I think most people are very tolerant and have no problem at all if people are gay but, and I hate to say this in a way because I expect it’s going to cause controversy, but I think most parents would prefer their children not to be gay, knowing most parents want grandchildren if nothing else.”
— Tory Member of Parliament David Davies expressing his outrage over Prime Minister David Cameron’s “barking mad” plans for legalizing same-sex marriage via BBC Wales.

Gays can’t have children ?

@Phillip: No, didn’t you hear, gay people having equality is literally the worst thing that could ever happen in the history of our 6000 year old planet. Fire and brimstone raining from the sky, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria.
Also I had to double take because it is David Davies, not David Davis, I was going to bollock you for putting up the wrong picture, but more fool me.
He’s in the same group with cretins like Anne Widdecombe [speaking of this group of anti-gays, seek out the Intelligence Squared debate where Stephen Fry obliterates her on Youtube, it’s hilarious and accurately scathing in equal measure] who are forming a group to stop the extension of rights to people.
They consider us sub-human.

This blowhard is going nowhere. Every country where equal marriage is legal has its quota of irrational, illogical religious nutjobs. This is no different, expected actually. They know they’re losing the argument, hence the spurious claims and allusions. Its only those on the religious right who are doing this and thankfully, they are in the minority in the UK even though they are the loudest although they claim they are the majority. It just isn’t true. The same arguments were made when the Civil Partnerships legislation was approaching a vote. Same people, same worn out mantras tried and debunked. This is no different. Equal marriage is coming whether they like it or not. The more they rant about their nonsense, the more irrelevant they become. In fact they’re helping those on the fence to support us.

What an idiot comment! People can also choose to be childfree straight or gay and no parent can hold that over their head.
Little-Kiwi
Conservative Parents don’t want gay kids. Liberal parents merely want Happy Kids. 🙂

@chrisk: chrisk,I’m with you on
the idiocy of the MP’s comment.
However,I think that saying that people can choose to their
sexual orientations is wrong[against nature,if you will] and
plays into the worst homophobes’ hands. While one can choose
to act,or not to act on it,NO ONE CHOOSES her/his sexual orientation.
hyhybt
@Phillip: Of course we can. But you have to admit it’s less likely than with straight people.

He’s the MP for a lesbian friend of mine, who, no guesses, is outraged by this comment. Luckily my Conservative MP is voting in favour. It’s very much a minority view in the UK, with this homophobia confined to the most rabid far-right of the party.
