Corrigan, Lucas, Sagat: The Top Ten Gay Porn Newsmakers Of 2011 Revealed!

It’s the end of 2011 and Queerty is looking back at the biggest, hardest news and gossip to come out of the exciting world of gay porn. This year saw some pretty thrilling sexploits by Brent Corrigan (the comely twink in our feature image) Ryan Idol, Michael Lucas and many other erotic icons.

Did we miss a big one? Chime in below in the comments!

Porn actors from the all-male side of the street continued to make inroads into mainstream media in 2011. One of the bigger ones was Brent Corrigan, who this year appeared in two movies—the feature length time-twisty romance Judas Kiss and the short I Was a Teenage Werebear, part of the campy anthology horror flick Chillerama.

Brent’s wrapping up 2011 with a special New Year’s Eve show at Splash in New York. We’re wet just thinking about it.

Gallic skin star Francois Sagat cemented his position as an art-world muse this year with the release of  Sagat: The Documentary. And just a few months ago, he was honored with a master class and screenings of his art-house fare (Man at Baths and L.A. Zombie) at New York’s Museum of Arts and Design. “Sagat’s foray as a male actor in French cinema directly challenges the traditional role of the male, reads the program notes. “[He’s] a new model for a leading man.”

Don’t worry porn lovers, Sagat’s latest project takes him back to form: a starring role in the x-rated flick Incubus (link NSFW), for which he also served as costume designer and art director.

Legendary ’90s gay-porn star Ryan Idol‘s fortunes took a turn for the worse in 2011: In September he was found guilty of attempted murder, stemming from a 2009 incident when he beat his girlfriend with a toilet tank lid until it cracked. (Ouch!) And things had been going so well, too: In 2007 Idol (born Anthony Donais) appeared on Broadway in the revival of Terrance McNally’s bathhouse comedy, The Ritz.

Seems like he can’t stay away from toilet fixtures.

This year, we learned that Dustin Zito, a member of the cast of MTV’s The Real World: Las Vegas, had previously engaged in a bit of slap-and-tickle with other dudes on Fratmen.tv (NSFW) under the name “Spencer.”

There was a lot of back-and-forth in the media about whether Zito, his reps or MTV were trying to scrub the interwebs of his erotic work (especially anything anal) but Zito’s revelation to his Real World castmates formed a major plot point that reverberated throughout the season, into the blogosphere and beyond.

We can’t show you what Dustin/Spencer got down to on Fratmen, but we’ve got a SFW photo gallery celebrating his handsomeness.

We weren’t super-familiar with Brazilian porn star/rentboy Harry Louis until he blew up the blogosphere by appearing in a cozy photo with famed designer Marc Jacobs (himself no stranger to the company of ahem, made men).

Jacobs’ last beau, Lorenzo Martone, was Brazilian—leading gossip wags to think perhaps Louis and Jacobs were a serious item. But when Jacobs popped up in St. Barts with Martone, those rumors seemed to wash away with the tide.

Performer-mogul-pundit Michael Lucas continued to polarize in 2011, writing controversial op-eds for The Advocate and Huffington Post on such varied topics as straight-male sexuality and the aftermath of the Arab Spring. (He even dished to Queerty recently about the alleged affair between porn star Harry Louis and designer Marc Jacobs.)

But his biggest splash this year was in March, when his ardent pro-Israel stance led him to urge a boycott New York’s LGBT Center after the center had welcomed representatives of  Israeli Apartheid Week. Flexing his muscle worked, though—not only did the Center cancel the apartheid program, but it invited Lucas to give a talk.

Could it be that Lucas’ biggest organ is…his mouth?

Barebacking is still a hot topic in adult cinema: Popular porn site Sean Cody stoked the fires by unveiling its first condomless sex scene in December, following in the footsteps of Corbin Fisher, which officially went rubber-free in September.

Some say it’s irresponsible, others claim its the viewers’ responsibility to play safe, not the studios’.

George Michael made news this year for his serious bout with pneumonia. But before he took ill, the pop legend was seen frolicking on a balcony in Venice with porn star Isaac Mazar.

Maybe he’s been talking to Marc Jacobs?

Shawn Loftis was a substitute math teacher in Florida. But once upon a time he was gay-porn performer Collin O’Neal, star of such hardcore parody fare as Desperate Husbands and Humping Iron.

Much like educator/porn star Kevin Hogan, Loftis suffered the wrath of school administrators, who canned him when they found out.

Shame, too—with a teacher like him we might’ve finally gotten the hang of trigonometry.

If the name Ric Alonso doesn’t ring a bell, perhaps his porn-producer name, Jake Cruise, is more familiar. Alonso made mainstream headlines when it was revealed he and his longtime boyfriend were among the sponsors of the Miss Hollywood pageant—a preliminary to Miss California and Miss America—and were forced to resign.

Yes, because we can’t have people who make gay porn involved with an event in which women strut around practically naked. It’s practically un-American.

Honorable Mentions

* It’s revealed that pivotal scenes from The King’s Speech were shot in a studio used for gay porn. Jolly good show, we say!

*After rebels storm the home of Muammar Gaddafi‘s son, Al-Saadi, they find a gay-porn DVD among his belongings. Who has just one?

* Viral video star Chris “Leave Britney Alone!” Crocker announced he was going into porn with a debut film to be directed by Chi Chi LaRue.  Somehow we don’t think he’ll make his name as a power top.

* Jeremy Skott Snider, son of longtime The Bold and the Beautiful actress Katherine Kelly Lang turned to doing scenes on Sean Cody for his 15 minutes of fame. Funny thing is, the acting on SC is more believable.

* X-tube star Andrew Embiricos, a.k.a. the socialite grandson of Rita Hayworth and Aly Khan, committed suicide—or had an autoerotic asphyxiation accident—in early December.

* Porn muscleman Zeb Atlas also appeared on Showtimes’ reality show Gigilos to teach the boys what “gay for pay” means.

* Disgraced New York Congressman Anthony Weiner finds himself the subject of a porn parody. Well, with a name like that…

* Longtime faves Blu Kennedy and Matthew Rush bid the porn world farewell. Kennedy because he wanted to conquer new horizons; Rush because he found a boyfriend. What’s that saying about the course of true love?
