Instead of Romney and Ryan, Republicans could be half-heartedly cheering for Romney and Rice. Condoleeza Rice, the former Secretary of State under George W. Bush, was considered for the coveted[?] post as Mitt Romney’s VP but lost out thanks to her stubbornness over a few key issues the Republican candidate occasionally firmly stands by.
A source tells Radar Online:
“Condi was fully vetted to become Mitt Romney’s running mate and turned over financial records, including tax returns.
“Mitt thought she would add much needed foreign policy experience to the ticket, thinks she is incredibly bright and he knew she would help with the all important female vote and African American support.
“However, Mitt’s advisers talked him out of it because Condi is pro-choice and she isn’t willing to change her position on the controversial issue. Condi also supports same sex civil unions which again, put her at odds with Romney. Mitt had a hard time getting the ultra conservative support of the GOP and was told if he picked Condi that would immediately be lost and so he ultimately picked Congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate.”
Condi won’t experience any sleepless night over losing out to the anti-abortion, anti-civil union Paul Ryan since she’s rumored to be running for governor of California. What do you think, dear readers, would Condoleeza Rice have been a better choice than Paul Ryan? Would a soiled dishrag have been a better choice than Paul Ryan? Would Rush Limbaugh‘s diabetes medication have been a better choice than Paul Ryan?
Miss Manners
She would have been fun to watch in a debate against Joe Biden. The fact the she wouldn’t change her principles to fit in with the party platform in order to get the nomination shows that she truly has character.
zaneymcbanes
It’s people like Condaleezza Rice that the Republicans need to put their faith in if they want to have legitimate political discourse. Even though Ms. Rice and I disagree on several issues, I know that her views come from a place of logic and not from a place of vitriol or contrarianism. As a hardcore democrat and a Californian, I must admit that I’d be tempted to vote for Ms. Rice if she ran for governor (unless she was running against someone like Gavin Newsom).
Spike
How convenient. Had her stance on abortion and same sex marriage been in line with Romney, then he would have had to come up with a reason not to pick her other then the fact that she is black.
Please do your homework people, as it pertains to the mormon church and black people. Hell would freeze over before a mormon presidential candidate would choose a black VP.
NormdePlume
Well, there is that. But don’t forget about Ms. Bean, the person who owns a home with her……….
John Doe
Even if she is pro-civil unions (a huge thing for a major player in the GOP), her foreign policy experience seems to indicate that she was a pretty fierce advocate for Bush when it came to his foreign policy. A little too “pro-war” for me. Then again, this world is getting rather pro-war without any help from us. Half of the violence in the Middle East would go away if the US (and allies) would be less of a military authority in the world. The other half of the violence would continue on, something that would still create major problems for that region and for western countries.
Niall
She’s pro-civil union? Interesting, I actually didn’t know that. Props to her
hyhybt
She shouldn’t be in the VP slot. They should have put her at the top of the ticket.
Neo
@hyhybt: Push a republican whose willing to discuss issues and explain in a rational manner why she wishes to act on them and adapt according to reality.
She’ll never get picked while she is rational and willing to do what is best for America and the world. She’s also black, which excludes her completely anyway in the racist GOP.
Spike
@Niall: Pro-civil union . . . bless her heart. As if right after President Romney nominates the next Supreme Court judge and marriage equality is good as dead for the next 25 years, that republicans will immediately thereafter start working on legislation for civil unions. Yea right.
FStratford
I wish they made her sun for VP
I dont want her as governor of California! We beat back Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina because the governator messed the whole state up. She, however, would be a tough one. She actually has political (unelected) experience and has a Stanford pedigree which is looked upon with gusto in the Bay Area.
shle896
And here I thought she wasn’t asked to be his running mate because she’s, you know, brown! We all know how Mormon’s feel about brown people, plus she’s a lesbian on top of that.
Tad
I have always felt she was a progressive and brilliant woman. Now I believe it more than ever. Sadly, she still aligns herself with a party who is basically made up of white men with a platform of bigotry and intolerance. Shame on her for not having the guts to show her true colors.
InscrutableTed
Governor of California? Why would she want a job where her foreign policy expertise is irrelevant? Unless… unless… unless she intends for California to secede from the United States!
You heard it here first, folks.
hyhybt
@shle896: She is? When dif that happen, so to speak?
massprince
Ms. Rice should be democrat and would have complemented Obama
Rockery
Pro civil unions well that’s a start, that gets the most important part out of the way FIANANCES!

@shle896: You hit the nail on the head with BOTH points in your comment. It seems not too long ago the Mormon “belief” was a tribe had offended god and as punishment HE (you know who I am talking about) turned their skin dark, their lips and hips bigger (please, let’s not go any furhter regarding how tempting it is) and made their hair coarse. I kid you not. This WAS in the Book of Mormon. That is why I DO believe a black friend of mine who said that he and a white friend of his were on a ski trip back in the 1970’s in Provo, Utah and was asked by a very effeminate, young white gay kid if he had a tail. The guy said he was so shocked at the sincerity in the question being asked he actually pulled his pants down to show him he did not. He says that though the kid was cute he would not touch him in no way because he also thought what if this kid went home and said he had gotten raped, even though the kid would now be a candidate for Rupaul’s Drag Race had it been on television back in those days. They do have some weird beliefs but I say ALL religion……………anyway, moving on.
After the election back in 2008 the Washington Blade reported that Dr. Rice was number two on John McCain’s list for VP picks but was passed over because she had bought a house with a white woman near Stanford in California and the two had planned to live together in it. The woman she was to live with had no history of marriage and also no children. It is sad because Condi(even though I did get sick of how she would promote the policies of that ignoramus of a president she was Secretary of State for)is a smart woman who will not stand for bullshit.
There is a good PBS documentary titled “The Bush Wars” that is well worth Googling and watching. It showed just what WAS going on in the White House before and during the war. It was a total mess. None of the Bush people (Cheney, Rumsfield, Powell……) were talking to each other but she caught the most hell out of all of them because her underlings would not obey her orders. She wanted to have the guy in Iraq fired because he skipped right over her and went to Cheney and Rumsfeld instead of her. How’s that for suppporting the policies of your boss in public? She is smart but she is still a black woman in a white mans world. You can see for yourself and go figure.

@Niall: Pro civil union…aw, how sweet…a black woman who doesn’t believe in equality
“Inequality anywhere is inequality everywhere” MLK
Shanestud
I seem to remember reading that the never married Ms. Rice owned property with another female. She has never been romantically linked to any DC men. Are we missing something here …or is she so devoted to her career she was just too busy or never “found the right man” but managed to get on the same deed and share a house with another woman?

3pm: speech on how Obama admin attacks medical marijuana users; I’m glad Obama wants more funds to fight HIV.
4pm: speech on how Obama signed NDAA, bill to attack protestor’s rights, and wants to limit internet freedom; glad Obama supports marriage equality.
5pm: speech on how Obama’s team keeps up with NSA surveillance, Guantanamo, tax cuts for rich + social service cuts for poor; Republicans suck!
6pm: speech on how Obama declares he can kill anyone he wants and his dron attacks on kids; glad Obama supports marriage equality.

8:00pm Heard speech on how Obama ignores the rallying cry of Occupy and loves him some bailouts, generic Wal Street regulation, and campaign contributions; not to self – donate to Obama ASAP!
8:30pm Got harassed by protestor who was whining about Jill Stein, Rocky Anderson and Gary Johnson being pro-equality, pro-poor people, and pro civil liberties; asked cop to pepper spray them and thankfully they beat and arrested them.
9:00 Looking forward to going back to airport so I can get fingered by TSA. 4 more years!

Let’s see Condi run against Hillary in 2016! It would be refreshing to have two candidates that wouldn’t be a pick between the lesser of two evils!
NateOcean
I’m sure the fact that Condi is black and a woman had nothing to do with it.
Mormons hate Jews, gays, Blacks, Catholics, women, and Latinos.
If, in fact, Condi is a lesbian, she’d be like the trifecta-from-hell.
However, the fact that she was a completely incompetent Secretary of State and a warmonger would make her an ideal match for the Republicans.
hf2hvit
@jeff4justice: What the hell was that? Get the oxygen tank…we have another Clint Eastwood here
jeff4justice
@hf2hvit: Aw did LGBT media not tell you about Obama’s bad things. Oh never mind. Democrat and Republican zombies will balance each other out and the endless war, poverty and erosion of civil liberties will continue. Go back to sleep.

Condi is obviously a smart woman. But boy, she was a dreadful National Security Adviser and an even-worse Secretary of State. She needs to stay out of public life and enjoy being a professor.
ScaryRussianHeather
This is nonsense. They always fully vet MANY people. It means nothing. Rice may have been vetted but she was a back bencher just like all the other names who submitted their data. Which, would be used for other things like cabinet nominations etc, anyway. This is just a silly “leak” meant to undermine the brilliant choice of Paul Ryan. You can believe if there were any way to do it, he would have been Palinized by now. But no, he’s getting great polling date even from seniors!
The most important thing to the majority of the country right now is the BUDGET. Paul Ryan is a smart, strong, walking encyclopedia about every single facet of the money, bills, and history of spending/issues in Congress. Add to that, he is a killer speaker, charismatic, likable and can deliver a line like nobody else.
Regardless of spending 14 years in Congress he presents a youthful vigorous persona. He represents a DEMOCRAT district and has won with over 60% of the vote for 14 years. This doesn’t happen by coincidence. He’s the only member of Congress I half expect to see crowd surfing at rallies.
The LAST thing Romney needed was someone to distract the voters with a linkage to Bush and the wars, and another type of “she’s not qualified to be president” narrative.
Paul Ryan was the ONLY choice for running mate, evidenced by the schizophrenic dueling Liberal claims “the Veep choice doesn’t matter at all” versus “OMG Ryan is awful, he hates women, the poor, and pushes granny off the cliff in her wheelchair”. Which is it? LMAO.
Put Paul Ryan on TV next to ANY Democrat – Biden, Wasserman-Schultz – Schumer -Pelosi- ANYBODY – and it’s no contest if we’re being honest. Of course that doesn’t include people with single issue voting mentalities like immigration, and it remains to be seen if he can have any impact on the election at all.
tdx3fan
@jeff4justice: Why are you so obsessed with your Obama hatred. I looked up every single point you made, and I absolutely disagree on ALL of them.
You seem not to grasp the concept that this is a two party system. Every vote cast for a third party candidate that could have been cast for Obama is the exact same as a vote for Romney. If you plan on voting third party you might as well as go ahead and vote for Romney, and if you think that Romney would do a better job on ANYTHING than Obama then you must like the idea of war in Iran and the removal of any/all gay rights.
tdx3fan
@hf2hvit: I was unaware that Clint Eastwood was a conspiracy theory nut who only believes what talking points he is fed without doing any research at all.
tdx3fan
1pm: heard speech on how many died in Obama’s lie-based wars; glad DAT is gone.
–I think you mean DADT and the war that Obama “started” was not based on as many lies as the one he ended. At the end of the day, the vast majority of the people in Afghanistan still want YOU dead and would do anything to kill YOU, so if you can’t believe that then I have no idea what you should believe.
2pm: speech on how Obama let Monsanto take over FDA; glad Obama supports marriage equality.
–There is a HUGE organic food business in this country. Many of the organic food regulations are absolutely ridiculous. My father is a farmer. He uses non-harmful pesticides and feeds his cattle grain (so that they are MORE healthy not less) and that disqualifies his product as organic although we would gladly eat food from our own farm. Also, there are 7 billion people in this world, and the United States is (indirectly) feeding the vast majority of them through some sort of agricultural aide. To attempt to go from genetically modified foods to purely organic is attempting to allow half of the world population to STARVE. Think before you speak!
3pm: speech on how Obama admin attacks medical marijuana users; I’m glad Obama wants more funds to fight HIV.
–The vast majority of medical marijuana speak is absolute crap. The vast majority of people that use it “medically” are doing so when they have more viable alternatives without the whole addiction thing coming in to play. The problem with marijuana is that it gets addictive, but the more you smoke the less buzz you get from it which means you need to smoke anymore, and eventually you do not get any buzz at all. Its called drug tolerance, look it up!
4pm: speech on how Obama signed NDAA, bill to attack protestor’s rights, and wants to limit internet freedom; glad Obama supports marriage equality.
–So you think that Fred Phelps storming a military funeral is a GOOD thing? The truth is, the Secret Service has no clue what the intentions are of someone that enters their area of protection, and its better to arrest them then to shoot them. Also, you are so wrong about the internet…you could not be more wrong. Obama backs internet freedom fully as is stated by many reputable sources.
5pm: speech on how Obama’s team keeps up with NSA surveillance, Guantanamo, tax cuts for rich + social service cuts for poor; Republicans suck!
–Obama had little choice to keep Guantanamo running. Would you rather he warehouse known terrorists suspects in your backyard? They can just build a prison in your neighborhood and keep them right there. Also, if someone is a suspected terrorist suspect they should be under surveillance, or would you rather we have a repeat of 9-11!?! Obama fought hard to remove the tax cuts for the rich. At the end of the day, he had little to do with the extension (that is a power of CONGRESS not the president). Obama cut Medicare funding that was creating a bubble in Medicare. The funds were not being used for actual recipients. Medicare was OVER funded, and Obama took the funds that were not needed and used them elsewhere. That is like blaming a kid that is not going to eat his cookie at lunch for giving it to another kid that has no cookie.
6pm: speech on how Obama declares he can kill anyone he wants and his dron attacks on kids; glad Obama supports marriage equality.
–Kids that were part of a family of known terrorist that were in a known terrorist hide out, you mean? I’m sorry, but with the amount of indoctrination these “children” are given they are not “young and innocent” at 15 years old. Hell, terrorists have been known to have young children walk up to military personnel with explosives strapped to their bodies and press the detonator. Drone attacks are a way to avoid the cost of American lives, and they should be utilized more often not less.
7pm: Got to take picture w/ 2party system apologists Bill Marher, Michael Moore, and Cornel West who’ve bitched about Obama the past 4 years but like good sheep will vote for him anyway.
–Bill Marher, Michael Moore and Coney West are two party system apologists… Funny, maybe they just realize how this system actually works. Apparently, you do not and that pisses you off. However, this will always be a two party system. It always has been for the last 200+ years, it will be for another 200+ years. No viable third party candidate has ever come close to winning office and none ever will. Understand the rules of the game and learn to play inside it. You do not get to make your own rules just because you want to.
8:00pm Heard speech on how Obama ignores the rallying cry of Occupy and loves him some bailouts, generic Wal Street regulation, and campaign contributions; not to self – donate to Obama ASAP!
–The bailouts that Obama is responsible for have ALL been repaid, and he saved the nation from another great depression. When Wall Street collapses so goes the nation. If the kids that were having orgies at Occupy Wall Street rallies would spend more time studying history and less time getting high they would understand that. They need to go find jobs if they are that bored that camping out in New York City parks seems like a good idea. If they can not find work although they have a college degree then they need to blame that on the colleges. No matter what your college tells you, a Philosophy major is a BAD IDEA!!
8:30pm Got harassed by protestor who was whining about Jill Stein, Rocky Anderson and Gary Johnson being pro-equality, pro-poor people, and pro civil liberties; asked cop to pepper spray them and thankfully they beat and arrested them.
–Obama has done more for equality than any sitting president. He provided healthcare to countless individuals (at great political cost) and he supports all civil liberties (the whole constitution) not just parts of it you want him to. That means, he supports gun ownership and freedom of religion which probably pisses you off. I know, its much easier to back a third party “candidate” that can pick and choose what they want to read in the constitution.
9:00 Looking forward to going back to airport so I can get fingered by TSA. 4 more years!
–Yes, pre 9/11 was a much better airport experience. Of course, pre 9/11 no one thought that terrorist would use box cutters to hijack FOUR planes and fly three into buildings (one crashed in a corn field or it would have most likely been flown into the White House). Since then, there have been two bombing attempts that have been foiled thanks to TSA agents. Having my genitals fondled by some hot guy in uniform because I’m suspected of having an underwear bomb seems a small price to pay for not exploding into a cloud of smoke 10,000 feet in the air.
–So, when its all said and done, you have done zero research and only believe what you were told by someone who is anti-Obama. You lack the ability to think through things rationally, and you really need to stop spreading your agenda when no one wants to hear it.
hyhybt
@tdx3fan: ON Guantanamo, at least, I agree: it shouldn’t exist. Either people are prisoners of war or they are criminals. Either way, there’s a system and process. But to just hold people forever on vague accusation, without going through the normal process of actually charging them with a crime, holding fair trials, etc, goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for and no matter how much people whine about security there’s no excuse for that.
