Introducing Queerty’s entertainment suggestions for the coming week. Watch for it each Friday.

MUSIC: It’s dueling American Idol divas —even far away from the studio audience, as Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez drop new wildly different singles. Mimi has not only discovered hashtags with her latest “#Beautiful,” she’s also found her fabled whistle register. The new single is a slow finger-snapper that has summer anthem written all over it. Listen to it here. And can we please give it up for former judge J.Lo’s new single “Live It Up?” It’s a sweaty, thumping threequel to her massively popular “On the Floor” and “Dance Again,” all collaborations with Pitbull. Listen to it below.

MOVIE: It’s faint praise to call The Great Gatsby the most impressive film version of the beloved novel about a doomed Jazz Age love affair. Purists will revolt but director Baz Luhrmann’s bombast (which includes an anachronistic soundtrack featuring Fergie and Beyonce) actually makes F. Scott Fitzgerald’s delicate prose pop onscreen, although it’s not a complete success. Leonardo DiCaprio (as the title character) has more onscreen chemistry with his real-life best friend Tobey Maguire (as his devoted neighbor Nick Carroway) than with Carey Mulligan (appropriately shallow, but rather wan as Daisy). But if you need another reason to see to shell out the extra $5 for 3D, the queer subtext behind Nick’s admiration for Gatsby has never been so pronounced. The film opens in theaters everywhere today.

MUSIC: If you haven’t seen the stunningly gruesome new video “The Next Day” from that “switch-hitting, bisexual, senior citizen” David Bowie, watch it here. But be on the lookout for new music from Vampire Weekend, featuring out member Rostram Bajmanglij. The band’s third album Modern Vampires of the City is out Tuesday and it’s  undoubtedly their most eclectic and accomplished yet. Watch the lyric video for their dreamy “Step” below.

MOVIE: If you think the cast of Gatsby is eye-popping, check out the photogenic actors in out director Quentin Lee’s new comedy-drama White Frog. Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr., Twilight‘s Booboo Stewart and Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey headline this tale about an Asperger’s syndrome-afflicted teen whose life is further challenged when his gay brother is killed. The film opens in limited release today. Watch the trailer below.
