Sex and the City
Rue On Obama, Boring Sex

Rue McClanahan’s still going strong. The seventy-two year old has been working steadily since 1970, when she made a brief appearance on the soap opera Another World, then it was on to Mama’s Family and Maude and, of course, The Golden Girls.

Now, seventy-two years young, McClanahan’s lending her talents to the Logo-produced dysfunctional family miniseries Sordid Lives, based on Del Shores’ novel of the same name. Ahead of the show’s July 23rd debut, McClanahan sat down with The New York Blade and proved she’s just as opinionated as ever: Today, she can’t say enough about Barack Obama.

“This is the damnedest election I’ve ever lived through and Obama is the most amazing candidate I’ve ever bumped into,” McClanahan said. “The man has unshakable integrity. He’s the nearest thing to Lincoln we’ve seen.”

One comparison you won’t find McClanahan endorsing is The Golden Girls being hailed as the original Sex and the City.

“‘The Golden Girls’ has infinitely more substance,” McClanahan says. “I never enjoyed the characters on Sex and the City, and I could never watch it for more than a few minutes.” Me-ow!

Meanwhile, we’ve seen the first two episodes of Sordid Lives and it’s definitely worth a watch, even if just for McClanahan. There’s a promo after that there jump…

Rupert Rips On “Whiny” Americans

Hey, fellow Americans! Guess what?! Holier-than-thou actor and British homosexual Rupert Everett doesn’t like us!

Why? Because apparently we Yanks don’t stand up and fight for what’s right. Oh, and we all talk like Carrie Bradshaw.

Sex Honcho Blasts Mag’s Criticism

We’re not sure if you’ve heard, but a little movie called Sex and The City had its premiere this week.

While scads of hags and their fags are sooooo excited about the flick, you may recall that Time Out New York came out against the big screen adaptation of the HBO series. And gay writer/director Michael Patrick King’s not pleased. He tells HX: I was disappointed in that. That was unnecessary. It’s just hurtful, but I feel it’s more of an attack on Entertainment Weekly and New York magazine than it is on my girls. We’ve been gone for four years—there’s a reason to open our mouths and say things. Why is … Continued…

SATC: The Drinking Game!

As we’re sure you all know, ’tis the eve of the Sex and the City: The Movie premiere and people are flipping the fuck out; dropping everything for the opportunity to be the first on the cul-de-sac to see if Samantha really dies like all the papers say. (We kid, we kid!)

Well, not us. How are we, and everyone like us, supposed to get excited about a movie portraying the lives of characters we would actively avoid were they real people?

With booze, of course!

Mario’s Marines

Sex and The City made it’s New York premiere last night and our cohorts over at Mollygood have about a billion pictures, but not this one of Mario Cantone playing with some sailors.

Adorable!

They’re Here…

The Sex And The City gals stepped out in London today to premiere their new movie.

Yes, you read that right: a film based around New York City came out in England first. That sort of stings a bit. And we think this geographical diss has our colleague Whitney Little a bit bitter: “As expected, Sarah Jessica Parker stole the spotlight — much to the other stars’ dismay — with a ridiculous bird on top of her head.” We, meanwhile, think the hat’s fab!

More pictures over at Mollygood.

Decisions, Decisions…

The kids at The Advocate sent us over their article on Kim Cattrall, whose Sex and The City movie soon debuts. While Cattrall’s all well and good, the depth of the piece is - well, minimal. That’s why we suggest you read what Martha Plimpton had to say to journo Brandon Voss. She’s always been one of our favorites and has loads to say about playing gay and just being generally fabulous.

Inspiration.

Red-headed lesbian Cynthia Nixon accepted a Point Foundation role model award earlier this week and told the crowd, including her Sex and The City co-stars, that having other gays around can be as important as any action: “When you’re a young gay person, you yearn for nothing so much as the presence of other gay people - most especially, an older generation of gay people who can encourage and inspire you.” You ain’t gray yet, lady! Nixon On Lesbian Action

Homo-journo John Polly had his gay dreams come true last week when he interviewed the gals from Sex and The City. In addition to chronicling the lady’s apparel, delving into why gays loved the long-running show and getting some scoops on the upcoming movie, Polly got actress Cynthia Nixon to open up about her lesbian love: It’s funny, when I announced and said, “Yes I’m dating a woman,” it freaked people out a lot. I think people have a hard time separating us from our characters. So people were like, “Miranda is GAY!???” And there were all these crazy things I would read in the paper, like “…but Miranda kissed a girl and … Continued…

Robert Buckley Shining Light In ‘Jungle’

Last night we braved the Lipstick Jungle, Candace Bushnell’s attempt to cash in on the Sex and The City cow. We have to admit we weren’t very impressed, nor could we stay focussed, for one thought kept popping up: “Where’s the fourth girl?”

Thank proverbial God, then, for the undeniably gorgeous Robert Buckley. That smile! Those eyebrows! That “I’ll fuck you sideways” smirk. We’re totally sprung!

So, does this mean we’ll be tuning in on the weekly? Maybe, but just to see his sex scenes with Kim Raver, who no longer looks as skeletal as she did on 24, thankfully.

Jason Lewis’ Ass May Be Best Park Of ‘SATC’ Movie

We may be breaking homo rank, but we’re not that excited about the Sex and The City movie. Television shows should stay in their realm, except for Melrose Place - that should be a movie.

Regardless of whether or not you’re excited for Sarah Jessica Parker’s big screen adventure, we can all agree that Jason Lewisass deserves some more screen time.

Sarah Jessica Parker Forever

“We all wanted to do a movie but I think that time has passed. There was a script, there were sets, there were costumes, there was a crew, and that’s all gone now. The sets are all broken down or sold or in a dumpster or, I don’t know, on eBay. It’d be hard to buy it back. All the shoes, we have. We all have our shoes and they can have them back.”

Sarah Jessica Parker on the demise of the Sex And The City movie. Doesn’t it break your heart? The movie was was scrapped because Kim Cattrall dropped out to pursue career diversification, … Continued…

Cattrall + Sir Elton = The Gayest Show Ever

Kim Cattrall, welcome back home to gay TV! The Sex And The City star will appear in Him and Us, a semi-autobiographical TV show about Sir Elton John’s life:

“Him and Us,” from Touchstone TV, centers on a gay British rock star (Anthony Stewart Head) and his relationship with his longtime manager, Freddie (Cattrall).

The role of Freddie originally was written for a male but is being reworked for Cattrall.

“Having a great comic actress like Kim is so exciting,” said the project’s executive producer, Elton John. “I’m a huge fan of hers.”

Cattrall, who won a Golden Globe for her role on HBO’s “Sex and the City,” most recently co-starred in the feature … Continued…
