China’s HIV Mag for Gays: Final Issue

Friend Exchange, the Chinese HIV-focused magazine distributed to some 15,000 gays, stamped its last edition with “Final Issue.”

The rag, which Chinese health officials actually praised on more than one occasion, is shuttering for the reasons most magazines shutter: financial hardship. Funding for Friend Exchange has been coming from the Ford Foundation, but the group is pulling out of China and moving to other Southeast Asian states because it’s too “wealthy” to warrant such aid, the state media agency Xinhua reports.
