Among Grindr’s many uses, you can apparently now use the app to clean up your neighborhood. According to police, a guy in New York had “coded language that the undercover officer recognized as a possible advertisement for drugs.” So the police bought a few samples, and then promptly had him arrested.

That was followed by a raid that turned up some coke, some meth, various pipes and around four thousand dollars. Not a huge haul, but it’s probably for the best that there’s one fewer source of drugs out there, enticing gay men to screw up their lives.
There’s no word on exactly how this happened: were police monitoring Grindr? Or did they get a tip from someone? What does an undercover officer have to do to present as a passable drug-seeking hookup app user? How many other headless torsos on the site are actually run by police departments hoping to catch illicit substance dealers?
How about we take this to the next level?

Your takeaway from this little escapade may vary. Some may see it as evidence that the police state is always hovering, denying us privacy even in the most intimate of settings. Others may see it as a welcome step, protecting a population vulnerable to the temptations of addiction.
Either way, it’s a reminder that there are bad actors out there on Grindr, and you should always exercise care when meeting new people or telling them about yourself. Not everyone is as they seem, and not everyone is after friendship.

Boys when your talking online make sure you don’t say meth. Say you’re looking for Miss Turner Tickets or fun with Chissy. It’s guaranteed to fool the cops.

Police state? Denying privacy? It’s the internet, there is no privacy. But there’s tons of stupidity. My take away is that these fools deserve to get caught. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to spot their profiles and decode their painfully obvious “secret” terminology. They’re such easy targets for law enforcement that it’s laughable.
Malcolm Forest
@Stache: Alternatively, just don’t do drugs. They ruin your life and cost a hell a lot of money. Talking from personal experience 🙂
Paco
If you need to be loaded to have sex with other men, then you probably need a shrink more than you need the drugs. Just a thought.

@Stache: Guaranteed, huh? So you’ll pay the person’s bail and court costs if the cops aren’t fooled?
Stache
@1898: I was only using snark since were talking about “coded language”.
Stache
@Malcolm Forest: Well, as they say. Three ways to go with that shit. Quit, prison or death. I quit but not as fast as I should’ve. If only my foresight was as good as my hindsight.

I’m glad they’re doing this. Go after all the PNP and Party ads. The cops have turned a blind eye on this for too long.

All of the 3 letter federal/state/local government agencies(CIA,FBI,DEA,DIA, et al) always monitor ALL sites. Anyone who mentions drugs online beware-Big Brother IS watching and KNOWS everything YOU do online. And meth is a trashy, nasty, devastating, crappy drug. It’s an evil, wicked brew dealt by the Aryan Prison Gangs. Users ARE their bitches. Do it and ruin YOUR life. It’s made from car battery acid,Red Devil LYE,etc. I don’t respect ANYONE who uses it.And I stay away from them. One of my first questions: “Do you Pnp?”. If yes, I ignore/block ’em. I’ve known enough men hooked on 7/or whose lives were RUINED by meth. Several are DEAD. Not worth it.

This could be a good way to get locked up for a the weekend ! get some jail bait action and back out by Monday.

there’s such nasty, dismissive judgment of meth users/addicts. catty bitches who “ignore/block em” are part of the problem. obviously the drug is bad. we all know people who’ve been fucked up by it. the holier than thou bullshit makes it harder get out of the scene. it’s classic stigma.
addiction is an illness – a physical and mental illness. to treat the ill with disdain is perhaps more disgusting than what they put into the drug. it is possible to disapprove of and discourage use without being a self-centered, narcissistic prick about it, but meth addicts are easy targets for those who have to put others down to feel better about themselves…
