Once the piñata of television news — everyone got a turn beating her, and she had to hang there and take it — she's quickly rebranded herself as respected journalist and, before that, got a reprieve from media critics bashing her when Keith Olbermann took some of the heat away. But as Couric exits the stage, temporarily, it's no longer Olbermann who's filling the void of short-lived attention spans by media critics. It is, actually, another woman. Her name is Rachel Maddow, and the industry freakin' loves her. |

» Maddow Tops King.
Lipstick or not, lesbian journalist Rachel Maddow's turned out to be a great addition to MSNBC's prime time line-up: "Last week the program was #2 in cable news in both the A25-54 demo and in Total Viewers at 9pmET, beating CNN's Larry King Live… In the two weeks since Maddow took over the 9pmET slot, the program's nine shows have averaged 556,000 demo viewers and 1.6M Total Viewers. Maddow's averages are more than double the final two weeks (eight shows) of Verdict with Dan Abrams (225,000 demo / 601,000 Total Viewers.)" [Media Bistro] |
» Popularity Contest…
"Rachel Maddow had a strong showing in her MSNBC debut Monday night, snaring 1.5 million viewers to beat CNN's "Larry King Live" at 9 p.m. - both in total viewers (by 1 million) and in adults 25-54 (483,000 for Maddow vs. 383,000 for King).'" [NY Post] |

And Tim Graham, like any other red-blooded American male, is fascinated by lesbians, most notably MSNBC's Rachel Maddow… |

» Power Trip?
Rumor has it that new MSNBC Rachel Maddow has been trying to throw her weight around by requesting staffers be sacked. The news channel's management reportedly denied her requests. [NY Post] |
» Words…
"Maddow's current look may or may not appeal to a straight male demographic, but she is by no means lacking in camera-friendliness. We need more representations of people that do not conform to traditional gender expressions on TV." - Oregonian journalist Alley Hector on rumors that MSNBC plans on de-dyking lesbian anchor Rachel Maddow. |
» Lipsticking It To The Lesbian?
"MSNBC loves the chatter of liberal pundit Rachel Maddow, but not her look. Maddow, who's getting her own show, is being subjected to a net work makeover. A source says an entire 'glam squad' has been hired for the openly gay Maddow, and she has been asked not to wear her Drew Carey-esque glasses again. There's even talk of 'putting her in a skirt.'" [NY Post] |
» (Bad) Words…
"…Our buddy Dan Abrams…he's been replaced by Rachel Maddow, or will be, in early September. He's losing his show to somebody with more testosterone than he has." - Right wing radio host Rush Limbaugh - who recently called Barack Obama a "little black man-child" - on lesbian journalist Rachel Maddow's ascension at MSNBC. Unofficially, though? On 09/08/08, a one Keith Olbermann will mark his nearly complete takeover of the network. Yes, Olbermann might as well hold Phil Griffin's title as MSNBC chief, since, according to knowledgeable sources and all outside appearances, he's making the calls. |

It's precious. |

World Rejoices!
The rock star lesbian journalist, whom we interviewed earlier this year, will soon be slipping into Dan Abrams' primetime: The moves, which were confirmed by MSNBC executives Tuesday, are expected to be finalized by Wednesday, with Mr. Abrams’s last program on Thursday. After MSNBC’s extensive coverage of the two political conventions during the next two weeks, Ms. Maddow will begin her program on Sept. 8. And it pleases us to no end! Maddow's our number one televised lesbian crush. As for Abrams, don't worry about him - he's going back to his general manager gig. |
» Moving Up?
New MSNBC president Phil Griffin definitely has big plans for sappho-journo Rachel Maddow: "At some point, I don’t know when, she should have a show. She’s on the short list. It’s a very short list. She’s at the top.” [NY Times via Soup Cans] |
