Well there are swords, and two guys are sword fighting. There’s a metaphor there I’m sure. And back in the Roman day I think it was probably more accepted than it is now. But there’s none in the movie. Me and [director Kevin Macdonald] talked a lot before we started filming: There is no love story in the movie, but it’s a relationship movie for sure. … I think Jamie had a lot of fun having me as a slave. I don’t think I took advantage of it like I should have when he was my slave. But Jamie, yeah — he abused me. So maybe there was some frustration coming out a little bit here and there. … Jamie and I have a bromance. We’ve been having sex for a few years now. [… It’s] going fantastic.

I’m going to pretend he wasn’t kidding.
Derek
Love this.
Craig
So instead of casting actual people of color, we have another screenplay from Hollywood that features white men playing people of Mediterranean descent? And Channing Tatum’s completely stupid comments about the “Roman days” of sexuality only prove what a dumbass he is.
Rick Gold
@Craig: Would you ACTUALLY go to a Channing Tatum movie and expect an accurate depiction of Roman history?
The first question begs a second, larger question: do you ACTUALLY expect Hollywood to produce ANYTHING in a historically accurate manner?
Your comment suggests you do and that makes YOU the dumbass.
That is all.
Marcus
@Michael:
In all honesty, since we’re talking about Channing Tatum here, there is a possibility he wasn’t kidding.
But let’s move on…

There are reviews that say the homosexual undertone is obvious in the movie.

Looks like little Billy Elliott is growing up nicely.

Oh, please, there is nothing homoerotic about it. Besides, I don’t like the word “homoerotic”. It’s used to divide our eroticism away from the mainstream, and makes us smaller. Note how breeders never use the word “homoerotic” to describe lesbians despite lesbianism being a homosexual act. Double standards, for sure.
This fake homoerotic nonsense is put out by studio publicity departments to try to get us gays to see a tanking movie. Don’t fall for it.
Chris
@Craig: You do know gay marriage was legal and practiced in ancient Rome right?
It was only after Christianity became the sole religion that things became bad for gays in the empire.
Josh
Well…I guess I AM going to see The Eagle after all.
afrolito
@Craig: When did Romans become people of color? I’m sure that would be news to them, then and now.
Craig
@Chris: The only thing I am disputing is Tatum’s inept comments about Roman sexuality. If he’s playing a figure from that time period then he could at least be more knowledgeable and articulate about the history of the times back then. “Probably more accepted than it is now” is just such a lame thing to say. The answer is yes, it WAS accepted and flourished back then, since sexual attitudes were completely different back then compared to today.
Shannon
GUYS…….stop this BS!! he like all male celebs know that is you want to create buzz…say you are “into” gay sex or gay men cause YOU idiots come a runnin’ saying how hot they are etc…and THEY laugh all the way to the bank!
Baxter
@Craig: 1) The Romans were white. They looked a lot like modern Italians.
2) The Romans had a complicated relationship with homosexuality. Having sex with a slave of your gender was fine. Having sex with another citizen of your gender was usually not. Gay marriage was not accepted. Flaunting your same sex relationship was disgraceful . Topping was OK, but bottoming was not.
Craig
@Baxter: Those are all minor differences that don’t weaken what I said.
jason
Shannon,
LOL. Good point.
Note how all these Hollywood male celebrities say they are for gay rights but they never actually do it. It’s all talk, no action.
Even when given opportunities to play a gay role in a movie, they knock it back for reasons that are homophobic. “Career killer” is often a word that is whispered between a Hollywood actor and his sleazy agent.
The best thing that we in the GLBT community can do is to boycott each and every one of them. Don’t give them our money. Tell the actors to fuck off and tell their agents to fuck off too.

@jason: And who in their right mind, pray tell, would take the advice of a person who thinks barebacking is just fine, and hiv doesn’t cause aids? Rave on. oh wise one.
kayla
@jason: I don’t really have anything to say about this story, just really have to ask Jason, why are you such a negative person? I have read many of your posts and more often than not, you have something negative to say. Are you such an unhappy human being that nothing makes you laugh or happy? And secondly, why do you hate women so much? I really would like to know what happened to make you such a downer.
Oprah
I think he is hot.And i have always thought he was charmingly gay. My dear hot Channing.
