American Idol Clay Aiken returns to Broadway’s Spamalot tonight. Aiken was previously seen as Sir Robin from Jan 18 to May 4 this year.
“Since leaving Spamalot in May, jokes have just not been funny. Food has lost its taste. The grass is no longer green – the sky no longer blue. And, babies won’t stop crying!! I’m so excited about coming back to the funniest show in the world!” Aiken said in a statement. The baby crying he may be referring to, is the child he had via artificial insemination this summer.

Is it possible to not utterly loathe someone who has been quoted saying something as vapid as that next to production picture which includes a rubber chicken? Because I’m usually a gentle soul who loves everyone, but now I just want to do shots out of his bleeding eye sockets.

…I distinctly remember reading an interview he gave after he’d been in the show for awhile where he expressed his loathe for the show. He better take work where he can get it as far as I’m concerned.

OMG Clay never said he ‘loathed’ Spamalot- where the heck did you ever read that???? (and if he did ‘loathe’ the role why would he accept the role again for 4 months?? Not for lack of work-mind you-tours could have been planned and executed-and Clay has many other projects planned) When he was first approached to do the show (a while ago)-he said he had never heard of Monty Python. Clay is incredible in Spamalot-I saw it this past spring and will be going again in Oct. He uses THREE different English accents for each of the roles he is portraying. Clay brings so much heart and soul to his roles.And mucho box office receipts-he also got the largest send-off when his last stint ended May 4th-the alley way at the stage door was so jammed with people that Clay had to appear ON THE ROOF to greet his fans. (I saw David Hyde Pierce 2 1/2 years ago in the same role and thought he was terrific until…I saw Clay’s performance-oh so much better!!) His voice is amazing. Mike Nichols is one smart man-he really knew what he was doing when he asked Clay do take on the role-most think BEFORE DHP was approached- (“No need to audition, Clay”—but Clay did audition and caused Mike to make this comment: “Clay Aiken is a master of character”.) Don’t knock anyone’s performance(s) until you have seen it yourself. (Clay is also going to be one of the roasters for Matt Lauer’s Friar Club Roast; his 2nd annual Golf Tournament for his very own BubelAiken Foundation is being held in Floria in Jan. Clay’s pretaped appearance on Paula Deen’s show will be on air next week. Clay is NOT lacking for ‘work’-in fact he works more than most of the AI alumni put together!!!)

just so you know clay does plan on going on tour next year to permote his album just like he promoted A Thousand Different Ways that was releasted September 19, 2006 but didn’t tour until
July 4, 2007 and if you want to know where i found this out from it was him and well if you don’t believe me you’ll see next year the end

Clay repeatedly said last year before and during his run in Spamalot that it was the stupidest play he had ever seen. He said it so much, I thought he’d get fired. I’ve never seen it, so what do I know? Maybe it is stupid.
This year the show was not sold out like last year. Closing night last year was also sold out. After this baby fiasco, I wouldn’t count on it this time.
His hair has already returned back to AI2, so he’s probably going to have to start over from scratch creating a new fanbase, that Jaymes Foster helped destroy. Most, if not all, of his deep pocketed NORMAL fans are gone. Personally, I can’t stand her and neither can a lot of the Claymates.
In many peoples opinion, she ruined his career as a bad producer picking lousy, sappy songs. Clay was capable of much better than that. Jaymes weaved her way into his personal life as an over the top Claymate, and undoubtedly persuaded him into having a baby with her so she can be in his life permanately.
She has ruined his life now that she is in it in an awkward position that she can’t be made to get out of now even if he wanted her out. Only the Over The Top, WACKO fans want Clay to marry her. He doesn’t need a 50 year old Bat in his life or for a wife. Clay is only 29. Jaymes should have remained a professional and slithered back out of his life after the two CD’s were finished.

Gayinsf, you may be thinking of a blind item in one of the NY gossip columns about someone who hated his time on Broadway so much he was trying to get out of his contract, that many people online assumed to be about Clay. Obviously it either wasn’t about Clay, or it was wrong.
Fat chance sounds like a Claymate jealous of his baby mama (you shouldn’t be, it’s not like they actually had sex). She’s also wrong about Clay saying repeatedly it was the stupidest play he had ever seen. In one or two interviews he said that the first time he saw it he thought it was stupid, but he was persuaded to go back and that time he got it and thought it was very funny. Those interviews were quoted ad nauseum by others, usually without the part about him going back again. Anyway, it’s Monty Python, it’s supposed to be stupid.
Spamalot is a very funny show, if you like that kind of humor, and the current cast should be great (I saw it with about half the current cast earlier this year and they just added Merle Dandridge, who is awesome, and gorgeous), so if you are in NY you should consider seeing it.

I think he got OK reviews when he did the show last time. Guess irony is tricky — Monty Python’s Flying Circus is very silly. Don’t think he said he hated Broadway, just that the show was (funny) stupid? Can’t find any of those interviews.

He’s perfect in Spamalot. Clay is quite similar to David Hyde Pierce, his predecessor.
Clay, like many before him, is in his natural element.
I’m also certain that Clay has few money worries unlike the rest of us and the stock market. We wish we had his talent and charisma. The man is adored.

I am referring to all the comments online about the rummor and baby’s birth in The Hollywood Gossip in my comment. There are a lot of people out there who really did not like Jaymes Foster before they knew anything about a baby. Many fans were/are still very disappointed in Clay.
It is true that since Jaymes Foster took over as Clay’s Executive Producer, his career has been going downhill in record sales. As for “babymama” I’m saying she’s an old, over-the-top fan who pushed her way into Clay’s life for the sole purpose of being just that. Just like the other old hags that follow Clay Aiken. She just had the “connection” of her brother David Foster to get close enough to him to get the job done.
