s rumored lover, Benjamin Nicholas. Capriccioso claims, of course, that the long-lasting Senator Lott retired yesterday because he feared being outed as a boy renter. While Lott didn’t address the gay gossip, Nicholas flat-out denied being involved with Lott. There’s no telling whether or not Capriccioso fabricated the aforementioned emails, for they’re nothing more than typed up text, rather than screen snaps. Among the scintillating and dubious details, however, comes “news” that it was Gawker, not prime suspect Hustler, that originally contacted Nicholas about the Lott scandal. “Nicholas” writes: I was contacted by Gawker this morning ([Nick] Denton is a friend of mine). He’s hot to get an exclusive interview about the possible relationship between the two of us, but I politely declined. As I said before, Lott has quite a bit on his plate right now and I don’t really want to add fuel to the embers. Too late. Despite not wanting to go on record yesterday, Nicholas reportedly sent Capriccioso the following missive this morning: “Sen. Lott and I have no current affiliation with one another. I’m sure he would appreciate no further scrutiny.” Speaking of scrutiny: “no current affiliation”? Read the entire exchange, after the jump… |

Blogs 2005: So Gay!
We refuse to utter that horrible “B” word around here. You know, “blogosphere.” But we were compelled to list some of the gayest things in the world of blogs from 2005. There were many, but these take the big, pink, wedding cake. 5. Towleroad Does Brokeback. We don’t care if anyone tires of Andy Towle’s Brokeback Mountain coverage. We think it is just the reason why blogs kick butt. He has been meticulous in his coverage and we are certain more than one person in the “real” media has used his site as a resource. 4. Logo Does Blogs. Logo, the MTV gay network, actually made television personalities out of gay bloggers this year. Bloggers on TV? We know, a scary thought. But Andy, Perez, the Malcontent, and even our very own Bradford all snagged a spot. Now if we only knew who had the highest ratings. 3. Jossip Does Queerty. We know we already said we were the Coming Out story of the year, but this is our list and we’ll do what we want with it. Yes, we deserve to be on the So Gay! 2005 list of Blogs because, well, because we say so. The Internet got a little gayer this year. We take full responsibility. 2. Yahoo Does Gawker. Yahoo made it clear that it believes in the importance of blogs when it struck a deal this year with Nick Denton’s Gawker Media. The deal sees Gawker content on Yahoo News. A bit short of the Weblogs Inc./AOL merger, it still makes us smile Cheshire smiles. The thought of Gawker’s content appearing on mainstream news channels is hilarious. And now the #1 gay blog event of the year after the jump. |
