If you’re an elected official using your seat of power to (allegedly) solicit campaign bribes in exchange for favors, you should probably has as few skeletons in your closet as possible, because your scam is gonna be found out. But Carl Kruger, the New York state senator who just turned himself into the FBI to face corruption charges, didn’t learn that lesson. Which is why the man who voted against same-sex marriage has been exposed for using his boyfriend — the Manhattan gynecologist Michael Turano — to allegedly launder the cash Kruger received. You know, the boyfriend Kruger was never supposed to have, because he was playing a hetero.
Turano is among the men arrested in the FBI’s investigation into NY lawmakers making off like bandits.
Kruger’s constant companion, Turano, is accused of using bribe money he deposited in two shell companies for Kruger to pay the lease on a Bentley luxury sedan, credit-card bills and the mortgage on the garish, multimillion-dollar Mill Basin home where the two men for years have shacked up with Turano’s mom and brother, authorities and neighbors said. “Sen. Kruger had a close and intimate relationship with the entire Turano family, which includes one of the defendants, Michael Turano, along with his mother and brother,” US Attorney Preet Bharara told reporters yesterday. Neither of the other two Turanos has been accused of any wrongdoing.
A press release from Bharara’s office noted, “[Kruger] spent his free time with the Turanos, shared holidays with them, went shopping for them, and managed the affairs of their residence. “Kruger was closest with Michael Turano. The two men were in nearly daily contact, Kruger picked Turano up from work, and people even called Kruger’s cellphone in order to reach Turano,” Bharara noted. A source close to the investigation told The Post that Kruger — who voted against a state gay-marriage bill last year — was particularly “intimate” with Michael Turano.
It was at the Mill Basin mansion neighbors allege Kruger lived, and not at this registered address in Brooklyn.
Let the courts have zero leniency on your wretched ass, Kruger.
How about we take this to the next level?

Scum! And to think that there are people who are against outing public officials who work tirelessly to take our rights away. These vermin are the worst and they deserve everything that they get!
gregger
He needs to go to jail for a long long time, after a long long trial filled with public ridicule.
He also needs to pay a fine double the amount that was laundered, the cost of his investigation, the cost of his prosecution, and anything else they can come up with.
Riker
With only a handful of votes (two or three, I think) still standing in the way of same-sex marriage in New York, this should make Governor Cuomo’s job much easier.
Shannon1981
This man needs to rot in jail for a long, long time. Voting against same sex marriage when you’re a queer yourself? Un fucking believable. Add all the other dirt in, and he should be easily put away for quite some time.
Francis
Hahahaha!
William
I actually feel sorry for the S.O.B; perhaps because it’s always been my greatest fear to be held up to public ridicule. Rather than trying to extract the pound of flesh, I’d rather see him come clean and use this opportunity to do some good for the gay community. Mostly, I think this story is just sad… sad for our community and sad for residents of New York State in general.
Jeff
Rock on! – great reporting QUEERTY

He’s already done good for the community. He was stupid, got caught and now his anti-gay marriage butt is kicked out and can’t harm us anymore.
Jim Hlavac
@Cam: You got that right!
There’s nothing more he can say in our favor. He’s a liar and a charlatan. He’s done his job — being the fool. I don’t care if a politician is closeted, but I’m miffed when they’re publicly anti-gay. There is no redemption for these types.
prohomo
@Jim Hlavac: Agreed. He’s the worst anti-gay foe. A gay man himself. Unbelievable greedy scum. No heart.
PerplexedStudent
What a shitty human being. I hope he enjoys prison.
scott ny'er
Wow. What a dirtbag.
Oprah
He looks ugly, and probably has AIDS.Good riddance.
Akula
Not thats not AIDS that you see its the effects of self-loathing thats the result of selling your soul to the bible thumpers and corporate hacks for a little bit of perceved power. He knows hes a piece of human garbage and now it shines through.

Why do Jews always pick a non-Jewish boyfriend ? Anyway, I go to a gym in Mill Basin. Some of the hottest straight (though I guess some are just “straight-appearing”) dudes you’d ever see from all the Brooklyn neighborhoods around there. Firemen, construction workers, mmm…
Vermont
This disgusting pig is my state senator, and I voted for him. I knew I disliked him a lot, but it was either him or a member of the “Conservative Party” on my ballot. I figured my vote would help dems keep their senate majority.
He disgusts me.

There are tons of homophobic homosexuals around. Gay people can be amongst the least trustworthy, least credible, and least nice people about.
Francis
Jason, the fact most homophobes are, at the very least, insecure in themselves and their identity and world view, and many times gay themselves(and studies show as many as 80-90% with same sex desires) is very true. With that said, I blame these people but who I blame the most are the true blue homophobes who create homophobic homosexuals, and create a cycle of self-loathing and hate. People like Carl Kruger are victims of themselves as much as anything else. There are a LOT of people in the gay community or who don’t identify as gay but have gay desires, who have been damaged by bigotry, and it’s not a good place to be and many times leads to things like this occurring. However, Carl is anti-gay because of the power it gives him, and most politicians are the same way, which makes them sick bastards.
TheRealAdam
@jason: True. And they act like their shit don’t stink when you call them on it.
LookingAround
Jason : Or they’re totally out about being gay but so vicious and bitter and generally murderous when it comes to heterosexuals or any other gay person who doesn’t go along with the “correct” gay positions like being automatically anti-Israel or hating Texas. As long as young homos are aware those types are all about, and learn to think independently of them, we should be alright.
jason
Francis, TheRealAdam and LookingAround,
I agree with all of you.
You only have to look at the infamous J Edgar Hoover. Hoover had a boyfriend and yet was one of the most viciously homophobic public officials in American history. He was a professional hater.
I think some of these gay guys project the hatred that they feel from society onto those who represent that which is hated within themselves.
Never ever underestimate the notion that some of the most homophobic people around are homosexuals themselves. Homophobia and homosexuality are perfectly capable of co-existing within one person.
Hue-Man
These stories are profoundly sad. If the reporting is correct, “Gay man acts against best interests of gays.” How many times has this story been repeated with excuses like “I had to vote anti-gay because people might think I was gay”? Meanwhile, the serial adulterer, Newt (as in close to reptile) Gingrich, is hailed as a presidential candidate! Can’t Bill Maher come up with a new rule: “If you’re a gay politician, come out of the closet”?
Jeffree
@jason:,@LookingAround:,@TheRealAdam:: I do think these closeted anti-gay legislators vote against equality for reasons you listed: plus they have that smug satisfaction of “sticking it to” those of us who are out and not self-hating.
They’re just like neighborhood bullies who wreck the xcommunity trampoline just so “you can’t play on it”!

How long does modern science and inquiry have to stand screaming into the wind on this type of shit? He is a type of paraphile, a guy who gets a hard on by creating a threatening situation for a human being. ANY human being. He can escalate the situation, meaning he can rape another then and there; ANY OTHER: men, women, children, knot holes in fences, grandma, fish from the aquarium, etc., As long as he is getting of on his essential erotic need to dominate a another being. The conflation of these types of pathologies with homsexuality AND/OR heterosexuality is ludicrous.
Thanks homophobes, keep muddying the waters of human progress of to “include” the monsters among us with gays and lesbians…This goes for the LGBT’s who apologize for this shit too. Think about it next time you hang with the “top leather daddies” who like to jack off on you while calling you a cum dumpster. Is there any doubt about unmoored sexuality in todays social climate? I hesitate to say yes, because of the craven BDSM psycho crowd among us LGBT’s, but at this point let ’em hang. Any replies, please tell me about your life of “tame raping” and how it’s part of your gay orientation. I welcome the confused, ex abuse victim, since experience doesn’t teach you. Something about reading it in black and white might.
Jeffree
@Adman: The differences between a legislator getting off on his power versus a S/M “scène”??
–The Senator’s power over “the other party” and that persons’s rights extends past the playtime in to the real world.
–The scêne is consensual, negotïated, & has a safety net (safeword).
That’s why I think the S/M analogy isn’t a s good as the neighborhood bully analogy, but yep, I’m biased!
LookingAround
All very true. Look at the gay “activists” like Andrew Belonsky, Pam Spaulding, Andy Humm, Andrew Towle, even Michelangelo Signorile to a great extent. They’re just haters, and generally try to go after the “enemies” (enemies in their own heads) in sneaky ways too. But with face-to-face conflicts they’ll hide under the bed.
adman
@Jeffree: Well, searching for an analogy is what I’m doing with this stuff lately, me and the partner have had an incident with some “acquaintances” who are supposed to be members of our LGBT community, but are just ummmm…crazy. So yeah that’s being honest, and you’re right about the bully thing, they invariably use the behavior to control others.
justiceontherocks
The loudest basher is usually the biggest queer.
Brian Miller
Wow, a politician who is a lying, hypocritical crook?!?
Those are so RARE!
Jeffree
@Adman: Sorry to hear about your “acquaintances.” I’ve sort of “spring cleaned” a couple of those recently because they seem to turn every last little thing that happens to them into a “major incident.” Instead of holding their ground, fighting back, or trying to turn things around, they just use those events as an excuse to be nasty to other people {not always me, by the way} and spread the misery!
Maybe their mirror is broken? Ha!
I hate that vicious cycle, and don’t need that kind of drama in my life.
adman
@Jeffree: “Instead of holding their ground, fighting back, or trying to turn things around, they just use those events as an excuse to be nasty to other people {not always me, by the way} and spread the misery!”
Very true. Have you ever noticed when you encounter one, nothing around them can ever be built. Nothing gets accomplished, by anyone paralyzed in the laser beam, ever! It’s like the entire wind goes out of the social scene, people run home and slam the door, and it is frustrating as hell.
“hate that vicious cycle, and don’t need that kind of drama in my life.”
I used to be bad at confrontations, I get angry. What a cliche and it makes me easy to manipulate as well. My better half is patient as the hills and proactive as hell, so I’ve learned a ton from him, thank dog. You have to adapt forever. that’s life. Might as well enjoy it!

we need to go after the institution more than the individual. There are so many corrupt bureaucracies.
John
Yet ANOTHER queer Quisling? *face-palm*

Not once does this item mention the “(D)” that is usually displayed adjacent to Kruger’s name. So often when a republican politician does anything inappropriate they and the act are associated with all republicans and used to characterize the whole party. Whenever a democrat steps out of line party affiliation fails to come up. Curious.
