Robinson: Gays Aren’t Ill, Just Sinners

Iris Robinson needs to learn to shut her mouth. The N. Ireland politician raised eyebrows last month when she came out against the gays. Robinson has since become the butt of many-a-joke - as well as a campaign to unseat her - and, quite frankly, she’s pissed. No, not because people are mad at her, but because they’re twisting her words, she claims: Stormont Health committee chair Iris Robinson last night accused her political rivals of twisting her comments on homosexuality and denied she believed it was a mental disorder.

Mrs Robinson said: “People have attempted to suggest that I indicated that homosexuality was a mental health issue. Nothing could be further from … Continued…

Sticking It To Craig, Vitter

Republicans Larry Craig and David Vitter made headlines last week after cosponsoring a Senatorial act “protecting” marriage from the vile homosexual beasts.

This is hilarious, of course, because the men both had extramarital excursions last year. Seizing the absurd moment, Patriot Boy mocked up these faux ads mocking the hypocritical politicians.

Brilliant!

Gay Copper Settles Discrimination Suit

A queer California copper will be sitting pretty pretty soon.

Twenty-nine year old Adam Bereki settled with Huntington Beach’s police department after agreeing to shelf a discrimination lawsuit. Bereki originally alleged that his peers often took the piss about his homosexuality. And he didn’t like it, obviously: Bereki joined the force in 2001 and alleged in the suit that his colleagues frequentlyharassedd him for five years over his sexuality. The suit contends the incidents included someone placing a gay escort ad in Bereki’s locker and peers making comments that he only handles gay sex crimes and suggesting that he was infected with HIV.

“It seems from this case that a gay in the cop … Continued…

Pelosi Simply Adores Gay Marriage

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently sat down to gush about gay marriage, which, if her enthusiasm is any indication, she thinks is just the best thing ever.

While she’s proud of her home state of California’s decision to give same-sex love the green light, she’s very firm in her belief that nuptials should remain a state-based issues. She’s hopeful, however, that younger generations will stamp out institutional discrimination and squash down anti-gay marriage laws.

Gotta love that optimism!

Right Wing Activists Arrested At Bulgarian Gay Pride

Bulgaria’s bent boys and girls came out to show their pride this weekend. Unfortunately for them, however, a group of anti-gay activists, most of them skinheads, also took to the streets, but with an entirely different mission: destruction. Eighty-eight people have been arrested for trying to attack participants in Bulgaria’s first-ever gay pride march, the interior ministry said Sunday.

They include Nationalist Union leader Boyan Rasate, who faces legal proceedings for hooliganism, the ministry said, after he launched a campaign against Saturday’s march and urged people to openly resist it.

The march came under attack from nationalists and skinheads who were seen booing the small procession and throwing rocks, firecrackers and at least one petrol … Continued…

Gay Pride Of Yesteryear

What better way to prepare for gay pride weekend than by reliving prides past? The fellas over at The Sword collected some killer footage of vintage queens doing their thing in the days of yore. Above you’ll find a clip from San Francisco’s “Eight Annual Gay Freedom Day Parade,” which went down way back in 1979, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. You can see one in the background - a big purple beast.

Chace and Ed Gay Lovers?

Are Gossip Girl cast mates - and real life roomies - Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick are secret gay lovers? That’s the alleged word: We’ve been contacted by entertainment reporters - within days of each other - from the NY Post and the NY Daily News.

They both wanted to share a juicy piece of info - too juicy to print, they said.

Seems like on-set sources, which the pubs tell us are reliable, have told each paper that Chace Crawford and Gossip Girl co-star and real-life roommate Ed Westwick are in a relationship and not trying to hide it, at least on set.

Both NY papers tell us that Chace and Ed were recently seen … Continued…

Right Rains On Bulgarian Pride

Bulgaria’s gay boys and girls hoped to have their inaugural pride this year. But, as happens, the religious right’s raining on their parade: Bulgaria’s influential Orthodox Church on Friday called on authorities to ban the country’s first ever gay pride march.

The march, planned for Saturday, has already been moved by from a downtown area of the capital, Sofia, to a remote park after municipal authorities city security concerns.

The church argued the event would undermine the country’s Christian traditions.

“Bulgarian society needs healthy, strong and moral individuals to build new life on the indestructible foundation of faith, prayer, repentance, honor, Christian culture and morals,” a statement said. Like a broken record, those people…

Canada’s Young Gays Have Trials, Tribulations

Despite being progressive on gay rights - and allowing gay marriage - young Canadian queers still face hardships: In the first national survey on homophobia in Canadian schools, released last month by Egale Canada, participating LGBTQ teens overwhelmingly said they’re not treated as equals in the classroom. More than two-thirds, for example, reported feeling unsafe at school based on their sexuality, as opposed to one in five straight participants.

More than half of LGBTQ participants reported being verbally harassed, about half said they had mean rumours spread about them, and a quarter reported being physically harassed.

Although there are some positive social changes, like Canadians gaining gay marriage rights in 2005, the teen survey results … Continued…

Thousands Come Out For J’Lem Gay Pride

Gay pride went off without a hitch today in Jerusalem, where an estimated 3,000 people came out to celebrate same-sex loving. But, being a holy city and all, there were also a fair amount of protesters on the streets:
At a counter-protest in one of Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox neighbourhoods several hundred men gathered wearing ash on their foreheads and burlap sacks over their black suits in a Biblical ritual of repentance.

Some demonstrators held holy books, rocked back and forth and prayed, while others raised banners in English reading “Shame,” “The Supreme Court is destroying the Holy City” and “Don’t sodomise Jerusalem.” In addition to gay rights activists … Continued…

Anti-Gay Amendment May Not Be Dead In Arizona

Gay activists celebrated yesterday afternoon after Arizona’s Senate failed to pass an anti-gay marriage measure. With the failure, many assumed that the proposed ban wouldn’t make November’s ballot. Unfortunately, they may have spoken too soon: The thirty-member chamber voted 14-11 to place a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage onto the ballot. But since the Arizona constitution requires that a majority of the members elected must approve the measure, sixteen votes are needed for passage.

When supporters of the ban realized that they didn’t have enough votes — Sen. Karen Johnson (R-Mesa) had gone on vacation — Sen. Linda Gray (R-Phoenix) switched her vote in a procedural move to allow her to bring the … Continued…

NY Senate Extends Family Court For Abused Homos

New York state proved its progressive chops once again!

Just weeks after Governor David Paterson declared that the Empire State will honor out-of-state gay nuptials, the Senate voted 61-0 today to extend the family court law to include the queers. New York City’s Anti-Violence Project’s press release, which we’ve included after the jump, provides some more details: The bill, waiting to be signed into law, represents an important change from the current law, which only allows people related by blood, marriage or a child in common to obtain civil orders of protection. The new law will also bring New York in line with every other state in the U.S. that already protects victims … Continued…

First Pride March Squashed In Cuba

Things are loco in Cuba! First the Catholic Church came out against the gay rights movement, which has largely been led by first daughter Mariela Castro. Now there are reports that police shut down today’s pride march, which would have been the nation’s first. The unofficial march, organized with Florida’s Unity Coalition, was not sanctioned by Cuba’s National Center for Sex Education, which is headed by Mariela Castro, the daughter of President Raul Castro.

Activist Mario Jose Delgado announced the cancellation of the march moments before it was to start Wednesday at a park in Havana. He said two organizers who were to deliver a set of demands to the Justice Ministry … Continued…
