Conscious Objections.

Straights need to sympathize and empathize with gay couples, says Kenji Yoshino. In an effort to spur change, the journo says people should adhere to the Temporary Domestic Partnership Strategy, which suggests straights seek civil unions, domestic partnerships and the other “marriage” schemes available in their states. “The Temporary Domestic Partnership Strategy asks straights to cross over, in a limited way, from sympathy (pity for the plight of others) to empathy (direct experience of that plight). It seems plausible that if a straight couple experienced a temporary domestic partnership even briefly, they would have a more visceral sense of why gays need the right to marry.” [NY Times]

No. 1 · An Other Greek

I have dear friends that have chosen to do just that.

Honestly I am so touched by their sentiment. They are a beautiful couple and they “get it” and this is just another way that they live out their ethics…

These people are for real, which is another reason why I was disappointed at the cynicism that met Brad and Angelina when they made a similar announcement.

It never ceases to amaze me how good deeds are often derided/unappreciated by those cowardly self-serving cynics that “just couldn’t imagine” someone simply doing the right thing just because it’s the right thing to do…
