Christian TV Youth Host Comes Out As Gay

southworth.JPG
Azariah Southworth’s a brave man.

After a year-and-a-half of hosting Christian youth show The Remix, Southworth came out as a real life homosexual. Honesty, he says, trumps any old paycheck:

This has been a long time coming. I’m in a place where I’m at peace with my faith, friends, family and more importantly myself. I know this will end my career in Christian television, but I must now live my life openly and honestly with everyone. This is my reason for doing this.

I know I will be cut off from many within the Christian community, and if so, then they didn’t get the point of the life of Christ. I believe by me living my life honestly and authentically now, I am able to be a better person and a better Christian. We all know there are so many other gay people in the Christian industry; they’re just all scared. I was scared, but now I’m no longer afraid.

We bet those “other gay people” are shitting their pants right now wondering whether their secrets will be slipped.

What do you think of this post?

I have a lot of respect for this guy.
I was in a similar position recently and it’s really rough to go through.

Good for him! I’m much happier to see a guy like this come out on his own rather than have his sexual orientation turned into a scandal.

This is what LIVING the Christian faith looks like; quite different from the us vs. them, bible beating, fake fundamentalists version of Christianity.

This guy rocks!

I think this is a wonderful turn of events for him. He makes us in the gay community proud that we have him to speak up for us Christians who have been shunned for so long. Will the real Christians please stand up! I have no doubt that God will take care of him just as he has always done! Azariah you continue your walk in the faith you know God’s got your back!

Gerard says,

“I think he never read the BIBLE.”

Ah, you mean the part about not eating shellfish? (That would be shrimp, lobster, crab…?)

Or that part that says children who are disobedient to parents should be stoned to death?

Or maybe the part that says it is detestable to God if you wear mixed blend fabrics? (Most Christians would be hated by God then, since their 3 piece Sunday best are usually poly/cotton blend).

Oh, or maybe the part that says adulterers must be stoned to death?

All those examples, by the way, are found in the book of Leviticus – the same book you people use to condemn homosexuality. I did not cite references because I think YOU need to read your Bible.

Kudo’s to Azariah. You are a brave young man.

A great book for those who want to learn what the Bible actually says about homosexual relationships: The Children Are Free. Scholarly, short, honest.

Thanks to Azariah Southworth for having courage.
