Northern Ireland politico Iris Robinson gained notoriety this year for repeatedly coming out against the gays, a "sick" group she thinks would benefit from reparative therapy.

Well, in a twist of ironic fate, Robinson's husband, N.I.'s First Minister, Peter Robinson and his office will be giving gay groups about £80,000 in grants this year:

It has further been revealed that money from the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) helped fund this year's Gay Pride parade in Belfast.

The ongoing OFMDFM allocations are part of a £230,000 package put in place under direct rule by then Secretary of State Peter Hain.

This scheme has continued under devolution, alongside rows over anti-gay comments by prominent DUP politicians — including MLA Iris Robinson, the First Minister's wife.

The £230,000 package is administered by the Coalition on Sexual Orientation (CoSO), an umbrella organisation for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender groups across the province.

Politics, strange bedfellows and all that.

We hear that Eric Hyett, the gay man who took his 2-year old son to Israel without getting the son's other father's approval, has been arrested. Coppers reportedly got him in Boston as he arrived back in the States. He's being held here in NYC. The son's back here, as well, and living with his other father, Joshua Glazer.

John Edwards is having a rough month.

There is still speculation that he is lying about not being the father of Rielle Hunter's baby, he was dis-invited to the current par-tay for the DNC in Denver this week, and now he can't even get a hold of his former friends and staffers to apologize.

The story plays out like Edward's staffers were the ones personally betrayed by the affair.

Gay people are mad at Out owner Paul Colichman for saying he won't endorse Barack Obama. Neal Boulton, who works for rival Genre, said, "By tearing up his check for Obama, he basically wrote one to McCain." Boulton doesn't really care, of course - he just wanted his name in an item about Barack Obama. [NY Post]

Remember when Donald Hitchcock and the Democratic National Committee failed to work out their differences over Hitchcock's discrimination lawsuit? Well, the DNC offered him $100,000 to drop the suit. He refused, obviously. [POQ]

Damn! Athletic officials at the University of Nebraska sure take their gay scandals seriously!

First they booted Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan from the wrestling team after it was revealed the boys had posed for a gay porn website. Now a reader points out that higher up have edited out NCAA champ Donahoe's entire existence!

Here's the image collection for the 06-07 season, but fails to include pictures of Donahoe winning that year's NCAA wrestling championship, evidence of which sort of exists in an archived version of the same collection.

Good thing we have the picture above, which we'll cherish forever!

Eric Hyett and Joshua Glazer will continue their custody battle here in the states. An Israeli judge ruled yesterday that the men and their child, Jedediah, must return to New York to hash out their custody battle. Hyett took Jebediah to Israel earlier this month, a move Glazer called "kidnapping." The Israelis, however, disagreed with that description, according to Hyett.

Yesterday we passed on Eric Hyett's take on the gay dad "kidnap" tale. You know, the story about how he took his son Jedediah to Israel without consulting estranged husband Joshua Glazer.

Well, now Glazer's lawyers are offering their own take on the matter, especially Hyett's claims that Glazer lied to an Israeli court.

Though he won't offer any new comments, Glazer representative Sam Ferrara had this to say:

Other than to confirm that the version of events presented to you by Mr Hyett is factually inaccurate and can be best borne out by the court documents, as well as assure you that the Israeli court did NOT make any determination based upon unsubstantiated allegations, we cannot comment further pending the upcoming hearings.

It is our sincere belief that our confidence in both the Israeli and New York/Federal authorities will bring about the correct result, as they have thus far.

I remind you that Mr Hyett fled United States jurisdiction without consent and in violation of court directives. He did so with advance planning and quite surreptitiously. These facts will be substantiated by the appropriate authorities in short order.

Hyett and Glazer face off in Israel tomorrow.

Someone needs to school Irish singer Brian McFadden!

The 27-year old appeared on a New Zealand radio show this week and, for some reason, the conversation turned to fashion, at which point McFadden boldly declared straight men shouldn't wear pink. That's a common enough argument, although a bit tired and trite. Good think McFadden grabbed our attention with his offensive explanation: "Saying pink is a form of red is the same as saying homosexual is a form of male." If we're not male, what's with this penis?

The gays aren't pleased, of course. Activist Robert Marshall remarked, "It's the sort of stuff that gets said every day in the schoolyard. A lot of young people are quite impressionable, and when they see celebrities saying stuff like that, they think it's OK to say it themselves."

Meanwhile, doesn't McFadden (center) look absolutely smashing mincing about at Sydney's Dolly Teen Choice Awards? Fabulous, darling!

Update: Well, look at that: Brian McFadden wearing pink. Gawd, what a homo!

Said Founder Now Supports Obama, However Impotently

The ManHunt/McCain Scandal takes a new turn this fine, sticky Saturday!

For those of you not paying attention, ManHunt co-founder Jonathan Crutchley came under fire this week for contributing the maximum donation to Republican presidential hopeful John McCain's campaign.

Incensed by the businessman's conservative connections, several ManHunt members canceled their subscriptions and, fearing more backlash, fellow co-founder Larry Basile asked Crutchley to step down as Chairman of the Board. Crutchley agreed..

Which brings us to today…

You know what's been missing from all the postmortems about the mainstream media not covering the John Edwards scandal? Some input from religious types - other than Bill O'Reilly!

Generally, the devout frown on the cheating-on-your-wife thing, and especially the cheating-on-your-ill-wife thing. And the Catholics, who spend much of their time warning followers about spending eternity in hell, are quick to point out sins. Including those made by the media at large.

Hope you've got your holy water in a bottle with a squirt spout top!

[Booted wrestler Paul Donahoe in sportier times...]
The two University of Nebraska students who posed for a gay porn site were booted from their wrestling team. It was revealed earlier this week that Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan had appeared on FratMenTV.com, which put them in hot water with the athletics department - and the NCAA.

So, now they're out and the school's athletics department released the following statement about the boys, who have both been fined for alcohol-related offenses:

The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the matter. We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals.

I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans.

Taking a look at the NSFW gallery, we're sure many of the fans are less embarrassed and more enticed. That sucks for Donahoe and Jordan, though…
