Shooting down rumors she’s dating 50 Cent, E!’s Chelsea Handler tweets, “Everyone, calm down. I met with mr. Cent about a potential project. There’s nothing to report yet, ill let you know if there is.” Ah! So she’s not getting into bed with the rapper as original reports claimed; she’s just getting into a metaphorical bed with him. Or at least thinking about it! So instead of physical pleasure with 50 Cent, Handler is considering financial pleasure. Which almost makes her relationship with the homophobe … worse? Well it at least makes me roll my eyes at Chelsea’s video for bullied queer youth.
I sort of have this general philosophy: If you take a grand stand against one thing (say, gay kids getting bullied), you do not get into business with people who engage in it. Don’t go telling young girls not to become hookers and then throw a dinner party for Elliot Spitzer.

Get off your grandstanding high horse Queerty. It’s none of your business who she dates or does business with. I love how you tried to hop all over 50 for his cunnilingus comment and spin it into something “homophobic”, and how it backfired with a number of people inadvertently taking UP for 50 (despite not wanting to.) Instigating drama where there is none just makes him a martyr for the overall public to side with against the uptight.

I’m going to have to agree with queerty on this. It’s hypocritical to say i love the gays and you have to be strong and such then turn around and get into bed literally or figuratively with someone who tweets about shooting up a gay wedding and that gays should hang themselves
Ian
I take Chelsea at her word and THANK her for being an ally who is a straight shooter in her comedy. I watch her almost every week and anyone who has seen her regularly on tv knows she’s a friend to multiple minorities!
Eddy
I have full confidence that Chelsea will have more of an impact on 50, given how much of a strong straight ally she is for us gays, than 50 on her.
I’m able to sit at Thanksgiving dinner with my family and even do business with some of my family, knowing full well that some are self admitted tea party supporters, religious zealots and Republicans who only get their news from Fox TV. They also know where I stand and sleep with and we learn to coexist and not get bogged down in “judging”.

typical fame whore…..no big surprise…
Chris
Is 50 really homophobic? Doesn’t he have a lesbian mum or something that he’s proud of?
Chris H
@Chris: Yes, 50 IS really homophobic. It doesn’t matter a single shit if his mom is a lesbian or not, and from what I’ve read, he’s definitely not proud of her; indifferent at best.
While some of his comments may have been blown up and/or taken out of context, on the whole he has been very, very, ignorant and discriminatory about the gay community.

“Don’t go telling young girls not to become hookers and then throw a dinner party for Elliot Spitzer.”
Lmao…(^_~)! Well said.
REVEMUPMAN
50 is far from homophobic, he is in a homophobic culture. He even admitted in his song “Growing up I was confused my mom kissing a girl”.
He would not mention this if he was homophobic. The culture he is surrounded by is homophobic don’t blame him personally for it. And this culture is slowly but surely changing on the female side with Nikki Minaj. Men on the other hand hold themselves back.
Chris H
@REVEMUPMAN: oh please that is such a cop out. That’s only absolving him of personal responsibility and giving him a free pass to be as much of an ass as he wants to be.
Many people come from terrible upbringings, it doesn’t give them a blank slate to discriminate against others. This is his personal opinion, his personal actions, not his culture or community’s.

A lot of these celebrities think they can utter a few gay-friendly words and, suddenly, they’re hip. Doesn’t work that way. Your true attitude to gay people is determined by your actions, not your words.
ewe
I am not going to even watch the video. That is the best way to send a message to celebrities. Especially B rate celebs like her. I think the reason she is saying this is to save her own skin. Take a guess if there are any dwarves who think highly of her either? She is exploitive and gross.
Hunter
There are reasons in my opinion at least in why you don’t mix business and your personal life into it, you need to separate the two, it might not be an easy concept to grasp when you are an editor on a website such as queerty writing about your self and your point of view as your work, but for the rest of us we can’t stop living just because someone says something that we disagree with, you can do business with people that disagree with what you believe, and that doesn’t mean you have to be buddy buddy with them and invite them to your birthday party.
D
@SageLinear: Seriously. Queerty is even more judgmental than usual today. If people stopped doing business with everyone who didn’t share their personal or political beliefs, nothing would get done. Stop acting so high and mighty, Queerty.

I agree she should be able to see who she wants and for why. If she can get through to 50 Cent on some level then it’s a small victory. A person shouldn’t have to be beholden to the straight OR gay media/communities in their everyday actions, only when they overstep the mark as a public figure and make comments which could lead to violence and prejudice against others. Chelsea has done none of this. Please get your high house in order, Q, as usual you attack the least deserved instead of going after the real hate mongers. The tone of this blog is getting mildly militant and it’s only a step away from becoming a clone of the anti-gay fundamentalism run by right-wing blogs out there. Sure there are serious aspects to consider and be seious about but stop pursuing EVERYONE as if they have to decide whose mast to nail their colours to.
Quit with the expectations on people. Just report the facts.
