Cleve Jones Won't Be Bringing a Glock to the National Equality March

You could see the tears in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's eyes when this week she responded to a reporter's question about the current hateful political climate, and mentioned (without name) Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone as an example of what this sort of thing can lead to. What's that? Someone mentioned Milk's name? Enter National Equality March leader Cleve Jones, who popped up last night to remind everyone that words like "kill," and bringing guns to shouting events, don't belong in the conversation.

Religion lead to the killing of Harvey Milk with Anita Bryant's Christian Crusade and Dan White was a Roman Catholic. His district was described by The New York Times as "a largely white, middle-class section that is hostile to the growing homosexual community of San Francisco. As a supervisor, Mr. White made it clear that he saw himself as the board's defender of the home, the family and religious life against homosexuals, pot smokers and cynics."

Apparently, because of his religion he believed homosexuality was WRONG. Religion does that.

@Brian: You are mistaken sir. There is absolutely no historical basis which would indicate that religion is responsible for the discrimination, persecution, or indeed wholesale slaughter of enitre ethnic groups or communities of people.

I repeat: none.

Whatever HiredGoons is smokin' can you send some my way? Where did Brian say entire ethnic groups? Has this guy ever heard of the Crusades or the alternate torture and burning of Catholics and Protestants in the 16 & 17th centuries? Even the Pope apologized for the Spanish Inquisition. And we haven't even started on mere discrimination yet. Yeesh

Hey Hired Goons;;;; Have you ever read a history book???? In the area of 95%; nearly all of the wars on this earth have been precipitated by some religion, or a religious cause has been used as the need for the war.

I wouldn't bring a Glock either; I'd bring a Mossberg 500 Persuader just to remind homophobes that the second amendment applies to ALL Americans.

Haha, Cleve bringing a gun to the March? It would have been helpful if he was at least bringing people to the March. Last count less than 10,000 were attending. That's embarrassing to LGBTQ and testament to the idea of "Marches" and self-appointed historical-background-figure-turned-leader Cleve Jones.

This Cleve Jone's "Charade" (March) was poorly conceived, poorly planned, poorly marketed and will be poorly attended.

@HiredGoons: " There is absolutely no historical basis which would indicate that religion is responsible for the discrimination, persecution, or indeed wholesale slaughter of enitre ethnic groups or communities of people."

Oh, really? You might want to read the Bible (Numbers 31), Einstein. This is Moses after finding on that his people had slaughtered "only" all the adult males but saved the women and children: "Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

That's right, God's chosen people slaughtered all the men, women and male children, but saved the girls for sex slaves. But it's OK, because God was on their side.
