It’s happening, folks. The world is turning more gay by the minute and we’ve got the numbers to prove it.
According to the latest national survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more Americans are identifying as bisexual than ever before. Not only that, but more straight guys are admitting to having had gay sex.
Related: More And More Straight Guys Are Giving Each Other “Bro-Jobs”
Researchers interviewed more than 9,000 men and women ages 18 to 44 years between 2011 and 2013. Respondents were asked about the types of sexual experiences they’ve had, whether they are attracted to the same or opposite sex and how they label their sexual orientations.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Here’s what they learned: 1.9 percent of men said they were homosexual, which is on par with the CDC’s last survey conducted between 2006-2010. Meanwhile, 2 percent of men said they identified as bisexual, up from 1.2 percent in the last survey.
And this is where it gets really interesting. Because 6.2 percent of men said they had engaged in either oral or anal sex with another guy.
Related: Survey Finds More And More Straight Guys Are Going Gay (And Liking It)
Let’s grab our calculators and do a little basic math here…
If 1.9 percent of men said they were gay and 2 percent said they were bisexual, but 6.2 percent said they had engaged in same-sex sexual activity, that means 2.3 percent of men engaging in same-sex sexual activity are straight. Or at least straight-identifying. Or maybe bi-curious?
“You do expect some differences,” Casey E. Copen, the lead author of the study, said. “For some people … they may or may not have had the experiences they’re contemplating, [especially] if they’re younger.”
Our next question is, obviously, where do we find these men?

I have not read the study yet (it’s on my desk), but on the face of it, your comment is nonsensical. Statistical significance applies to correlational studies, where you correlate one variable with another. For example, if you were trying to answer the question, “Do gay-identifying men have more sex?” There is no correlation, as far as I can see. This seems like a simple survey. What you can question is sample’s margin or error or sampling bias, but statistical significance is not applicable.

@Emery Biggar: In our business (I do sexual/AIDS research, among other things), we take the CDC’s lead and use “Men who have SEX with Men” (MSM) instead of “gay” for epidemiological research. That’s because straight men who have sex for money or survival (i.e. prison) are at the same risk for disease as someone who is gay. In other words, we differentiate between the physical act (sex) and emotional aspect (same-sex attraction).
Of note, this is practical distinction based on facts, and not some Post-Modernist semantic game which claims sexuality is a cultural construct, etc. Ugh.

Let’s not grab anything, because the math is wrong. It means that 2.3% of all men in the survey consider themselves straight but have still engaged in same-sex activity. Going to the actual survey, the terminology was *ever.” Few people would use as few as one same sex act to classify a person as bi or gay, and no one claims that gay people who have had opposite sex experiences must be bi or straight. The survey tells us that roughly one third of all men who have had same sex relationships self-identify as straight.
Even more telling? The article fails to note that three times as many women (17.4) in the survey had had same sex contact, yet only 1.3% and 5.5% percent of the women self-identified as gay and bisexual. So roughly two thirds of all women who have had same-sex relationships self-identify as straight. So where’s the headline about how shocking and dishonest women are?
In other words, the article is playing into the old sterotypes that lesbian sex is not “real” sex and that man on man sex is so contaminating that you can’t try it, even once, even under unique circumstances, and not somehow turn gay. It’s not, and you can.

GAY PORN PORN PORN…
@Martin Shaw wrote: “If they have had sex with men, They are Bi not straight!”

No No No. Sex is a physical act while sexual orientation is purely emotional. That’s why the CDC uises the term, “Men who have Sex with Men” (MSM) instead of “gay” in most epidemiological research. It recognizes that many straight men have sex with men purely for money or survival (i.e. prison), with no emotional attachment. Some may even be disgusted or fearful, which are not emotional criteria for being gay!
As for the physical act, there are no anatomical or physiological differences between gay and straight men, as far as orgasms are concerned. So a straight man can have just as much PHYSICAL pleasure from fellatio by man or a woman. Likewise for topping anally. But the physical pleasure doesn’t make one gay. If it did, then all male masturbaters are gay since they are being stroked by a guy. In fact, that’s a classic scene from the British sitcome, Beautiful People, which I’ve uploaded on Youtube.
It’s well-recognized that many, if not most, performers in gay porn are straight. While I doubt that most performers are straight, this was claimed in the HBO series Pornocopis, episode “Same-Sex Sex.” I believe famed director ChiCHi LaRue backed up that number. Studios like Corbin Fisher and Sean Cody specialize in it. The reason is simple. Gay porn pays men A LOT more than straight porn. This was especially true in the 80’s to early 2000’s, when straight men in gay porn were a rarity. Straight men who were willing to swallow or bottom were especially rare. That’s no longer true. The willingness to bottom or swallow is almost a requirement now. As society becomes more accepting of homosexuality, expect even more straight men to do gay porn for some quick money.
For more info, watch Pornocopia: Same-Sex Sex, which I’ll post on Youtube. There’s a fascinating scene of some butch Latino doing a gay scene while his girlfriend watches. She then critiques him and offers advice. Bel Ami also has a documentary showing how their straight actors prep for a scene (butt plugs all day long, including lunch breaks, to keep loose). MTV’s Real Life series has also had two episodes on the topic, although it was expectedly sexploitative. I uploaded the first episode but it was removed for copyright violation. Finally, gay porn studio, Broke Straight Boys, has a Youtube channel. YOu can judge for yourself if those boys are really straight.
Finally … no, I’m no porn addict. I was an academic porn archivist as an undergrad, and then did my own research as a grad student, so this is all academic! Or do I just “doth protest too much”? LOL And believe it or not (no one does), I’m straight … and to get back on topic, I might have considered applying to Sean Cody or Corbin Fisher to pay for school but if I wasn’t so ugly….

What is “gay” sex? I don’t understand the concept. I thought “gay” was an orientation, not an activity.
Admittedly, there are certain sexual activities that male homosexuals probably engage in more than others, but plenty of people engage in sexual activities that do not directly mirror their self-identified orientation.
I bet a plurality or majority of men who identify as strictly gay have had some sexual contact with a female.

@Bryguyf69: For the sake of equality, I should add…
[Many] Straight men have almost been known to enjoy watching women have sex with women. This was commonly known as lesbian porn or lesbian scenes. But in the 1990’s, lesbians complained, saying that those women weren’t lesbians, and they didn’t depict lesbian sex accurately. A few companies then hired lesbian directors and actors to make actual lesbian porn, preferring to call the straight productions, woman-on-woman porn. Generally speaking, lesbian porn actors were less feminine, there was often more body hair, and the sex was often “rougher.” As far as I can tell, the genre was not a hit with straight men. I’m not sure if enough lesbians made it financially viable.
Bryguyf69
The 1.9% fits in well with all modern studies on sexuality, albeit on the low end. That’s why I cringe whenever I hear gays use the mythical 10% figure. In fact, when I was an undergrad, I used to annoy organizations that had “10%” in their name by giving an unsolicited lecture. The 10% is a misquoting of Kinsey’s results, which itself was based on flawed methodology.
As for this blog, readers shouldn’t get too excited. While I have not yet read the survey, based on this blog, homosexual experiences would include rape, hazing, sexual slavery, prepubescent experimentation, etc. None of them would designate one gay, especially if the act wasn’t consensual.

@Bryguyf69: I would argue that statistical significance is ALWAYS relevant.
The final sample size (that is, people who were asked to participate and who did) for this study was 9,175; broken down that was 5,010 women and 4,165 men. From that number (4,165) we have to exclude the 4.9% of men who identified as gay (1.9%), bisexual (2%), or declined to report (1%) … that eliminates another 204 participants.
So we’re left with a 3,961 participants by which we are supposed to draw a conclusion related to a broader trend? Jimmy is right… the numbers just aren’t statistically significant enough to have any meaning. They are certainly interesting to read about but there is nothing there that anyone could objectively look through and draw any meaningful conclusion.
Their sample size being representative of a larger whole becomes even more problematic when you look at their racial breakdown.

The posts suggest that opinions on this survey range all over the place! So, with that in mind, I will add my opinion: I don’t believe that sexuality has been studied enough, to draw conclusions such that appear in this article.(BTW I agree with the poster who differentiate between sex and emotional attraction. A str8 Horney guy will let a guy give him a bj, if available, and not feel he is a fag! Again it’s attraction! But this is a very small sample so it may not be representative enough to be considered valid. IMHO, both sexes have X&Y and I think its a matter of degree to which sex it directs us. Until more definite studies are made on this subject, I will continue to enjoy my lifestyle and if some str8 dude wants to play ‘house’ with me, I will put him on hold until I ask my SO if it’s o.k. Oh please. People of all different orientations have said they were one thing or the other at one point. I said I was straight, I said I was bi, and then finally concluded I was gay. Some “straights” might be gay or some “gays” might be bi or some “bi” might just boring-ass straight people.
The undeniable truth is that this is the CDC, not some sociological experiment. They don’t care about attitude towards sexuality and we shouldn’t reference this as evidence of anything other than CDC research.

So what. Sex is sex. It all achieves the same goal (so long as all parties are consenting obvsly). Is this supposed to be about patting ourselves on the back and having a gigglefest over it? I always thought it was a problem in our society worth dismantling (and likely caused by outdated patriarchal beliefs) that there’s this whole straight guy “bro culture” which advocates shame and suppression of emotion over sexual acts which aren’t the norm, under the guise that abstaining from life’s many experiences and never shedding a single tear will make you a better man and/or Christian. And yet that’s all they are is acts, unless you’re actually gay or some other orientation who gains emotional fulfillment with your partner through it. Sexual orientation is defined by more than mere acts, as we all know. So can we all be a little more mature about this, and try not to screech out of some perceived victory? Because that would make us no better or more mature than the patriarchy so many LGBT+ people and women and yes even straight boys have suffered under.
Hussain-TheCanadian
I don’t think we should be focusing on labels too much; there are straight men who will have a gay sexual experience when they are young for multiple reasons, and when they grow into their 30s usually become purely straight.
I personally had sex with two straight men, and both are currently married with kids; I’m a good friend with one of them, this happened 10 years ago. I’m convinced that he’s really straight, and he simply wanted to try gay sex discreetly without judgement; our western society is still a harsh biatch – look at many of us here who are convinced that those men are Bi when in reality, not really.
Bryguyf69
@Kieru: Based on the blog, which again is all I’ve read, what variables are being correlated, and what is claimed correlation or hypothesis? What is the final p value (aka statistical significance)? I simply don’t see any of that in this blog. I don’t even see any claims for “a broader trend” except, “more straight guys are admitting to having had gay sex.” Yet the blog offer no historical data for longitudinal comparison. All of this may be in the survey or study itself but I don’t see any application of Statistical Significance here. Or am I missing something, since I didn’t get my caffeine fix today?

I am SO SICK AND TIRED of reports like this from some stupid survey that someone has done. If you ask 9000 people in Salt Lake City compared to 9000 people in New York City, the results are going to be so skewed, that no logical conclusions could possibly be taken from either one. It totally depends on where they are or who they are. 9000 people in a country of 320 MILLION is inconsequential. That’s like these surveys that are taken of 50 people and they consider that as a random cross sampling that represents some trend. That’s total bullshit. Get a sampling of 500,000 people spread out across the entire country and then you would have a decent study. The way that our FDA drug approval system works is just as stupid. A drug has to be “tested” on some random sampling of a few hundred people and based upon that, it is approved or trashed, which is ridiculous to base something that could save millions of people on how a few random people happened to react to it. If you ever actually READ the specifics of an FDA study or a CDC report, you’ll find that HENNY PENNY had a more reputable observation that the sky was falling than their scientific results produce.
Bryguyf69
@Pistolo: And although rare, some self-identified college-aged gays turn out to be straight. I believe there was a fascinating study (more of a collection of case reports) in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy a few years ago. Despite the title, it’s a very gay-friendly journal and the paper itself was unbiased and objective. Or was it the Journal of Sex Research? I can’t remember but will post the conclusions if I find it in my files.
As it becomes more acceptable — and even cool — to be gay, expect more mistaken or rushed self-identifications. One of my best friends fit into this group. In fact, his college experience sort of matched that comedy video above. He was in a VERY gay-friendly environment (AIDS research), but a few months of being gay convinced him that he wasn’t. Remember the whole “Lesbian chic” thing in the 90’s? Straight women were self-identifying as lesbian and bi in droves. Then only to return to a life of exclusive heterosexuality. It’ll be interesting to see if such a phenomenon will occur for men. In the 90’s to early 2000’s, many straight male college students did experiment stimulating their perineum and prostate with toys, sometimes alone and sometimes with a girlfriend.

Well, as someone who designs such studies and writes such reports, let me defend my profession.
1) It was gay/AIDS activists that demanded expedited approval in the 80’s, and that changed medical research forever. Speed means smaller sampling (do you know how hard it is to recruit?), and arguably less rigorous research.
2) You’re forgetting clinical trials also check for adverse events. Do you want dangerous meds to be used extensively if the benefits are low? Look at thalidomide for morning sickness, which resulted in many limbless babies in Europe. None happened here because our FDA was tougher and didn’t give approval.
3) You’re basically discarding the whole field of Statistics since Random Sampling is the foundation of Statistics. If not Random Sampling, what research model would you propose? How would you show efficacy and weed out harm?
4) Since most treatments are paid out of a limited pool (insurance, Medicaid, etc), how would you assure that a treatment is for the greatest public good? Do you think insurance should pay for a treatment that has shown only efficacy in 1 out of 1000 people? Wouldn’t that drain money from paying for more effective treatments for other conditions?
5) “9000 people in a country of 320 MILLION” is hardly inconsequential if your sampling was done right, i.e. is representative of the population. It’s all based on the belief that most people are not very different from other people within their demographics. Are you saying that belief is wrong? Hence you match and control for various criteria, depending on what you’re looking for. And no, your “320 million” number is usually irrelevant because most treatments are targeted. For example, if I’m doing Alzheimer’s research, I’m not going to include teenagers. if I’m doing prostate research, I’ll exclude women. Etc, etc.
5) Using your own words, how would you know that a treatment “could save millions” if not extrapolating from a smaller size? You may argue that n=9000 doesn’t provide enough Power, but it’s a moot point unless you give me some specifics.
6) As for 500,000, good luck. I can’t remember any experimental study with any sample close to that. The only studies to amass samples >100,000 were longitudinal or retrospective studies where we look back on historical data, usually of deceased people. For example, how does height affect Alzheimer’s? Then you can look at hundreds and thousands of medical charts and look for correlations. And again, let’s not forget that treatments are usually targeted. Do you REALLY think you can find 500,000 people with a particular disease — who are willing to submit to the restrictions and inconvenience of medical research? Don’t forget that your diet and lifestyle is often constrained, i.e. you may not able to eat certain foods or use certain medications for months. And several of my studies involved multiple blood draws and even a spinal tap. Let me know your secret for recruitment! How about money as an incentive? Nope, didn’t work for us … especially the spinal taps. And just where would you find the money for 500,000 people — not only to entice patients, but to pay for procedures, supplies and staff? Don’t forget that there are hundreds of studies trying to cure hundreds of diseases. What’s your funding source?
The FDA isn’t as ridiculous as you claim once you learn the facts of clinical research and face the reality of funding.
Bryguyf69
@Brian: No, many surveys are anonymous and confidential so any wives or heterosexual partners would never know. While self-identification has its flaws, most surveys also have a sexual history component to confirm the self-identification. Furthermore, if not self-identification, how would you identify gays? By stereotypical features like a lisp or limp wrist? Or an interest in showtunes? Physiological methods like pupil dilation (the pupils widen with arousal), penile plesthymography (measuring penile girth, aka erections, with strain gauges), monitoring vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, etc) and brain scans are simply not practical on a large scale.
Until we find some verified specific anatomical marker for sexual orientation (i.e. the “gay gene,” INAH-3 aka the “gay hypothalamus,” or even finger length ratios [Blanchard]), there is simply no better method.
As for the reason, such surveys are often used for marketing (by LGBTs) and epidemiology and prevention. One of my former projects looked for ways to target HIV prevention for gays, based on age and race. Such data is crucial.

I sometimes think men who have sex with other men sometimes label themselves as bicurious or bi just don’t want to admit to their emotional and sexual attraction to other men. Sometimes it seems the “bi” only applies to the sex part…as if they avoid the emotional with men. Are they avoiding any emotional relationships with guys? Hey, it’s tough being gay, even today! Well, I’m not saying that’s true, just an observation.
The Kinsey Report indicated we as humans are much more fluid, and somewhere on a sliding scale of sexuality. But ultimately, our sexual orientation and sexual relationships are our business.
Brian
@Loyd Hawkins: But “bisexual” is such as misleading word because it suggests that sexual attraction is equally distributed between the sexes.
Bryguyf69
@Brian: On a similar note, it’s why one dimensional scales like The Kinsey Scale is really not used anymore. One problem, for example, is that it can easily be used to prove that “Reparative” “Conversion” Therapy works. More useful are multi-dimensional scales like the Klein Grid, which uses amplitude (or level of attraction) along one axis. Related is Kinsey’s results, which a lot of people mistakenly assume is a Bell Curve, where the peak is the middle (meaning most people are true bisexuals, equally attracted to males and females). It isn’t. The curve is actually bi-modal (two major peaks) with vastly more heterosexuals (around Kinsey 0-1) and a smaller gay peak (Kinsey 5-6). True bisexuals are very few.

The above has to be one of the most ridiculous statement ever made. The lack of reasoning is just incredible.
Using than nonsensical approach, then the vast majority of the planet is gay.
Self pleasuring does not equate receiving pleasure from another person.
And yes, to derive sexual pleasure from another person of the same sex requires some sexual attraction to that sex.
The CDC survey deals with SELF IDENTIFICATION. Many men who have sex with men do not identify as Gay. The fact remains however that they have same sex attraction.
Bryguyf69
@dave lopes wrote: “to derive sexual pleasure from another person of the same sex requires some sexual attraction to that sex.”

WRONG. If you want to make your own definition of “sexual pleasure,” go right ahead. But in academia, we’re simply referring PHYSICAL pleasure (with or without climaxing), although no one denies that emotions would enhance it. Your requirement of an emotional component is as bad as religious conservatives claiming that sex is less fulfilling without love. If you believe that, try comparing the stale but loving married couple of 50 years vs most one night stands. Based on solid research, most longtime loving couples do not achieve the same sexual, yet loveless, pleasure of a one night stand. So no, the PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL components of sex are distinct. And sex therapist use that fact to their advantage.
Read carefully and THINK. You didn’t disagree with my point, and actually confirmed it. I completely agree that that “the vast majority of the planet is [NOT] gay” even though the majority masturbate. And that’s precisely because physical action does not equal emotional attraction — which was my point. This is basic Human Sexuality 101. I’ve taught it. Call your local university and ask someone specializing in Human Sexuality if you don’t believe me.
Sex, and the onset of orgasm, is a physical and mechanical act, especially in men. In fact, you can induce orgasms and ejaculation in comatose patients using electric rectal probes. We do so to harvest the sperm of dying patients for artificial insemination in surviving partners. Are you telling me comatose patients experience emotional pleasure, and have a sexual preference for either gender? What part of the brain shows that, Einstein?
So no, you don’t need to be attracted to your partner to achieve orgasm. Ask any male prostitute, whether gay or straight. Ask any gay man forced into a shame marriage. As any sex therapist can tell you, the mind can alter reality through fantasies to achieve orgasm — and this includes changing the partner’s gender. But this fantasizing does NOT change the person’s sexual orientation.
Furthermore, your simplistic argument ignores something that women have complained about for decades — the need to fake pleasure. Are you claiming that a male bottom can’t fake pleasure? I’ve worked with many prostitutes and both male and female sex workers frequently fake it. Indeed, many male sex workers prefer to bottom not because of pleasure, but because there is no refractory/recovery period so they do another trick just minutes later. Tops generally have to ejaculate — and have some level of interest to get erect. Bottoms can be straight or emotionally asexual and still “perform.” Before you mouth off, why don’t you do some research on sex workers and see if an emotional bond is necessary? Ask them directly. You can find some on Twitter and Facebook.
You ended with, “The fact remains however that they have same sex attraction.” So you declaring it as “fact” is enough to make it a fact? Seriously? Nowhere did you present any data, example, or even semblance of familiarity on the topic. If you want to live in your own sexual paradigm, go ahead. I prefer to use what the CDC and most other health/medical groups acknowledge — that MSM are not identical to gays/bis. And you can have same-sex sex daily and still not be gay. Indeed, “MSM” has been used for over two decades. If you want to discuss this further, first do some research and educate yourself.

down low. so much shame. so much lying to themselves.
sexual orientation is about sexual attraction not emotional attraction.

Not so surprising to me.

@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: Yes. They are not straight or gay. They are bisexual. Bisexual is not a scary word.

@Bryguyf69: The above post was directed at you.

@Bryguyf69: The big problem with the sexuality scales is that they rely on responses based on choice. Because male-male sexuality is so heavily stigmatized, the choices made by respondents are filtered through the stigma. Thus, it is impossible to get an accurate picture of the strength and prevalence of male-male sexuality in American society.
What we do know is that the responses will always be an under-representation of the true picture. So long as the stigma exists, male-male sexuality will always be much smaller in the figures of surveys than in the real world.

Winter winds chilled the men to the bone. …#bundyeroticfanfic.

@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: Then you’d be wrong, according to my professors and textbooks. As @Jovan E. Comeaux says above, sexuality is a state of mind, not a sex act. Two different things. So yes, you can be totally gay and have sex with women, and be totally straight and have sex with men. Maybe you need to read some modern sources for your info.

Why is it so hard for people to understand? There’s a difference between sexual activity and sexual identity. Just like a gay guy having sex with a chick doesn’t make him straight, sex with a guy doesn’t make a straight guy gay or even bisexual. The fact is that human sexuality is not static and rather fluid; just like girls can go have sex with women in college and come out the other end to get married and have babies without being lesbians, so can men.
Brian
Labels like “gay” and “straight” tend to be used mainly by gay-identifying guys. Gay-identifying guys love these labels because they can be used to identify willing sexual partners.
Men have ravenous sexual appetites. Because our society stigmatizes male-male erotic interactions, the labels serve as kind of a radar.
Ryan Andrew
Now is this a 1 time experiment study or are these str8 men having multiple romps with other men? If it’s more than once then the str8 label is null and void. So many questions…
oddchild1
@Bryguyf69: What people proclaiming these guys are gay don’t understand is that by rejecting, questioning, and dismissing the sexual identities of these straight men; they are giving Christians and anti-gay bigots the right to reject, question, and dismiss the sexual identities of all gay people.
Sluggo2007
“Our next question is, obviously, where do we find these men?” They’re everywhere you look. I’ve never had a problem finding them.

Well why not, guys look just so gorgeous these days, buffed bodies, perfect skin whilst more and more women are becoming obese. Sex with men is just so easy compared to women who are often ”high maintenance”. The easy access to on-line porn which heaps of straight men look at, I’m sure gives them ideas ”oh I’d like to try that”, specially when looking at it gives them an erection.

On the one hand, I’m always slightly alarmed for the mental health of the unhinged gay zealots who claim everyone is gay or bi on the scantiest of “evidence”(which seems to amount to the guy is hot and famous)
On the other hand, I never get this “experimentation” get-out clause…where is this desire originating from? I’ve never had the urge to eat booty and never will because it is entirely outside the compass of my sexual comprehension or comfort level.
Ditto heterosexual men engaging in situational (voluntarily elected) homosexuality….FOH! ONLY IF YOU DON’T HAVE HANDS! Don’t these people have porn mags, posters, underwear sections of catalogues, IMAGINATIONS?
CivicMinded
The article doesn’t state at what age these men had their same sex experience. If it occurred as a teen it would just be experimentation. In order for this study to be valid it must state that the men had these experiences after the age of 21.

If you drool when you see a man’s dick, you’re gay!
If you don’t drool, you just haven’t tasted one…..yet!
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
@cutemikey: I can’t have sex with a woman to save my life. And, that’s fine if you believe I’m wrong, because you’re not going to change my mind. These men are straight or gay, they are bisexual if they have sex and relations with members of both sexes.
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
@oddchild1: You take issue with labeling them gay or bisexual, but have no issue labeling them straight. I love gay men who fetishize “straight” males. I love them.
How many gay men here who claim these guys are straight are addicted to gay for pay porn? I know I’m not going to get an honest answer but I can bet that type of porn is the porn of choice for most here.
gary69mike
OMG… Duh! You’ve got to remember, men are horny all the time and given the option to have sex with anyone they’ll do it. I can remember the rumors back when in was in high school about guy on the football team hooking up… and they were the biggest gay bashers around.

@Bryguyf69: An interesting read. thanks for commenting.

@Bryguyf69:
Your problem is common to many recently “schooled” folks.
You keep repeating what you have learn in academia on the still researched topic of human sexuality.
What is lacking in your screams is any thoughtful perusal of real life experience.
Let me put it in simple terms for you. If something/someone gets your dick hard, you are responding to something in that person/thing/situation that arouses your sexual desires.
That is BASIC common sense.
Academia and schooling introduces one to ideas, theories, studies etc.
It must be followed however with one using one’s thinking and reasoning powers and not simply repeating.
AHappyMom
@cutemikey: I agree. The sex act is distinct from the emotions. When I was trained in Social WOrk about 7 years ago, I learned the same model you were taught. And it has served me well working with runaways and prisoners. It’s the same model used by pretty much all researchers and experts, include gay ones. It’s too bad some people here are arrogant enough to think their own VERY LIMITED personal experience trumps a sampling of tens of thousands of people of different cultures throughout decades by researchers.
RyanMBecker
@dave lopes: “…BASIC common sense…”
LOL. Typical hillbilly argument from Appalachia! Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that to argue that gays are unnatural because no babies result. And they’re just as convinced as you. Yep, their personal biblical experience trumps science. Sorry, as an educated person, I’ll stick with science and statistics.
dave lopes
@Bryguyf69:
And you keep talking about people in a coma and people being raped.
We are talking about people acting of their own free will.
You might have been to school and learned how to memorize, but you are not a thinker.
gaym50ish
In some cultures it’s not considered “gay” sex as long you’re the top. It’s just “fucking.” And all men are so horny that at the right time and place they wouldn’t turn down the offer of a blowjob.
In fact, based on my own experience and some other studies, I would put the numbers even higher. It all depends on how you do the research.
For example, Another study by Edward O. Laumann in 1998 used two methods of getting answers — a standard interview method and one conducted anonymously via a computer. The difference in the answers was striking, with a 400 percent increase in males reporting homosexual activity (from 1.5 percent to 5.5 percent) when they were communicating only with a computer.
One behavior — anal sex with another male — increased by 800 percent when the computer was the sole interface with the interviewee. The greater the taboo, it seems, the less honest are the answers if the subject is sitting face-to-face with a pollster.
pscheck2
Since machoism(?) is the hallmark of a str8 person, he is unlikely to admit to same sex attraction or sex to an interviewer and, at most, will admit to an occasional interest in another guy. The one poster bears this out in that he cites interviews conducted via a computer and those conducted in person. BIG difference! I think it is becoming increasingly clear that sexuality is another form of 54 shades of sexuality!

I have been with many of these men in my life great sex but if you want a relationship run away honey.
RyanMBecker
@AHappyMom: Well-said. I’ve been out as gay since 14 but I believe sex acts are independent from sexual attraction. Amazing how some want to define labels for the entire human race, when there are already accepted definitions (at least in Western nations).
Most disappointing of all is that this arrogance also drives many homophobes. That their few experiences or images of gays is somehow more “real” than the data collected by researchers. Hypocrisy.
