Gay news magazine The Advocate will evolve to the internet-based world and go monthly for the new year. Said EIC Jon Barrett: "I don't think there is a need for a biweekly magazine anymore with the Web. We will have more room for bigger stories and we're going to get better writers." The staff must be thrilled. [BAR via Towleroad]

I liked The Advocate and back in the day it was one of just a handful of publications the community had, and I'm grateful they were around. But in recent years I've been able to get the same information from my local gay rag which is free.
Well the only way to survive as a monthly is with in depth reporting and investigate stories, neither of which has been the Advocate or any other "national" gay mags' strong points.
But I'm sure will still get fluffy "we support the gays" celebrity covers.
I'm cancelling my subscription immediately.
You pay for it? I just pick up a free copy of the many that don't sell at the Gay Center in the Village.
