Chris Armstrong is, at last, taking his arch nemesis to court. The gay University of Michigan student body president is seeking $25k from Andrew Shirvell, the since-ousted assistant state attorney general who set up a website (Armstrong Watch) dedicated to cyber-bullying Armstrong, staked out his movements on campus, and went on news programs defending his harassment of a young man for being gay. While Shirvell isn’t commenting just yet, I do hope this is cause for another Colbert appearance.

Andrew Shirvell always struck me as being a closeted ‘mo acting out in a “Methinks he doth protest too much” kind of way. Second, that was The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, not the Colbert Report.

Good for Armstrong, though I’m surprised it wasn’t for more. Shirvell certainly deserves having to pay something in damages for his harassment, even though I do feel a little sorry for him. If he isn’t just a full-blown mental case he strikes me as being quite a self-loathing closet case. Beeen there myself. Bad memories. Thank God I was never sunk to the depths he apparently has. At the very least I hope that he comes to terms with himself and has a better life – away from Armstrong.

According to the article he’s asking for “more than $25,000.” In many states youKre not required – sometimes you aren’t allowed – to put a dollar figure on damages in a tort suit. The $25,000 claim was made to get the case heard in the kind of court Armstrong’s lawyer wanted.
The chances of Mr. Shirvell being allowed to practice law after this case are nil.

this is exactly the kind of situation where a ready-to-mobilize online queer activist force would come in handy. how can we fuck with this guy? i’m so not interested in being one of those cowardly queers who bitches and moans but doesn’t do anything to change things. we need a queer fighting force that says “you fuck with one of us, you fuck with ALL of us.” would this asshole have been able to attack this kid for as long as he did if we had 25,000 queers sending him emails, calling his phone (cell, home, office), faxing him, and otherwise being a big gay pain in his ass? we need to stop being so pathetically passive and start kicking ass.
